Varna: quiet vacation vs. beach parties

Bulgaria has been a very popular summer holiday destination in recent years. The Golden Sands, located near the city of Varna, unfortunately now has the dubious reputation of being the “new Ballermann”. This is not entirely unjustified, as many party holidaymakers and artists, who have previously performed in Mallorca, are drawn to the Black Sea, particularly from Germany. But the Varna region has much more to offer than drunken, bawling holidaymakers from German-speaking countries. The small seaside resort of Slatni pjasazi (Golden Sands) is geared towards mass tourism in every respect. Large hotels are built close together in the heart of the small community, with an enormous number of bars and discos in between. The waterfront promenade is characterised by many stalls that claim to only sell original goods. From conspicuously cheap “branded goods” to alcohol, foot treatments with fish and tattoos, everything is available for little money. The atmosphere is accordingly during the high season, as many travellers from the DA-CH region come here to party. The clientele that has become a thorn in Mallorca's side can be found more and more in Bulgaria. It is considerably cheaper and even alcohol in buckets on the beach is not prohibited here. So if you like partying and drinking until the doctor comes, this is the place to be during the high season. But it is important to remember that the beach is enormous and, similar to Mallorca, only a very small section is a party zone. Outside of this it is extremely quiet and relaxed and inexpensive beach holidays with the whole

Delta plans to take over 40 Airbus jets later

The European aircraft manufacturer Airbus is said to be in negotiations with major customer Airbus about a possible postponement of the delivery of around 40 jets. Bloomberg reports that the machines were supposed to be delivered this year, but the US carrier is trying to take delivery of them at least next year. Airbus only stated that it is in intensive contact with all customers and that this expressly applies to Delta. However, it generally does not provide any information about agreements and negotiations. The US airline Delta also did not want to comment on the report. However, Bloomberg also reports that the carrier is trying to raise around 750 million US dollars through sale and leasebacks of nine Airbus aircraft. Delta also made no comment on this topic.

BER: start of construction for second hotel

Investor Dietz is building a 3-star Intercity Hotel at Willy-Brandt-Platz directly in front of Terminal 1. Dietz AG is building a 1-star Intercity Hotel directly in front of Terminal 3 of the new capital airport Berlin Brandenburg. The six-storey accommodation will have 357 rooms, a large spa area, 450 square metres of conference space and a restaurant with a bistro lounge - and will be completed by spring 2022. "When the new hotel opens in spring 2022, it will further revitalise Willy-Brandt-Platz. This will create a first impression of the urbanity that we also want for the other landside development projects. That is why the hotel is also an important milestone in the development of the BER real estate location. We are delighted to have a strong partner in Dietz on board for this important construction project and wish them every success," says Engelbert Lütke Daldrup, Chairman of the Management Board of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH.

Lufthansa airlines make it possible to book free adjacent seats

Anyone who wants to play it safe with Lufthansa Airlines in the future no longer has to settle for the current seating arrangements. Passengers can now book the seat next to them - initially only via GDS. This allows them to buy the free middle seat and thus a greater distance from the other passengers during the flight. According to the news portal AboutTravel, the extra seat (EXST) costs as much as a conventional passenger ticket - excluding taxes and fees.

The first MS-21 will go to Aeroflot at the end of 2021

At the end of 2012, UAC group member Irkut plans to deliver the first MS-21 aircraft. This was announced by Denis Manturov, Minister of Economic Affairs of the Russian Federation. The premiere unit is to be handed over to Aeroflot. The Irkut MS-21 has been newly developed as a medium-haul jet. Depending on the version, it should be able to carry between 150 and 230 passengers. The project is therefore also the Russian answer to the A320 series and the B737 family. In terms of firm orders, however, UAC cannot keep up with its western competitors, as only 162 firm orders have been received so far. With the exception of orders from Egypt and Azerbaijan, all customers come from the Russian Federation.

