Wizz Air postpones the Salzburg comeback again

The Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air has postponed its Salzburg comeback again, to the 2022 summer flight schedule. Most recently, St. Petersburg was announced for mid-December 2021, but once again nothing will come of it. Wizz Air added the destination Salzburg to its route network at short notice in the summer of last year. A very extensive route network was announced at the time, but it withdrew after just a few flights. The additions to Kyiv-Shuljany and St. Petersburg announced for September 2020 have not yet taken place and are being postponed at regular intervals. The Balkan routes offered last year have been completely removed from the plan. These are not to be reactivated. Varna was actually supposed to be served from June 2021, but a few days before the announced first flight, Wizz Air backed out and postponed the addition by a whole year. Kyiv-Shuljany and St. Petersburg are postponed at regular intervals by a few weeks or months. This time, the Ukrainian capital is scheduled for March 28, 2022 with two weekly rotations. Flights to St. Petersburg are now scheduled to begin on March 27, 2022, four times a week. Varna is scheduled to begin on June 13, 2022 with two weekly rotations. Given the many postponements, it remains to be seen whether the new dates will hold this time. Wizz Air currently has no flights planned for the 2021/22 winter flight schedule to/from Salzburg. The carrier was recently said to be able to serve some ski routes from the United Kingdom. So far, however, Wizz Air UK has said that it has no corresponding plans for Salzburg.

Vienna: ANA comeback is still on hold

The Japanese All Nippon Airways is once again postponing its comeback at the Austrian Vienna Airport. After several postponements, the Tokyo route was to be reactivated at the start of the 2021/22 winter flight schedule period. Once again, the date has not been met. The ANA route has been on pause since the start of the corona pandemic in Europe. The dates for reactivation have been repeatedly postponed. The comparatively strict entry and quarantine regulations in Japan are crucial here. These are virtually impossible for non-citizens to meet. A representative of All Nippon Airways told Aviation Direct that the question of whether the Vienna route will be resumed is not even an issue. It is more a question of "when". They are hoping that Japan will relax its travel rules. ANA is currently planning to fly between Tokyo and Vienna from January 2022. Initially, they are planning three weekly rotations, which are to be carried out on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. However, the carrier cannot give a XNUMX% guarantee that this date will be met. Much continues to depend on the further development of the corona pandemic and the associated entry and quarantine regulations. Therefore, we will have to wait and see when ANA makes its comeback at Austria's largest airport.
