Zurich: Air Albania conducts first flight to Kukës

Air Albania operated its first flights from Kukës to Zurich and Istanbul on Thursday, using an Airbus A319. According to the airline, there were 120 passengers on board the flight from Switzerland to Albania. "We are pleased that Kukës is quickly becoming a destination for the northern region of Albania, including Kosovo. The new Kukës Airport has already scheduled 6 flights a week and it seems that passenger demand to and from Kukës is high, as are our expectations for this new project of Albanian air transport," said the Chief Executive Officer of Kukës International Airport, Altin Progonati. "We are very excited and honored that today, on the first day of Air Albania flights in Kukës, we are almost fully booked. This means that Albanians trust us, not only because we have made air travel easier and faster, but also because we have brought affordable prices and excellent service. We are proud that the second gateway in Albania’s skies serves all Albanian territories Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia and Montenegro,” said Air Albania Chief Executive Officer Sinan Dilek.

Belgium extends entry controls

Due to the Europe-wide spread of the Delta variant of the coronavirus, the Belgian government is tightening passenger checks at the country's airports. Among other things, Charleroi and Brussels announced that the police and health authorities will systematically check arriving passengers. These checks will be carried out randomly on all flights arriving in Brussels, among others, and will be coordinated and carried out by the Federal Police. Every passenger has the opportunity to be subjected to a police check. Brussels Airport supports the Federal Police to ensure that everything runs as smoothly as possible. During peak times, these checks can lead to queues for passengers. "We therefore ask our passengers to prepare for these checks and to have their necessary documents and PLF ready. We also ask airlines to carry out the necessary checks on their passengers before they board the aircraft at the departure airport," said Brussels Airport. The country's largest airport expects around 40.000 passengers a day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It is therefore assumed that there may be longer waiting times due to the official entry controls. Brussels Airport asks for your understanding for this.

Eurowings Discover: Ready to go, but no surprises

In a few days, the new Lufthansa offshoot Eurowings Discover will take off on its first official scheduled flight. The ambitious project has been sharply criticized by employee representatives because it is flying outside the Lufthansa Group collective agreement. To be precise: EW Discover has no collective agreement at all. The first flight is scheduled to take place on July 24, 2021 with an Airbus A330 from Frankfurt am Main to Zanzibar via Mombasa. The "inner workings" of the aircraft are largely identical to the previous Eurowings product. The only noticeable thing is that the logos have been expanded to include the addition "Discover". Otherwise, there are no significant surprises for passengers. Replacement for former subsidiary Condor Lufthansa wants to bundle its tourism activities under the Eurowings Discover brand. To put it simply, it is building a "replacement" for the former holiday flight division Condor. This was sold many years ago and thus largely withdrawn from the tourism business. It is obvious that the company is seeking confrontation with its former subsidiary. Lufthansa tried – initially in vain – to terminate the feeder contracts and “double” numerous routes. Eurowings Discover is set to grow extremely quickly, as it plans to operate ten Airbus A2021s and eleven Airbus A320s by mid-330. It will start with long-haul flights before medium-haul flights are to be served – initially from Frankfurt – from November 2021. Five A2022s will initially be permanently stationed in Munich from May 320. A spokesperson confirmed to Aero.de that the A320 fleet will be distributed in five aircraft each between Frankfurt am Main and Munich. These will be used to fly to destinations such as the Canary Islands. To what extent this will affect the current offer

To Hamburg and Venice: Iberia operates charter flights for MSC

Starting Saturday, Spanish IAG member Iberia will operate charter flights once a week between Madrid and Venice and Hamburg for the MSC shipping company. These will initially be offered until the end of September 2021. These flights will operate every Saturday from Madrid to Venice, departing Madrid at 9:15 a.m. and arriving at 11:45 a.m. to provide the best connections with the MSC cruise ship in the Italian city. From Madrid to Hamburg, flights will also operate on Saturdays, leaving the Spanish capital at 10:00 a.m. and arriving in Hamburg at 13:00 p.m., the best time to change with the MSC cruise in this German port. These flights, dedicated exclusively to cruise passengers, offer a total of 5.200 seats, an offer that Iberia complements with its regular flights to both destinations: two more daily flights to Venice and another daily flight to Hamburg. “The agreement with MSC Cruises and this charter operation represent a new milestone in the recovery of tourism after the pandemic. We hope this is the beginning of a long relationship with one of the most prestigious companies in the sector,” says Guillermo González-Vallina, Iberia Sales Director for Spain, Portugal and North Africa.

Slovakia: Supreme court overturns defacto vaccination requirement when entering the country

While decisions by the Constitutional Court in Austria tend to take a long time, decisions in Slovakia are very quick. The Supreme Court overturned the entry regulations that came into force on July 9, 2021. In an interim order, the Constitutional Court of Slovakia ordered that the old entry rules apply again until the final verdict. The court, based in Kosice, is examining whether a de facto vaccination requirement upon entry can even be reconciled with the constitution. The Supreme Court's decision is seen as a bitter defeat for the government in Slovakia. Specifically, it is about the fact that from July 9, 2021 until the Constitutional Court overturned it, Slovakia only allowed fully vaccinated people to enter without quarantine. All others had to undergo a 14-day quarantine, from which they could be released after five days. It is still unclear what impact the Supreme Court's decision will have on people who are already in isolation.

