From June 26, 2021: Eurowings is returning to Klagenfurt

Klagenfurt Airport will soon "get back" its second scheduled route. After Austrian Airlines has reactivated its connection to the Vienna hub, its sister company Eurowings will follow in a few days. It will fly to Klagenfurt from Cologne/Bonn four times a week. The "comeback" has been announced for June 26, 2021. This would restore the two scheduled routes offered from the Carinthian airport. The 2021 summer flight schedule in Klagenfurt is also small in the charter sector. Currently, only the Greek Skyexpress with ATR72 is registered. On behalf of Springer Reisen, flights to Skiathos will be carried out every Friday until September 24, 2021.

Vienna: Blaguss continues to pause the airport bus - Postbus runs on the back burner

Not only the City Airport Train, but also the Airliner bus operated by Blaguss Reisen between Vienna Airport and the Erdberg subway station has been on hiatus since the beginning of the Corona pandemic. A rapid resumption of operations by Blaguss is not imminent. A spokeswoman for the bus and tourism group told Aviation Direct that the Airliner bus between Vienna Erdberg and Vienna Airport will remain "not in operation until further notice" due to the Corona crisis. As soon as the situation allows for long-term planning, information will be provided on the further development of this bus line. Competitor Österreichische Postbus AG is behind the Vienna Airport Lines. Here, too, operations have been repeatedly suspended due to low demand. The VAL1 (Airport-Main Station-West Station) lines will run hourly from 21:2021 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. from June 20, 30. The VAL3 (Donauzentrum) route has been in operation for some time, but currently only six coaches are offered per direction per day. The line between the airport and Schwedenplatz/Morzinplatz (VAL 2) remains suspended. According to Postbus AG, there is no specific date for the resumption of service for this route.

Albastar starts in Friedrichshafen

The Spanish airline Alba Star will start a non-stop connection between Friedrichshafen and Palma de Mallorca on July 29, 2021. The airport has thus managed to close the gap left by Ryanair due to the discontinuation of the former Lauda route. Ryanair's sudden withdrawal from the route came as a surprise to management after intensive negotiations. However, we are still in contact for future developments, said Friedrichshafen Airport in a media statement. In cooperation with Carrier Consult from Hanover, the Spanish airline Alba Star was won over for this route. Bookings can be made through travel agencies in connection with the tour operators offering the service, through online travel agencies and through the Friedrichshafen Airport booking platform. The first flight will take off on July 29, 2021, in time for the start of the summer holidays. The flights will take place on Thursdays and Sundays. The connections are currently planned until the end of the summer flight season, i.e. until November 6, 2021. "Even under difficult conditions, we have managed to keep the holiday island of Mallorca in our offer as one of the most popular holiday destinations for this region. I am convinced that the attractiveness of the destination, the demand from the region and our efficient airport operations will ensure that flights with Alba Star are carried out successfully," said Friedrichshafen boss Claus-Dieter Wehr.

Due to increasing demand: Delta wants to hire 1000 pilots

The US airline is planning a large-scale expansion of its workforce. More than 1000 pilots are to be hired by next summer - but only vaccinated ones. The Reuters news agency cites an internal memo that is making the rounds in the company. Delta is looking to the future with confidence. The volume of leisure travel in the USA is expected to return to pre-pandemic levels this month. The company also expects a significant increase in business travel. Therefore, at least 1000 new pilots are needed. But there is a catch. The documents of unvaccinated applicants end up directly in the airline's wastepaper basket. In the future, the airline will require corona vaccinations for new hires in the USA. This decision is necessary in order not to endanger the health of customers and employees. Existing employees, on the other hand, can still freely decide whether they want to be administered the vaccine. So far, more than 60 percent have done so.

Air France is testing the IATA Travel Pass

On June 17, the airline will test the IATA Travel Pass on flights from New York-JFK and Barcelona to Paris-Charles de Gaulle. Air France may already be preparing its customers to use digital tools to get them used to the post-Covid era. Because in the future, the use of a digital travel pass seems more than conceivable. The only question is which application will be used. The full integration of a digital solution into passenger travel is an essential prerequisite for the resumption of international travel. The IATA Travel Pass is an example of a digital tool that could become the standard for verifying travel documents and we are delighted to test this solution," says COO Alain-Hervé Bernard.

Premiere: Sundair uses widebodies for the first time

The German airline Sundair is currently experiencing a sharp increase in demand on routes from Germany to Beirut. In Berlin, demand is currently so high that the aircraft operated by the carrier itself have become too small. For the first time in the company's history, widebodies are flying under Sundair flight numbers. The first to do so is the Bulgarian airline Gullivair, which will operate the Berlin-Beirut route for the German carrier with the LZ-AWZ (Airbus A330). The Spanish airline Wamos Air will also be flying Airbus A330s on a wet lease for the next four days. Sundair boss Marcos Rossello confirmed in an interview with Aviation Direct that Wamos Air will be using long-haul aircraft from Berlin for the next four days.
