An 18-year-old pilot had to make an emergency landing between Ocean City and Somers Point on Monday afternoon. The young man of the single-engine airplane was struggling with propulsion problems.

He landed the small plane safely on a motorway bridge between the two cities. According to reports, the floor was not damaged in any way. Although the bridge is heavily trafficked, the young pilot managed to find a gap and the following drivers recognized the problem and reacted accordingly. The man was a so-called banner pilot who pulled advertisements behind him. He threw it off beforehand for security reasons.

The pilot told the local media that he had no other choice because the engine had failed. Eyewitnesses described the emergency landing situation as "scary". The 18-year-old pilot managed to land the machine safely and road users reacted accordingly. In the past, emergency landings on public roads have repeatedly resulted in serious accidents, as motorists - and rightly so - were surprised by the sudden and unexpected landing and could not react quickly enough.