European Air Charter increases in Germany

On behalf of several tour operators, European Air Charter is once again increasing its flight offer from Germany. A total of 2021 additional flights are to be carried out between July and September 38. The tour operators Alltours, DER, Schauinsland Reisen, FTI and Tui are working with the Bulgarian airline. The additional flights will be operated from Frankfurt am Main, Leipzig, Munich, Stuttgart and Hanover. The increase is justified by the currently high demand for holiday destinations. European Air Charter operates in Austria on behalf of tour operators from Linz and Graz. An Airbus A320 is currently stationed at the Upper Austrian airport. This is used to serve destinations such as Heraklion and Rhodes. The video below shows an Airbus A320 from European Air Charter taking off from Graz: This video shows an A320 from European Air Charter on approach or landing at the Greek airport in Rhodes:

Comment: Mückstein's dream of the next lockdown

The "Green Pass", which was celebrated by politicians just a few weeks ago, is becoming more and more of a dud. It was promised that those who had recovered, been vaccinated and tested would be able to travel freely, but the patchwork of different entry and quarantine regulations has not been eliminated. The recent example of Malta shows how worthless the "Green Pass" can be. In Austria, Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) and Health Minister Werner Mückstein (Greens) are already dreaming of the next lockdowns, but the credibility of politicians has now reached a new low. However, two scapegoats have already been identified for the rise in infection rates: the nightlife industry and - not surprisingly - tourists. If the claims that around a quarter of new infections are due to returning travelers are true, the government must face the question of why air travelers are checked almost without gaps, while those traveling by land are only waved through half-heartedly and in some cases there are no checks at all on entry documents. It is possible to come to Austria from Germany or Italy, for example, without any problems. Without any test, vaccination or recovery, because nobody will notice anyway. It is precisely this circumstance that gives questionable "experts" room to create panic and fear-mongering, who once again pillory air travelers with baseless and scientifically unfounded claims. The fact is that the majority of the population has long since passed the point of "going along" and there is hardly any understanding or willingness for "coronavirus measures". Where is Sebastian Kurz's normal summer? Sebastian Kurz promised that there would be a normal summer this year. Corona does exist.

Salzburg: FlyDubai carried out its premiere flight

On Thursday evening at around 21:40 p.m., Flydubai landed at Salzburg Airport for the first time. The carrier now offers a year-round connection to Dubai. The airport describes the event as a "milestone in the history of the airport." Transfers to Emirates flights are possible. "It's done! The negotiations surrounding this route were very complex and lengthy, but ultimately crowned with success. It is a very special event for our airport, because this connection to Dubai opens up a wealth of new onward flight options all over the world," says a delighted airport authorized representative Christopher Losmann. "The codeshare connection to the Emirates hub in Dubai is creating completely new perspectives for Salzburg Airport. In addition to the three airline alliances already represented, Star Alliance, One World and Skyteam, we have now gained a "4th alliance" so to speak. This means that in future we will be able to offer passengers the opportunity to reach destinations in the flydubai and Emirates networks all over the world quickly and conveniently. An incredible gain for the airport, the state of Salzburg and neighboring regions and our passengers." For the time being, FlyDubai operates four weekly flights between the two cities. This is the result of intensive efforts by the airport, as first the traffic rights had to be obtained and then Corona put a temporary stop to the plans. "In the past few weeks, the Austrian entry regulations were the last hurdle that could be overcome, because the adjustment of the directive means that nothing stands in the way of quarantine-free entry for people who have already been vaccinated against Covid-19," said Salzburg Airport in a statement. "By starting flights to Salzburg, we are continuously expanding our network,

Tips: This is how entering Spain works

Spain is a traditionally popular holiday destination. Mallorca is once again particularly popular with Germans this year. But simply flying to “Mallorca” is no longer an option. There are a few things to consider. First, the good news: Spain makes it comparatively easy for tourists and at the moment you do not need any test, vaccination or recovery proof if you are coming from many countries. You only need to create a QR code in advance online. This is an electronic PLF form that is scanned by health authority employees when you enter the country. As of July 15, 2021, people from Germany and Switzerland can enter Spain without any further requirements. In Austria, this applies to all federal states, except Tyrol and Carinthia. From the latter areas, a negative antigen or PCR test, proof of full vaccination or recovery must be presented. The QR code is always needed. In the following video, which was recorded at Palma de Mallorca airport, the current regulations for Germans, Austrians and Swiss are briefly explained and, in particular, tips are given on where to find the PLF form and on which website Spain provides entry information in many languages.
