From November: Lufthansa will again connect Lake Constance Airport with Frankfurt twice a day

The Lake Constance Airport is connected to Lufthansa's global route network via the Star Alliance hub in Frankfurt. The entire region and in particular the economy with the global companies based here can reach destinations all over the world via the hub connection. "We are very pleased about the resumption of the second daily frequency. This will enable many worldwide connections again. At the end of January 2022, Lufthansa's flight offer will be expanded again so that a day trip with a longer stay will be possible. We are in close contact with Lufthansa to further develop the connection. The short distances at Friedrichshafen Airport and the uncomplicated processes save business travelers valuable time," says Claus-Dieter Wehr, Managing Director of Lake Constance Airport. Business trips will remain relevant in the future because virtual meetings cannot permanently replace person-to-person communication in many situations and technicians can only look after the production facilities on site. The offer now also enables private travelers to have excellent daily connections to many interesting destinations in Germany, Europe and around the world.

Reaction: Vienna Airport accuses Greenpeace of “crude propaganda”

Austria's largest airport, Vienna-Schwechat, has responded to a press release from the environmental organisation Greenpeace and contradicts it diametrically. In the headline of the media statement, the airport even speaks of "crude propaganda". The climate issue is generally very sensitive and a wide variety of views are expressed. For this reason, Aviation Direct is bringing the information from Greenpeace and Vienna Airport AG in two separate articles that appear at the same time. In order to offer readers the greatest possible decision-making options, the articles were also edited by different editors from the Aviation Direct team. The environmental organisation's point of view can be read at this link. In its media statement, Vienna Airport AG refers to a current study by Eurocontrol that was carried out this year. This concludes, among other things, that short-haul flights are "often indispensable feeder flights for medium and long-haul connections". Furthermore: "One of the key statements is that these cannot currently be replaced by rail because in many cases there is no or only insufficient rail service. The necessary railway expansion will not only take decades, but will also cost billions." Furthermore, Vienna Airport AG argues on the basis of the Eurocontrol study that short-haul flights make up 24,1 percent of all connections in Europe. The share of carbon dioxide emissions is therefore 3,8 percent. Globally, aviation is responsible for 2,7 percent of carbon dioxide emissions. In Europe, it is responsible for 0,52 percent and in Austria for 0,16 percent. Vienna Airport points to high transfer share Austria's largest airport also states that the transfer share is very high on many short-haul routes. The Munich route is cited as an example. It writes under

Greenpeace: 80 percent of short-haul flights could be replaced by rail

A new international report looks at how short-haul flights can be replaced by rail connections and shows how CO2 can be reduced. The climate issue is generally very sensitive and there are a wide variety of views. For this reason, Aviation Direct is bringing together the information from Greenpeace and Vienna Airport AG in two separate articles that will appear at the same time. In order to offer readers the greatest possible choice, the articles were also edited by different editors from the Aviation Direct team. The viewpoint of Vienna Airport AG can be read at this link. The environmental organization Greenpeace has today published a new report that examines how many short-haul flights in Europe can be replaced by trains. The surprising result: for around 30 percent of all short-haul flights, there are train connections under six hours, and for 18 percent, there are direct night train connections. The data for Austria is even more encouraging: in this country, there are direct night train connections for 53 percent of all top 30 short-haul flights within the EU - an absolute top figure in Europe. Including some fast day trains and night trains with one change, there is a good rail alternative for 80 percent of all Austrian short-haul flights. "Together with the direct night trains, it would already be possible to comfortably switch to the train for almost half of all short-haul flights in Europe," says Greenpeace transport spokesman Herwig Schuster. "We are therefore calling for these flights to be banned." However, in order to completely phase out short-haul flights in Europe, Greenpeace is also calling for improvements to rail. "The rail must be made significantly cheaper than the plane," says Schuster, "and, especially in Eastern and Southeastern Europe, the trains must be significantly faster and more frequent.

