USA opens borders with Canada and Mexico to vaccinated people

The US government wants to lift entry restrictions at the land borders with Canada and Mexico for people who have been vaccinated against coronavirus. The relaxations should take effect in November and also apply to ferry crossings. Anyone who can prove that they have been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus can also enter the USA for non-essential purposes, such as visiting friends and family or for tourism. In a further step, the regulation will also be extended to essential travel from the beginning of January 2022, and in these cases, full vaccination will then also be a condition for entry, as the ORF reports. Until then, affected people such as truck drivers, students and healthcare workers will have enough time to get vaccinated. Last month, the USA had already announced that it would lift the months-long entry restrictions on international air traffic in November for vaccinated people from the EU and Great Britain and other countries, among others. The extensive entry ban was imposed by then-US President Donald Trump at the start of the pandemic in early 2020.

USA: Boeing introduces mandatory vaccination

The US aircraft manufacturer Boeing is introducing a mandatory vaccination against Covid-19 for the entire workforce working in the United States of America. The company justifies the decision with the decree of US President Joe Biden, which states that from December 8, 2021, government contracts will only be awarded to companies whose employees are fully vaccinated. Boeing stated, among other things, that by this date, US employees must present their vaccination certificates. Anyone who cannot be vaccinated for medical or religious reasons must also provide proof of this. Boeing reserves the right to take further protective measures for this group of people.

Air Baltic: Compulsory vaccination for the workforce

Following Swiss and Wizz Air, Air Baltic is also introducing compulsory vaccination against Covid-19 in Europe. Until now, this was only made a condition for new hires. The existing workforce must now also prove that they have been fully vaccinated against Covid. The carrier explains, among other things, that 87 percent of employees are currently fully vaccinated. The remaining employees must prove by November 15, 2021 that they have received at least the first vaccination. There will then be a transition period for receiving the second jab. How Air Baltic will deal with employees who do not want to be vaccinated is currently unclear. For competitors such as Swiss, this may lead to termination of the employment contract. Legally, compulsory vaccination is also controversial in Latvia.

Flyr secures six Boeing 737 Max 8s

The Norwegian startup Flyr launched this year with the Boeing 737-800 aircraft. The first 737 Max 8s are to join the fleet next year. These are leased aircraft. FRA: The positive passenger development continues in September

Frankfurt Airport handled around 3,1 million passengers in September. This corresponds to an increase of 169,1 percent compared to the weak month of the previous year, as the airport operator Fraport announced in a press release. The reason for the positive development was still mainly tourist traffic. As in August, passenger volumes reached almost half of the pre-crisis level. In the first nine months of the current year, passenger volumes were around 15,8 million passengers. This corresponded to a decrease of 2,2 percent compared to the same period in 2020 and a decrease of 70,8 percent compared to 2019. Cargo volume increased again, achieving a significant increase of 13,4 percent to 188.177 tons (plus 7,7 percent compared to September 2019). The number of flight movements rose by 66,1 percent year-on-year to 28.135 takeoffs and landings. The total maximum take-off weights grew by 61,5 percent to almost 1,8 million tons. The positive development in passenger numbers also continued in the international portfolio. With the exception of the Chinese airport Xi'an, the Group airports achieved significant increases, in some cases of over 2020 percent, albeit based on the sharply reduced air traffic in September 2019. Compared to the same month in XNUMX, the Group airports continued to record predominantly declines.

Volocopter's cargo drone makes its first public flight

Volocopter's electric heavy-lift drone VoloDrone successfully completed its first public flight today at the ITS World Congress 2021. The approximately 3-minute test flight took off at 15:02 p.m. in the homePORT Hamburg and reached a maximum flight altitude of 22 meters. For the logistics simulation, the electric cargo drone was equipped with a charging box between the landing gear. The ground team first loaded this with a load the size of a Euro pallet. PAD: Sun Express flies to Antalya
