January 2021: Another decline also at Wizz Air

The Wizz Air Group recorded a further decline in passengers in January 2021. 573.692 passengers were transported. In the same month last year, there were 3.151.622 travelers. This means that there were around 82 percent fewer passengers on board. The load factor was 61 percent. In view of the corona pandemic, however, the comparison with December 2020 is more meaningful. In the last month of the previous year, Wizz Air had 665.772 passengers on board. In this perspective, the decline is around 14 percent. The load factor in December 2020 was 56,1 percent.

Production of components for A321XLR started

Production of components for the Airbus A321XLR has now started. The aircraft manufacturer announced that assembly of the first front, middle and rear fuselage sections will begin first. "We are already building large and small components and systems for the first A321XLR flight test aircraft worldwide," explains A321XLR program manager Gary O'Donnell. "At the same time, we are also testing and checking structural parts and systems to ensure that they function safely. With the help of the design plans, the factories and suppliers are preparing for the start of series production and for the actual construction of the first parts. In the second half of the year, the finished components will then be delivered to the final assembly line in Hamburg." The Airbus A321XLR is a variant with an even greater range than the LR variant, which is also based on the A321neo. A new integral tank with a larger capacity should make the model suitable for many long-haul routes. Since this measure also increases the MTOW, all sections will be reinforced.

January 2021: Another decline at Ryanair

The Ryanair Group carried around 2021 million passengers across the group in January 1,3. In direct comparison with the same month last year, this represents a decline of 88 percent. In January 2020, i.e. before the Corona crisis, the low-cost airline group still had 10,8 million travelers on board. The direct comparison with December 2020 is much more interesting. The carrier counted 1,9 million travelers in the last month of the previous year. This means that the "renewed downward trend" that began in September 2020 continues. From this perspective, there was therefore a decline of 2021 percent in January 32.
