The Spanish low-cost airline Volotea claims to have achieved a comparatively extremely high occupancy rate of 90,7 percent last year. The carrier operated 2019 percent fewer flights compared to 49.
The company believes that its rapid focus on domestic flights has been the recipe for success. For example, 86 percent of the flights were carried out within the respective countries in which Volotea operates. According to a press release, 3,8 million passengers were carried.
“We are very proud of these numbers, very positive given the current context. Volotea's reliability and flexibility, as well as the ability to offer a brand new domestic network in record time, were crucial. These results, on top of the € 150 million syndicated loan signed in the summer, will help Volotea enter 2021 in a strong position to benefit from the expected pickup in short-haul leisure traffic in the spring / summer when the vaccination continues ”, says Volotea boss Carlos Muñoz.
The low-cost airline wants to expand again this year. To do this, five Airbus A320s are floated in, with the first unit has already been painted in Ostrava. More A319s are also expected to join the fleet. However, the Boeing 717 has since ended. Volotea was Europe's last operator of this model.
The Volotea numbers at a glance:
- Number of passengers: 3,8 million
- flights carried out: 30.600 (-49 percent)
- Load factor: 90,7 percent
- Number of routes: 293
