Nouvelair is expanding towards Germany

This summer, the airline Nouvelair plans to fly to the German destinations Frankfurt am Main, Hanover, Düsseldorf, Cologne/Bonn and Berlin-Brandenburg. In Switzerland, Geneva is on the flight schedule. According to a press release, the carrier, which comes from Tunisia, is primarily focusing on so-called ethnic traffic. It is hoped that Tunisians living in Germany will use the flight connections to visit their homeland. Entry regulations are currently still restrictive, so tourist use is likely to play a minor role. The new flights are offered from Tunis and partly from Monastir. Tickets can already be booked via the Nouvelair website. The airline was founded in 1996 and currently operates ten Airbus A320-200s. The average age of the fleet is 14,9 years.

Flight MH17 shot down: main proceedings started

Almost seven years after the shooting down of passenger flight MH17 over eastern Ukraine, the main proceedings against four suspected perpetrators will begin today in the Netherlands. First, there will be a general discussion of the case in the specially secured courthouse at Amsterdam airport, according to the ORF. Substantive questions of the investigation against the defendants – three Russians and one Ukrainian – are then to be clarified by Thursday. According to the public prosecutor's office, the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 was shot down over contested eastern Ukraine on July 17, 2014 by pro-Russian rebels using a Russian BUK anti-aircraft missile. All 298 people on board were killed. The plane was en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. Defendants not present None of the defendants are present at the proceedings. Only the Russian Oleg Pulatow, who is said to have played a leading role in the secret service of the self-proclaimed Donetsk Republic, is being represented in court by lawyers. He had stated that he was not responsible.

Salzburg celebrates the comeback of Eurowings Europe

It was particularly quiet at Salzburg Airport for a few months because many routes were suspended due to the corona pandemic. Time and again, there were even no scheduled flights at all from Austria's second largest airport. Eurowings Europe is now ramping up its holiday program. "Our passengers took off this weekend with a lot of anticipation in their luggage and relief that the travel restrictions had largely been lifted! But it wasn't just the passengers who were excited; the crews of the Eurowings planes were also happy about the start of normality. At the end of June, we will also be reviving many Germany connections such as the Lufthansa HUB Frankfurt. However, in order for our flight connections to Turkey, Great Britain and Arabia to start, a clear and positive entry regulation is still required - and we are now hoping for this with great emphasis. We are definitely picking up speed again and are hoping for a favorable tailwind," said airport authorized officer and Head of Traffic & Sales, Christopher Losmann. Salzburg Airport turned the comeback of Eurowings holiday flights at the weekend into a small apron event to express the joy. Even a carriage was used to bring the passengers to the plane.

DTM handles further first flights

Today, Eurowings' first flight from Dortmund to Heraklion took off. The Lufthansa subsidiary flies the route every Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. The flight times are in addition to Wizz Air's connection to the Greek island. From June 14, Wizz Air will again fly from Dortmund to Heraklion on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. "This means our passengers can fly to Crete almost every day. Eurowings' first flight today is further proof that Greek destinations from Dortmund are becoming increasingly popular. A year ago, only Thessaloniki was flown to. Travelers can now choose between five destinations: Thessaloniki, Santorini, Athens, Kavala and Crete," says Guido Miletic, Head of Airport Services and Marketing. Connections to Greece are set to continue to grow in the future. From July 2, Eurowings will also fly to Rhodes. In June, around 17 flights a week will be flying from Dortmund to the popular holiday destination. Italian routes are also growing steadily. The first plane to Naples took off just a few days ago. In just over two hours, travelers can get from the Ruhr region to the city where pizza was born. "Naples has a lot to offer. Because of the travel days Friday and Monday and the short flight time, the destination is suitable for both a long weekend trip and a longer summer vacation. We are therefore very happy that we can now offer passengers this route," Miletic continued. With a bit of luck, travelers will fly from Dortmund to Italy on the BVB team Airbus, because Dortmund has been the official home airport of this aircraft since June.

Belarus: “EU has taken over the market and business by force”

The EU flight ban for airlines based in Belarus has been officially in force since Saturday. The state-owned Belavia is the first to be affected. The airline has strongly criticized the EU Commission's decision and stated, among other things, that the measure violates international aviation law. In a TV interview with the state-run ONT station, the head of the aviation department of the Belarus Ministry of Transport even said that the sanctions imposed by the European Union represented a "violent takeover of the business and the market". Belavia had to cancel all flights that would use EU airspace or land at an airport in the Union. Belavia wants to reorient itself and primarily fly to destinations in Russia and other CIS countries. Nevertheless, it is obviously hoping that the EU Commission will end the sanctions as quickly as possible. It is also noteworthy that the TV interview did not mention any possible claims for damages.

First rescue helicopter flies with bio-kerosene

New milestone in international aviation: In Munich, a rescue helicopter flew for the first time with environmentally friendly kerosene. The aircraft was a helicopter belonging to the non-profit ADAC Air Rescue. The Airbus H145 rescue helicopter was ceremoniously refueled with bio-kerosene (biofuel) at the air rescue station at the Munich Harlaching Clinic in the presence of the board of the ADAC Foundation as well as the managing directors and representatives of the management of ADAC Air Rescue, the French engine manufacturer Safran Helicopter Engines, the helicopter manufacturer Airbus Helicopters and the multi-energy group TotalEnergies. Bio-kerosene is currently certified and approved for aviation in a maximum mixture of 50 percent with conventional JET-A1 kerosene. The ADAC rescue helicopter was flown with a 40 percent mixture. This is not yet available in large quantities due to the complex production process and is many times more expensive than conventional aviation fuel. Sustainable Aviation Fuel The biofuel used is a so-called Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), a sustainable aviation fuel that can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 90 percent. Biofuels are fuels and energy produced on the basis of biomass. The fuel is usually made from waste from the circular economy, such as used cooking oils and fats, and therefore has no impact on agricultural food production. "We want to be a pioneer in reducing CO2 in air rescue with environmentally friendly kerosene. And we also want to use it to further develop air rescue technologically in order to make it future-proof in the long term. To achieve this, we have strong partners at our side. Important: Biofuel is an officially

Cabo Verde Airlines announces comeback

The airline Cabo Verde Airlines will emerge from its slumber on June 18, 2021. The carrier's aircraft have not taken off commercially since March 2020. Other destinations such as Boston and Paris will follow on June 28, 2021. Due to the corona pandemic and the comparatively extremely restrictive entry regulations, Cabo Verde Airlines has not been able to fly commercially since March 2020. The airline's fleet currently consists of three Boeing 757-200s. These have the registrations D4-CCF, D4-CCG and D4-CCH. The D4-CCF and the D4-CCH are currently being prepared for their commercial comeback. The D4-CCG is to remain in long-term storage - at least for the time being.

Survey: Austrians do not expect the pandemic to end quickly

According to a survey conducted by Unique Research on behalf of the news magazine Profil, only about eight percent of Austrians believe that the corona pandemic will end with vaccinations. At least 14 percent expect that new mutations will lead to lockdowns again, for example in autumn 2021. 71 percent of respondents answered that they assume that the virus will remain permanently, but that people will learn to live with it through vaccinations and new treatments. Thus, 85 percent of survey participants believe that the corona pandemic is far from over. Almost no one is apparently expecting a return to complete normality, as announced by Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) for summer 2021. 500 people were surveyed, with a fluctuation range of 4,4 percent.
