UK: Easyjet announces 12 domestic routes

Due to ongoing travel restrictions and the UK government's complicated traffic light system, Easyjet will shift capacity from the UK to Germany. The carrier has now announced that it will restructure its UK route network and operate 12 new domestic routes in the summer. The airline will begin operating flights from Belfast City to London Gatwick for the first time and return to East Midlands and Leeds Bradford. Connections from Belfast to Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow will be increased by 60.000 seats. The airline is expanding its domestic network to include three new UK airports, which include first-time flights from Belfast City Airport to London Gatwick. Easyjet will also return to Leeds Bradford and East Midlands airports with new flights to and from Belfast International Airport, routes previously served by Aer Lingus Regional operated by Stobart Air and providing an important link between the regions. “We know our customers can’t wait to meet up with friends and family or explore the UK, so these additional new routes today should prove popular and further strengthen our UK domestic network, offering customers even more choice. We regret the news about Stobart Air and are therefore pleased to be able to continue to offer important regional services from Belfast International Airport to East Midlands and Leeds Bradford airports, as well as launching Easyjet operations for the first time from Belfast City Airport to London Gatwick. We also know it is important for our customers to meet up with their loved ones abroad, so we are urging

Play also flies to Salzburg in winter

The Icelandic airline start-up Play will start its first route to Austria in the 2021/22 winter flight schedule. The carrier will fly between Keflavik and Salzburg every Sunday during the main ski season. The seasonal route is scheduled to start on January 22, 2022 and will initially be served until February 19, 2022. An extension is certainly possible, but depends on demand. The core target group are winter sports enthusiasts from Iceland who want to ski or snowboard around Salzburg. Airbus A321neo aircraft have been announced as the aircraft. Play presented the livery and uniforms a few days ago. Flight operations are due to begin shortly. No Austrian routes have been announced so far, so Salzburg is the first destination that Play is heading to in the Alpine republic.

VC calls for a positive signal to the industry

In the run-up to the 2021 Aviation Summit, the Cockpit Association is demanding that a positive signal be sent out for the entire industry. At the same time, the interests of the thousands of employees must not be neglected. "It is not enough to save corporations. Short-time work benefits were an important measure in the acute crisis. But what we need now is the long-term safeguarding of jobs. Politicians have shown too little commitment here over the past year and a half. As a major shareholder, the federal government also has a responsibility not to lose sight of the well-being of employees when making important business decisions. Wage dumping and social cuts at the expense of the state must not be accepted at any point. Instead, employees want a close collaboration between politicians, companies and workforces. We must all now concentrate together on the future of aviation," said the new VC President Stefan Herh.

Travel barometer: Austrians spend more money on vacation

The pandemic has kept Austrians' suitcases stowed away in the closet for long enough, and now they're being packed again. The Europ Assistance (EA) holiday barometer - a representative study carried out in May on behalf of the Europ Assistance Group in fourteen countries with a total of 14.000 respondents - shows clearly: This year, 61 percent of Austrians are planning a holiday again, compared to just 2020 percent in 41 due to the pandemic, but 70 percent the year before. 80 out of 100 respondents say they want to save money this year, and on average Austrians spend 2.088 euros on travel, which is 21 percent less than last year. Only holidaymakers from Switzerland are more generous (2.442 euros), the European average is 1.556 euros. When asked about vaccination, 76 percent of Austrian study participants say they will definitely get immunized. 63 percent are in favor of a cross-border vaccination certificate, 39 percent are prepared to go into quarantine for vacation. 23 percent of respondents are completely against tracking with an app. There are concerns about data protection and handling of the vaccination certificate. These results are plausible for Besim Akinci, CEO of Europ Assistance Austria, because: "Travel is and remains a basic need. For the immediate period after the pandemic, I see a strong need to catch up. But we can increasingly expect a change in travel and vacation behavior. People long for more depth and transparency. Travel should bring real added value, become more ecological and exude more individuality. Hotels with adequate infrastructure will continue to be in demand, but sustainable, digital and

Salzburg: Eurowings increases Heraklion and Palma

The Austrian airline Eurowings Europe has stationed a second Airbus jet at Salzburg Airport since Thursday. The aircraft was greeted with the usual water fountain by the fire brigade. Airport manager Bettina Ganghofer describes today as a particularly happy day for the airport and the region. The transfer flight from Palma de Mallorca landed in Salzburg at 14 p.m. "Today is a ray of hope after the worst aviation crisis of recent decades. Today, Eurowings is once again committing to the strategic partnership with the airport and to the future of Salzburg as an aviation location. Eurowings has always been at our side, never left us even in the crisis, was always the last carrier to stop flying and was always the first airline partner to return to Salzburg with flight connections. By stationing the second Airbus, Eurowings has today fulfilled a promise made before the crisis - a clear commitment to its Austrian base in Salzburg," said Ganghofer. Palma and Heraklion will be increased Due to high demand, Eurowings Europe will increase the routes to Palma de Mallorca and Heraklion. The company also reports strong booking figures on the other routes to Greece, Italy and Spain. Air Dolomiti reactivates Verona from Berlin and Düsseldorf

Lufthansa's Italian subsidiary Air Dolomiti will reactivate non-stop connections from Verona to Berlin and Düsseldorf in the next few days. Flights to Berlin will be available on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Air Dolomiti will fly to the state capital of North Rhine-Westphalia on Thursdays and Mondays. Air France is recognized for its actions

Nowadays, airlines attach particular importance to compliance with hygiene and safety regulations. The French carrier has now been rewarded for this. At the awards ceremony at the end of May, Air France received the so-called Diamond Award, the highest award in its category. The company has always put its customers and employees at the center of its precautions when it comes to health and safety issues, according to the jury. "Air France has put in place a solid strategy to combat the COVID-19 virus in its own territory. Health protection measures such as improved ventilation in enclosed spaces and constantly adapted on-board service ensure that passengers feel comfortable with an airline throughout their journey without compromising safety. Vienna: Wizz Air and Ryanair in comparison - who flies more?

The low-cost airlines Wizz Air and Ryanair are also competing fiercely from Vienna in the summer of 2021. A direct comparison of the offerings shows, however, that the Hungarian provider is more cautious this year than its Irish competitor. In July 2021, Ryanair is offering 246 weekly departures from Vienna Schwechat. Wizz Air has significantly fewer, as the carrier has 128 flights per week on sale. This picture continues in the following months, as can be seen from the table below: Month Wizz Air per week Ryanair per week July 2021 128 246 August 2021 169 329 September 2021 173 330 October 2021 175 330 At first glance, this might suggest that Wizz Air may have taken some of the momentum out of the competition. But that is not the case, as both providers are deliberately seeking confrontation. In recent weeks and months, both low-cost airlines have announced routes that are already served by the other. The Ryanair vs. Wizz Air match at Vienna Airport is continuing and there has even been a kind of "consolidation" on more and more routes. Ryanair is planning much more optimistically from Austria's largest airport and is also keeping more aircraft on hand. According to Lauda Europe boss David O'Brien, 12 Airbus A320s operated by Lauda Europe are in use in mid-summer. In addition, there are three Boeing 737-800s operated by sister company Buzz for Ryanair. In total, the Irish group has 15 aircraft flying from Vienna. Wizz Air flies a lot "into Vienna" The Wizz Air base
