There are jobs that nobody wants to do and there are some that are in great demand. Apparently the vacant executive chair at Air Malta is so desirable that more than 200 interested parties have submitted their applications. Economics Minister Silvio Schembri confirmed this on request.
The member of the government is overwhelmed by how many people have applied and sees this as a positive signal. The applications are now being checked and a decision should be made in the next few weeks. Since there are a lot of highly qualified applicants from all over the world, the selection process could actually take "a few weeks". According to reports, at least one airline manager from Austria should have applied for the job. There is no information about the identity.
Air Malta is looking for a new boss, because the "veteran" Clifford Chetcuti surprisingly resigned in August 2020. The manager has worked his way up from co-pilot to CEO since 1987. He has headed the carrier since September 1, 2018. He cited private reasons as the reason for his resignation. Chetcuti was not with Air Malta all the time, because he made a trip to Qatar Airways as Vice-President Flight Training for a few years.
