England: Facilitated entry for UK residents only

The English part of the United Kingdom wants to lift almost all corona measures on July 19, 2021. This also means that entry will be significantly easier, at least for vaccinated people. But there is a catch, because only its own citizens or residents benefit from the relaxations. People entering from abroad for tourist purposes are still subject to quarantine if the state is on the Amber or Red List. However, UK residents who are fully vaccinated and minors - who live in the UK - will no longer be isolated. Important: The new regulation only applies to the English part of the country. Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland cook their own soup and sometimes have different regulations. It is also already becoming apparent that they do not want to follow the easing announced by Boris Johnson, at least for the time being.

Leipzig: protesters blocked the DHL hub

Leipzig/Halle Airport has developed into an important freight hub for Germany and Europe in recent years. In Germany - in contrast to Austria - the volume has risen sharply during the corona pandemic. The planned expansion in Saxony is therefore an obvious choice. However, some demonstrators objected and blocked the access to the Deutsche Post-DHL logistics center on Saturday night. This led to a backlog of trucks, so that the police had to intervene. According to its own statements, DHL also filed criminal charges against the demonstrators. Many demonstrators did not want to reveal their identity to the police on site, so an investigating judge had to deal with the matter on Sunday. According to the public prosecutor's office, no pre-trial detention was issued because the suspects then identified themselves to the judge and could be identified without a doubt. The law enforcement authorities are investigating on suspicion of coercion. Another thing that caused a stir in Leipzig was the fact that urgently needed corona vaccines were on board some of the planes. These were loaded onto trucks, which were unable to leave the area due to the blockade. Pilots were also allegedly prevented from entering the airport, which also caused delays for departing cargo planes. Due to the high demand, around 40 additional parking spaces for cargo planes are to be built at Leipzig/Halle Airport. This would increase capacity by around 40 percent. Local residents and environmental activists fear that there could be more flight movements at night. They are therefore trying to prevent the expansion by means of protests.

Stuttgart starts vaccinations without an appointment before departure

From July 14, 2021, passengers will be able to get vaccinated on the Stuttgart Airport site more or less without a specific appointment. By presenting a ticket or booking confirmation for a trip that is in the near future, you can get vaccinated with the vaccines from Biontech/Pfizer and Moderna. The Esslingen district is setting up the vaccination center in the exhibition center, which is located opposite the passenger terminals. According to the state of Baden-Württemberg, no advance registration is required, but is recommended if you want to avoid any queues. Both first and second vaccinations will be administered. Theoretically, it is also possible to get the vaccination immediately before departure, but the Esslingen district recommends that in this case you should arrive at least four hours before departure and in any case reserve a "vaccination slot" in advance. The route between the exhibition center and the terminals can easily be covered on foot. It is only a few steps and the paths are well signposted. Important: Luggage may not be taken into the vaccination center. Lockers are provided near Terminal 1 for this purpose. Alternatively, you can also drop off your luggage before the vaccination.

Skyexpress orders five more ATR72-600s

The Greek airline Skyexpress recently took delivery of its first ATR72-600. It has now been announced that an order has been placed for five more aircraft. These are to be delivered before the end of the year. This will bring the fleet to six units. Skyexpress is currently carrying out an extensive capacity expansion. For example, it is building up a respectable Airbus A320neo fleet, which is also used in Germany, among other places. Previously, Skyexpress specialized in operating ATR42/72-500 turboprop aircraft. It continues to maintain a dense regional network on which the new arrivals are to be used. There are a total of 35 routes within Greece. Air France-KLM switched to A220-300 for Transavia

The two Transavia airlines of Air France-KLM have been loyal Boeing customers for many years. There has been repeated speculation that a large order for the Boeing 737-Max could be imminent. Now it has been announced that the Airbus A220-300 is also on the shortlist. While the French part of the group, apart from Transavia France, is considered to be more Airbus-friendly, its sister company KLM has long relied on Boeing and Embraer. The Transavia subsidiaries currently operate only 737 fleets, which is why both aircraft manufacturers are keen on orders. A final decision has not yet been made, but group boss Ben Smith told the Dutch daily newspaper “Het Financieele Dagblad” that up to 160 aircraft are to be purchased for the two Transavia airlines. In the running are - not surprisingly - the Boeing 737-Max and the Airbus A320neo. However, according to Smith, they also have their eye on the A220-300. This is the model that Air France is using to renew its short-haul fleet. Sister company KLM Cityhopper is relying on aircraft from its competitor Embraer in this segment. It is also conceivable that Transavia could split the order. This would mean saying goodbye to the standard fleet, which currently consists of the 737-700 and -800 models. It is expected that Air France-KLM could set the course in the next few weeks, because due to the corona pandemic, the manufacturers are said to be open to negotiations on the purchase price.

Malta Air: First Boeing 737-Max 200 arrives in Bergamo

The Ryanair subsidiary Malta Air is stationing the first Boeing 737 Max 200 on the mainland at the Italian airport in Bergamo. The group will initially use the aircraft of this type from Stansted and from the metropolis, which is located north of Milan. According to Ryanair managers, the reason for this is that the company has its own technical operations at both the British airport and in Bergamo. The first Boeing 737 Max 200 is scheduled to arrive in the Italian city on July 20, 2021. It has 197 seats. It is a special low-cost variant of the Max 8. "We recognize the importance of the arrival of Ryanair's new aircraft, the first of its kind not only in Milan Bergamo, but in the whole of Italy. By the end of the summer season, we expect to have up to five 737-8200s stationed at our airport and another five by mid-2022, which will gradually replace the currently stationed B737-800," said Ryanair DAC Managing Director Eddie Wilson. In order to no longer have to use the word "Max", the Irish low-cost carrier has come up with a special solution. For several months now, the aircraft have simply been called "Boeing 737-8200 Gamechanger". This is not an official name from the manufacturer, but a marketing invention by Ryanair.

Lawsuit against Etihad: BGH denies German jurisdiction

Air Berlin insolvency administrator Lucas Flöther suffered a bitter legal defeat before the German Federal Court of Justice. The Supreme Court denied the jurisdiction of the German judiciary in connection with the damages claim brought against Etihad Airways. Flöther filed a damages claim against the major shareholder in Berlin on behalf of the bankruptcy estate. The latter countered with a declaratory action that was intended to confirm the place of jurisdiction in London - according to the contract. A court in the United Kingdom recognized international jurisdiction and opened the proceedings. Berlin then declared itself incompetent and referred the case to the proceedings in London. The insolvency administrator appealed against this decision to the Federal Court of Justice, as he expected better chances for the creditors if the proceedings were conducted in Germany. The Federal Court of Justice rejected this request, which is why the damages claim can only be heard in the United Kingdom. Just recently, Lucas Flöther, in his capacity as insolvency administrator, filed a damages claim against a subsidiary of Deutsche Börse. He is of the opinion that, as a result of Brexit, the latter has become the personally liable partner of the limited partnership. The proceedings have not yet been opened.
