Elba: paradise with crystal clear sea water

The Italian island of Elba offers crystal-clear sea water, in which many, sometimes colorful, fish can be found. Many sandy bays are known for being very shallow and therefore ideal for holidays with small children. The island is located near Corsica (France) and Sardinia and is a very popular holiday destination. Although Elba has its own airport, which is located in Marina Di Campo, the range of flights is extremely limited. Due to the insolvencies of SkyWork and InterSky, there are no longer any non-stop flights from Germany. From Switzerland, Zimex Air flies from Bern-Belp on behalf of a tour operator and from Lugano the Czech Silver Air flies with Let 410. The majority of tourists therefore travel by ferries, which are offered from Piombino, for example. There is a high frequency of shipping traffic and the prices are quite moderate. Silver Air offers some subsidized connections from Milan-Linate, Pisa and Florence during the summer months. However, the frequencies are rather low and in the past the service has been repeatedly suspended at short notice and without much notice. The aircraft used are Let 410s with 16 seats and are Czech-made. If you decide to travel by air, Pisa is a suitable transfer point. However, it should be noted that Silver Air has neither interline nor codeshare agreements with other airlines. This means that any luggage must be picked up and checked in again. There is also no liability in the event of delays and the next flight may not be available until

48,48 euros is a “disproportionate expense” for Lauda

Should passengers get their money back for their ticket if their flight was cancelled? If the court argument of the Ryanair subsidiary Lauda were to be followed, no. The effort involved would be disproportionate. This is how the company argued in court in a case in which a customer whose flight was cancelled wanted his money back, which Lauda should have paid him back within seven days for legal reasons. As proof that processing the claim within the seven-day period would have been a "disproportionate effort", the lawyer commissioned by Lauda presented a few newspaper articles from Spain and a Wikipedia printout to the Saarbrücken District Court. It was also argued that the service center in Madrid was not sufficiently available due to the lockdown. This did not convince the court at all. Lauda was ordered to repay 48,48 euros plus interest and the legal costs. According to the news magazine "Der Spiegel", the parent company would have had to adapt its internal structure in order to be able to process the reimbursement claims within the statutory period. The claim for reimbursement would also not constitute a “disproportionate claim”, as the effort required for the review and reimbursement is kept within very narrow limits. Passengers and thus creditors have an increased interest in asserting smaller claims. Ryanair has not reacted adequately to the Covid-19 situation. “Der Spiegel” suspects a connection between the massive delays or even refusal of refunds by many airlines and the low number of new bookings. Customers therefore do not want to have to chase after their money if their flight is not carried out. The industry has massively lost confidence.

The armed forces are to receive 18 Leonardo AW196Ms

The Austrian Armed Forces will soon be getting replacements for the more than 50-year-old Alouette III helicopters. According to a report in the Kronen Zeitung, Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner opted for the Leonardo AW169M model. Most recently, Airbus and Bell were also in the running alongside the Italian manufacturer. Now the die has been cast. The Defense Ministry will buy a total of 18 units, which are to be delivered to the Armed Forces from mid-2022. However, there is no official confirmation from the minister yet. The order value based on list prices is around 300 million euros. This is the largest army investment in around 20 years. Of the 18 helicopters, six will also be used to train new pilots. The other 12 are intended as purely operational devices.

Air Baltic: 25 A220-300 by the end of the year

The Latvian airline Air Baltic took delivery of another Airbus A220-300 on Sunday. The fleet has now grown to 23 aircraft. Two more jets of this type are to be added by the end of the year. The youngest member of the fleet has the registration YL-AAW and arrived in Riga on Sunday. In the wake of the Corona crisis, Air Baltic sealed the premature end of the Boeing 737 and DHC Dash 8-400 fleets. Since then, the company has been a pure A220-300 operator. "The current crisis has enabled us to concentrate on the Airbus A220-300. This is the only aircraft type that Air Baltic will fly in the future. Our aircraft selection focuses on sustainability, which is an advantage in getting out of the crisis," says Managing Director Martin Gauss.