Lufthansa before the Bremen flight school closes

In view of the precarious Corona situation, the AUA parent company is apparently considering closing the flight school in Bremen - this would shatter the dream of around 700 aspiring young pilots. The board of directors led by Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr is currently discussing further drastic austerity measures. First and foremost, the end of the traditional Bremen flight school is on the table. The crane airline currently has little hope of an early recovery in air traffic and is steadily reducing its fleet capacity. This means that fewer staff will be needed in the future - and certainly not new pilots. There is currently a training freeze for the current student body in Bremen. This came into effect immediately after the Corona situation escalated. Even the management of the educational institution lacks any optimism. Quite the opposite: "Many of you are still at the beginning of your career. We would therefore like to encourage you to reorient yourself professionally," says an internal circular that the news magazine buten un binnen has seen. Is that all there is to it? At least the current flight students don't want to give up yet and have published an emotional video in which they once again ask the Lufthansa management for leniency. The dream of flying is too big. But it looks like this will change with a crash.

Norbert Hofer invents and criticizes First Class at Austrian Airlines

In his latest media release, FPÖ party leader Norbert Hofer invented a non-existent first class at Austrian Airlines and promptly claimed that the company was planning for rapid PCR tests in this class of travel to be paid for by the state in the future. Naturally, the liberal politician strongly criticized the alleged "plan". The release reads verbatim: "AUA also wants to test first and business class passengers as a first step. Hofer: 'It is precisely the passengers in these classes - or companies that book business class for their employees - who usually have sufficient financial means to cover the costs of a corona test.' (…) As a result of the excessive and wrong measures taken by the black-green federal government, many Austrians cannot afford to travel by air at all due to unemployment or short-time work - now asking the state to pay for corona tests for passengers in expensive flight classes is the wrong signal, says Hofer." Norbert Hofer also once again criticizes the state aid granted by the Republic of Austria to Austrian Airlines: "As an enthusiastic pilot and supporter of the aviation industry, I have a great interest in this industry getting back on its feet after the corona crisis. After the hundreds of millions of euros in state aid that was provided to AUA, the Republic cannot also cover the costs of the corona tests for AUA passengers."

Air France-KLM increases the GDS fee, Aegean introduces it

It was only recently announced that the Lufthansa Group will increase the controversial GDS fee. Competitor Air France-KLM took this step on September 10, 2020, largely unnoticed by the public. Since then, a surcharge of 13 euros has been due for reservations made via GDS systems such as Amadeus, Galileo or Sabre. This means that the fee has been increased by one euro. The trade magazine FVW also reports that the Greek airline Aegean is now also asking for additional payment via this sales channel. This is to take effect on January 1, 2021. No further details on the amount of the surcharge were given.

Airbus: Negotiations with IG Metall postponed without result

The first round of negotiations between Airbus and IG Metall ended without result on Thursday. On October 2, 2020, the employer and the union will meet again for talks. Airbus intends to cut around 3.000 jobs in Germany. However, IG Metall believes that this can be avoided by means of short-time work. In the collective bargaining negotiations, the union is of the opinion that as many jobs as possible must be saved. The aircraft manufacturer expects a prolonged slump in orders and wants to cut around 15.000 jobs worldwide. Both sides described the first round of talks as "constructive".

AUA: Schengen Lounge opens again

Good news for all lounge lovers: From September 29th, an Austrian Airlines lounge (Terminal 3, Level 2 or F-Gates) will once again be accessible to business class travelers and status customers. Due to the spread of the Corona pandemic and the temporary suspension of flight operations, the Lufthansa subsidiary had to temporarily close all lounges on March 16th. With the reopening, there is also an innovation: From now on, caterer DoN is responsible for the culinary offerings in the Austrian Airlines Lounge. Austria's largest privately run catering company won the tender and will now cater for lounge guests. DO & CO remains the partner for onboard catering on Austrian Airlines flights. The reopened AUA lounge is located at the F-Gates in Terminal 3 and is open daily from 05:30 a.m. to 20 p.m. Initially, only the Business Lounge Schengen will be reopened and will be available to all passengers authorized to enter. HON-Circle guests can expect their own area.
