Schwerin-Parchim remains a parking space for cars

There have been no scheduled or charter flights from Schwerin-Parchim for a long time. The airport is bankrupt and no buyer has been found so far. However, it has made a name for itself as a parking lot for motor vehicles, as various automobile manufacturers have been storing cars here since "Dieselgate". Liquidator Bettina Schmudde confirmed to the German Press Agency that this will not change any time soon. The corresponding "parking contract" was extended with the approval of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Aviation Authority at least until the end of 2021. Schwerin-Parchim Airport is not a victim of the corona pandemic, but had to go to the bankruptcy judge on May 2, 2019. The airport was in the hands of a Chinese operator who was able to implement little or nothing of the initially ambitious plans. The bankruptcy proceedings are difficult because there are various usage concepts. It is not a given that the airport will ever go back online.

Gullivair is to breathe new life into Ruse Airport

The Bulgarian airline Gullivair currently specialises in providing ACMI and charter services. This could change, as the carrier is considering flying within Bulgaria with the ATR72-600 model. Specifically, the first step will be a non-stop connection between Ruse and the capital Sofia. First, however, the license of Ruse Airport, which has a 2.500-metre-long runway, must be extended to include larger aircraft. According to local media reports, preparations have already been made. The expansion of the route network from Ruse is planned at a later date. For this purpose, up to three ATR72-600s could be stationed in this Bulgarian city. It is currently unclear whether international connections are also planned. Ruse Airport has been in a kind of deep sleep for some time due to a lack of demand. Local politicians want to change that with the help of Gullivair.

Swiss boss Vranckx expects mask requirement to last for years

The Swiss airline is still losing "less than 1,5 million francs" per day. It is hoped that 50 to 55 percent of pre-crisis capacity can be offered in midsummer and it is assumed that demand will still be reduced by 2023 percent in 20. This was explained by company boss Dieter Vranckx in an interview with Blick. Just three months ago, Swiss was planning to offer around 65 percent capacity in midsummer. According to Vranckx, this plan has been adapted to the current circumstances. He also said that three months is "a long time" in the current situation. Nevertheless, the hope lies in increasing demand and with the help of this "we can stop this outflow of money, but the situation remains difficult in the medium term." Dieter Vranckx has already literally written off the year 2022 and describes it as a "transitional year". "We expect a further increase in booking numbers in 2022, but we are setting our goals for 2023," the manager told Blick. The winter of 2021/2022 could be difficult for Swiss, as it is currently not possible to predict how demand will develop. The company boss does not expect growth before February 2022. Mask requirement to "remain for years" When asked about the mask requirement on board Swiss aircraft, Vranckx told Blick that it will "remain for years". This applies to both passengers and staff. So far, 1.700 jobs have been cut, with around a third of them being laid off. The Swiss boss regrets this, but adds that they had no other option. Regarding the current capacity utilization and the number of

Innsbruck closes restaurants and shops again

From Thursday, Innsbruck Airport will noticeably be busier again, as shops and restaurants are celebrating their comeback. These had been closed in recent months due to low passenger numbers and, in some cases, official restrictions. Since the end of May, with the start of holiday flights to Greece, Italy and Spain, life has returned to the airport. The booking situation for the flights on offer shows that people are longing for a holiday and that the offers from tour operators are being very well received. From July 01, 2021, the shops and restaurants at the airport will also be able to open their doors again. First and foremost, the small MPREIS supermarket on the ground floor of the terminal, which slowly resumed operations in June and is now open from Monday to Sunday from July 01 - as follows: Monday to Friday 10:00 a.m. to 17:00 p.m., Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 18:30 p.m. and Sunday 07:30 a.m. to 17:30 p.m. "The reopening of our branch at the airport will not only benefit passengers and visitors to the airport, but also the population who live nearby and would like to purchase our products on Sundays, for example. We are therefore very pleased to be able to resume this offer," says David Mölk, Managing Director of MPREIS. The bakery Ruetz will also be opening again on weekends from 06 a.m. to 00 p.m. (Saturday and Sunday). The airport restaurant Fly Inn looks after the physical well-being of its guests on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays (from 16 a.m.), and the Travel Value Shop (after security checks) allows passengers to shop before departure. The deputy.

Lufthansa is promoting the comeback of long-haul routes with Special Livery

Lufthansa has given the Airbus A350-900 with the registration D-AIXP a special livery. The long-haul aircraft now bears the lettering "Lufthansa & You" and "#Together Again". The carrier wants to use this to draw attention to the industry's comeback. In the coming weeks and months, Germany's largest airline plans to significantly expand intercontinental traffic again. Between Europe and the United States in particular, the offer is to be increased to around 90 percent of the capacity it had before the pandemic. The special livery is intended to promote this additionally. Lufthansa announced that the D-AIXP will be used for the first time in its new livery on Wednesday. The long-haul aircraft will fly from Frankfurt am Main to Los Angeles and back again.

Delta: Ukraine introduces chargeable forced rapid tests at the border

On July 2, 2021, Ukraine will introduce a new entry procedure for people who have been in India, Russia, Portugal or the United Kingdom within the last 14 days before entry. During border control, a rapid antigen test must be taken. If this is refused, the person may be turned away. In addition, a negative PCR test that must not be older than 72 hours and an insurance policy that covers Covid diseases on the territory of Ukraine must be presented. People who are fully vaccinated against the coronavirus can present their proof of vaccination as an alternative 14 days after the last necessary dose. A rapid antigen test must be taken at the airports before crossing the border. According to a government announcement, appropriate testing stations will be set up for this purpose. Important: The costs for the antigen test, which have not been specified in more detail, must be paid by the traveler themselves and on site. If the result of the rapid test is positive, a PCR test must also be taken. Furthermore, you must go into quarantine immediately. If the result is negative, you will be allowed to enter Ukraine. If the rapid test is refused, the government says you will be rejected regardless of whether all other documents are available or not. This means that you will be denied entry to Ukraine. People who have not been in the countries mentioned in the first paragraph can still enter the country by presenting proof of vaccination or a negative PCR test.

Green Pass: Airports and airlines warn of long queues

From July 1, 2021, the digital EU certificates for those who have been tested, recovered and vaccinated are to go "live" in the Union territory and make entry easier. The centerpiece is the QR code, which ideally should be placed on scanners by passengers themselves after arrival. They should, because there is chaos behind the scenes. The core problem is that the "Green Pass" does not lead to uniform entry regulations within the European Union, but rather members continue to cook their own soup. The most recent example of this is that Germany has classified Portugal as a virus variant area since Tuesday. This leads to quarantine - even for Green Pass holders. At almost all airports in Europe, checks are still carried out manually. At Vienna Airport, for example, soldiers of the Federal Army are reviewing travelers' documents on behalf of the Bruck an der Leitha district administration. In Luqa, employees of the Ministry of Health check Covid documents after formal entry. In both cases, long queues are already forming frequently and are getting longer and longer. The industry expects that there could be hours of waiting at some airports. The solution to the problem is that passengers should scan the QR codes themselves at barriers that are comparable to self-boarding gates. If everything is OK, the barrier opens and if not, a manual follow-up check can be carried out by staff. This would speed up the processes in a practical way. Only a few airports have prepared for this, because it is also about money: Who pays for the technology? The respective airport or the respective authority that carries out these checks? It is therefore not surprising that the airport association ACI
