Vilnius: Heston takes delivery of second Airbus A320

The airline start-up Heston Airlines has now taken over the second Airbus A320. This has the registration LY-VUT and is around 17 years old. The twin-jet was originally delivered to the low-cost airline Easyjet. The carrier received AOC and operating license from the authorities in Lithuania a few days ago. The LY-FJI was officially taken over in April 2021. The company, which is a joint venture between the maintenance company Heston and the lessor Genesis, originally wanted to start with three A320s. The plan to fly with three aircraft of this type is still current, but when operations begin, they will initially start with the LY-VUT and the LY-FJI. Another A320 is to be added to the fleet at a later date. Heston Airlines will specialize in charter and ACMI services. There are currently no plans to start scheduled flights on its own account.

Passports: Vienna recommends booking appointments in good time

The City of Vienna expects that there will be a rush on the 19 passport offices located in the municipal district offices shortly before the summer holidays. An appeal is now being made to residents to ensure that a new passport should only be applied for if it is needed for a trip abroad. Around 200.000 passports in Vienna will expire in 2021, which poses a considerable challenge for the district offices' passport service centers. In order to get your passport relatively quickly, you should therefore not wait until the last minute to make an appointment. The passport should also only be renewed before the holiday season if this is absolutely necessary because of a trip abroad. The district offices have now made numerous additional appointments available for the application to deal with the expected rush. A total of almost 25.000 appointments will be offered in June alone. Until further notice, the Vienna district offices are offering an expanded range of appointments, including extended opening hours on Tuesdays - here, the public access has been extended until further notice in line with the long Thursdays (8 a.m. to 17 p.m.). In addition, the district offices will also be open on two Saturdays in June exclusively for passport applications, namely on June 30th and June 12.06th, from 19.06 a.m. to 8 p.m. Each of these additional appointments outside of the current opening hours is estimated to take 14 minutes in the online calendar, so that even more appointments are available. It is important to note that a prior appointment (online, by phone, etc.) is required for a passport renewal. Moreover, an appointment for a passport renewal cannot be made for several people, but only for

Qatar Airways is considering first class comeback

A few years ago, Qatar Airways withdrew from the "first class arms race" that some Gulf carriers had engaged in. This class of travel was even removed from many aircraft because, according to company boss Akbar Al Baker, it was loss-making. Now first class could be making a comeback. The only aircraft that currently have a first class cabin are the Airbus A380, which the Qatar boss no longer wants to reactivate. During an aviation conference, he even described this type of aircraft as a major mistake. The consequence of this, however, is that this Gulf carrier cannot currently offer first class. The reason is simple: the other aircraft simply do not have one installed. That could change, because Akbar Al Baker explained to the Simple Flying portal that the reintroduction of first class on certain routes is currently being examined. The manager sees good demand for the top product on certain routes, but not on all routes. Now there is the idea that some aircraft could be upgraded to include first class cabins. At the same time, the Qatar boss also highlights the advantages of the business class product and does not provide any further details on a possible timetable for a possible comeback of first class. However, the reintroduction is considered likely in order to be able to better appeal to particularly affluent clientele. It can be assumed that the focus will be on those routes on which first class was previously offered on the Airbus A380. However, nothing is set in stone yet.

Norwegian sends Sweden subsidiary to bankruptcy

A spokesman confirmed that the subsidiary in Sweden will file for insolvency. There are no plans to continue. Norwegian will continue its activities seamlessly via the new Swedish branch. According to official information, this will not result in any job cuts. In the meantime, the group has been able to meet all requirements in the insolvency proceedings conducted in Ireland and Norway and left creditor protection on May 26, 2021. Norwegian was able to raise the lion's share of the capital required for this on the financial market. In the future, the airline will focus on flights within Scandinavia and tourist European routes.
