Basel-Mulhouse Airport had 2,6 million passengers in the previous year. In direct comparison with the value for 2019, 71 percent fewer travelers used the airport. The number of flight movements was reduced to 51.570 take-offs and landings. In the cargo area, Euro Airport recorded a 2,3 percent increase to 108.500 tons.

As a direct consequence of the pandemic-related travel restrictions, the months from April to June saw the sharpest drop in passenger traffic, at 97 percent. Air traffic picked up again in summer, especially in August, the month with the most passengers during the crisis, in which the airport welcomed 390 passengers, 000 percent fewer than in the previous year. In the traditionally weak month of November, this fell again drastically with a minus of 40 percent compared to the previous year.

In order to be able to withstand the crisis, EuroAirport will continue the strict spending controls in 2021. Due to the uncertain forecasts, the airport works with three scenarios with passenger numbers between 3 and 5 million. How quickly passenger traffic will recover depends on the speed of national vaccination campaigns, the resulting lower number of infections and the associated reduction in travel restrictions. Today, EuroAirport assumes that the passenger volume of 2019 will only be reached again in a few years.
