Portugal: Relaxation of the corona rules

With the progress of vaccinations - the country has now provided more than half of the population with a vaccine - Portugal is lifting some CoV restrictions. "It is time to manage the pandemic according to the decisive criterion of vaccinations," said Prime Minister Antonio Costa. The curfew has been lifted nationwide since Sunday and the opening hours of restaurants, shops and other establishments are basically no longer restricted. While bars are open, discos remain closed. The government's further action depends on the success of the vaccination campaigns, as reisevor9.de reports. The government wants to have vaccinated 70 percent of the population by September. Then the obligation to wear masks outdoors will also be abolished. If a vaccination rate of 85 percent is reached by October, bars and nightclubs will also be reopened to vaccinated people and those who have tested negative.

German Airways announces legal action against Green Airlines

The German airline German Airways terminated its cooperation with the ticket seller Green Airlines on Monday. However, this does not prevent the criticized provider from continuing to sell tickets under German Airways flight numbers. This now has consequences, as the Zeitfracht subsidiary has announced legal action. German Airways has made it clear to Aviation Direct that it will no longer fly for Green Airlines. A spokesperson said: "German Airways terminated its contract with Green Airlines on Monday and is no longer flying on behalf of Green Airlines from Cologne via Paderborn to Sylt." But Green Airlines was still selling tickets with German Airways flight numbers on Tuesday morning. The Zeitfracht subsidiary was apparently not aware of this, as it thanked the company for informing it in its response to the inquiry. A spokesperson said: "We were surprised to note that these flights were still being advertised on the Green Airlines website on Tuesday. We will take all legal steps to stop this. The business relationship between German Airways and Green Airlines has ended." Selling flight tickets without knowing the "operating carrier" appears to be part of Green Airlines' business model. Initially, they used Air Alsie's flight numbers, but never signed a contract with them. They also sold tickets with Alk Air as the "operating carrier" at a time when the Boeing 737-300 had long since been withdrawn. Just Us Air was allowed to sell tickets for "phantom flights" under their flight numbers without a contract at all.

Lion Air sends 8.000 employees home

Due to further CoV restrictions, passenger numbers at the Indonesian low-cost carrier are plummeting. As a result, the airline is pulling the ripcord - and sending around 8.000 employees on compulsory leave. The company's cost structure had to be reduced to a minimum immediately. Anything else would have fatal consequences for Lion Air, as aero.de reports. Currently, only ten to 15 percent of the usual 1400 flights per day can be carried out. The airline employs a total of over 23.000 people, so the measure affects around 25 to 35 percent of the workforce.

Lufthansa Technik starts training future specialists

126 young people will begin training in an aircraft engineering, industrial or logistics-related profession in 2021. Even in difficult times, Lufthansa Technik wants to meet the future demand for highly trained specialists itself. 109 young people are starting their training in Hamburg this month, 16 in Frankfurt and one at the Munich location. Of the new training places, 109 are directly at Lufthansa Technik AG, the rest at Lufthansa Technik Logistik Services and LEOS. "We see training as a long-term instrument and this needs continuity," says Barbara Körner, Head of Training and Dual Students at Lufthansa Technik. "Only then can all interfaces involved, such as trainers, specialist departments, operational areas and vocational schools, provide optimal training quality. Against this background, Lufthansa Technik has consciously decided to maintain training activities. Only the number of places has been adjusted due to the crisis." This means that a total of around 650 young people are now in training or on a dual degree program at the Lufthansa Technik Group in Germany.