ZRH: EASA emergency exercise carried out

Yesterday, the emergency exercise "MC FLY 21" took place at Zurich Airport under the supervision of the Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA). The EU and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) stipulate that the entire emergency organization is exercised every two years at international airports with regular scheduled flights. In the scenario of this year's emergency exercise, those responsible based it on realistic events. The exercise involved an aircraft colliding with a drone on final approach. There were several injuries. In addition to the rear organizations, all emergency services were particularly challenged in this year's emergency exercise. In total, around 400 trained people and around 160 extras took part in the exercise. The EASA emergency exercise took place during ongoing flight operations. The Zurich cantonal police, Zurich Protection & Rescue, Swiss, several external rescue services and Zurich Airport AG all exercised. At the same time, the airport's rear emergency organization - the crisis team, crisis information and care services - was called in and practiced. The emergency telephone for relatives, which was set up specifically for emergencies, was also put into operation. The results are now being evaluated and will be incorporated into a detailed overall assessment. As always, the findings from the final report should contribute to further optimizing the emergency organization.

Error in job advertisement: Wizz Air was looking for staff for the Győr base

So far, Wizz Air has not flown to the Hungarian airport Győr-Pér, but the carrier recently advertised job advertisements looking for staff. The budget airline has dismissed this, saying, among other things, that an error had crept in. A few years ago, the runway at the Hungarian airport Győr-Pér was extended. Rumors quickly arose that a base for the budget airline Wizz Air could be set up at the airport, which is mainly used by Audi. The carrier recently advertised job advertisements explicitly mentioned "Base Györ". Possible scheduled flights from the Hungarian airport are seen as a serious competitor due to its proximity to Vienna and Bratislava. However, according to Wizz Air, this will not happen, as a spokeswoman for the budget airline told Aviation Direct that an error had crept into the job advertisements. "Wizz Air is not opening a base in Györ. Only a general recruitment day was held," said the media officer. The job advertisement in question stated that flight attendants were being sought for the new Györ base.

Romania puts Cobrex Trans on the ground

The airline Cobrex Trans, founded in 1994, had its AOC and operating license withdrawn by the Romanian civil aviation authority. The carrier's fleet last consisted of a Boeing 737-300 and a Eurocopter AS 365N1. The company specialized in providing ACMI and charter services and in the past also flew from Germany for various airlines, including Germania. Originally, it only operated helicopters before the first and only Boeing 2016-737 was added to its fleet in 300. Cobrex Trans was also supposed to fly for the Romanian branch of HiSky. However, this did not actually happen, but according to reports, numerous employees from Cobrex Trans are said to have switched to HiSky. The Romanian aviation authority did not provide any detailed information on the withdrawal of the AOC and operating license. A routine review of financial performance would have been carried out.

HiFly Malta flies with Airbus A330 for FlyPop

The first Airbus A330-343 destined for the British startup FlyPop will be registered as 9H-POP on the AOC of HiFly Malta. The aircraft in question, which was previously in the service of Cebu Pacific, arrived at Luqa Airport a few days ago as VP-CUF. Maintenance work is currently being carried out at the Safi Aviation Park, which is located on the grounds of Malta International Airport. This primarily affects the cabin. On October 26, 2021, the long-haul jet was pushed out of the hangar and will be transferred to Portugal. According to current information, HiFly Malta is to operate two Airbus A330s for FlyPop. ITA Airways relies on “double” Premium Eco

The Italian state carrier ITA Airways plans to operate long-haul flights with 13 Airbus A350-900s and ten Airbus A330neos. According to company boss Fabio Lazzerini, the aircraft will have four classes of service. These are called Business, Premium, Comfort and Economy. This creates two classes that will be in the Premium Economy range. The difference between Premium and Comfort is that Comfort Class will be closer to Economy than Business. During the presentation of the ITA Airways brand, Fabio Lazzerini announced the aforementioned classes of service. However, this is a medium-term project, as the initial flights will be in the configuration adopted from Alitalia. The existing aircraft will gradually be converted and repainted in the new design. Lazzerini also emphasized once again that the company is relying on a dual hub concept in Rome-Fiumicino and Milan-Linate. At both airports, they cannot afford to lose market share to other carriers. At Milan's inner-city airport, the predecessor Alitalia lost numerous take-off and landing rights, which were taken over by Easyjet, Blue Air and Wizz Air, among others. Ryanair also got its chance, but decided not to take off from Linate.
