Emirates presents the first recycled items from the decommissioned A380

The first A380 (A6-EDA) ever delivered to Emirates is currently being dismantled for parts recycling. The initiative aims to minimise landfill waste. Emirates is working with Falcon Aircraft Recycling and its partner Wings Craft to achieve this. The two companies dismantle the decommissioned A380 aircraft in order to upcycle or recycle the components. The range of items on offer is varied: a coffee table made from an A380 main wheel, a clock made from a wing fuel panel or the gold-plated Emirates logo from the First Class cabin. Larger items are also available, such as the A380 lounge bar or the 24-metre-high aircraft tail featuring the United Arab Emirates flag. “The dismantling of the aircraft at our facility is still ongoing. We are following the strictest regulatory guidelines and applying best practices to minimise waste and environmental impact. The A380 is a special aircraft that deserves a meaningful second life. The Emirates A380 has so many iconic features that there will be demand for bespoke one-offs. We are working closely with Wings Craft to bring more one-offs to market as new parts and materials become available," said Andrew Tonks, Director of Falcon Aircraft Recycling.

Boeing: 787 deliveries could start again soon

The US aircraft manufacturer Boeing says it is close to resuming deliveries of the 787 "Dreamliner". The delivery of the aircraft was stopped due to production errors. The final decision on the delivery of the 787 rests with the responsible authorities, as the ORF reports. The manager responsible for sales, Ihssane Mounir, confirmed at the Dubai Air Show that the company is sticking to the already delayed delivery of the 777X passenger jet in 2023. In addition, sales talks are advanced for the cargo version of the 777X. The "Dreamliner", launched ten years ago as the long-haul jet of the future, has been causing problems for Boeing for some time. This year the company had to stop deliveries due to production problems and reduce production. In July it was said that further inspections and repairs were necessary on a number of 787 aircraft that had not yet been delivered to customers. In February, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) ordered inspections of around 222 "Dreamliners" because there was a risk of damage to decompression panels that separate the passenger area. According to the authority, the defect could have fatal consequences, for example if air freight caught fire. Boeing then expected to resume deliveries in November at the earliest. In view of the "Dreamliner" problems - and the two crashes involving the 737 Max model - the aircraft manufacturer is being increasingly scrutinized by the FAA. One of the production problems is that airlines sometimes find waste in newly delivered aircraft.

Pilatus presents the PC-7 MKX

With modern avionics, paired with a proven airframe and the latest training tools, Pilatus Aircraft has modernized the tried-and-tested Pilatus PC-7 turboprop trainer into a smart basic trainer. The Swiss aircraft manufacturer Pilatus Aircraft has so far built and delivered over 600 units of its PC-7 training aircraft to customers. At the Dubai Airshow, which began yesterday in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Pilatus has now presented a modernized version of the turboprop trainer. This not only involves upgrading the aircraft model to modern systems, but also embedding the aircraft in an intelligent training environment with a simulator, virtual reality training tools, cockpit camera and mission debriefing system. Pilatus therefore also calls the aircraft a "smart basic trainer". A state-of-the-art cockpit with intelligent avionics is the heart of the brand new PC-7 MKX, says the aircraft manufacturer. The two crew members will find the latest generation of high-resolution displays in the cockpit. According to the manufacturer, this allows student pilots to easily enter the world of modern avionics while simultaneously training essential flying skills. In addition to the basic avionics configuration, customers can also choose from various options for expanding their capabilities, such as an SVS (Synthetic Vision System), a Traffic Advisory System or an autopilot. The avionics can be operated conventionally using switches and buttons, but also using the touchscreen functionality. The primary flight display in the middle allows the selection of different flight modes, while the right and left displays are used for navigation, entering flight plan data and providing an overview of various aircraft systems, according to Pilatus Aircraft.

ALC wants to buy 111 aircraft from Airbus

At the Dubai Air Show, the European aircraft manufacturer Airbus was able to land another major order. The Air Lease Corporation signed a letter of intent to purchase 111 aircraft. These are 25 A220-300s, 55 A321neos, 20 321XLRs, four A330neos and seven A350Fs. In the next few months, the LoI is to be converted into a firm order. ALC currently has 496 open orders with Airbus. On Sunday, Airbus sold a total of 255 aircraft from the A321neo series to Indigo Partners. Of these, 27 A321XLRs and 75 A321neos will go to the low-cost airline Wizz Air. With the ALC LoI, the European manufacturer is now facing the second major order that was communicated at the Dubai Air Show. "This new order announcement is the culmination of many months of hard work and commitment by both organizations to optimize and refine the size and scope of this major aircraft transaction in light of the rapidly growing global demand from airlines for ALC to modernize their jet fleets," said Steven F. Udvar-Hazy, Executive Chairman of Air Lease Corporation. "After lengthy and detailed consultations with several dozen of our strategic airline customers around the world, we are focusing this comprehensive order on the most desirable and in-demand aircraft types in the A220, A321neo, A330neo and A350 families. Gategroup seeks state aid in Germany

The catering company Gategroup is applying to the German Economic Stabilization Fund for state aid. It took over the European business of the Lufthansa subsidiary LSG only towards the end of last year. The news magazine "Der Spiegel" reports that Gategroup's application to the German Economic Stabilization Fund is based, among other things, on the fact that the aviation catering sector has suffered "immense losses that cannot be fully compensated for by its own efforts." Gategroup was already present in Germany before taking over the LSG locations. Its brand name Gate Gourmet is better known. Der Spiegel writes, among other things, that the German Ministry of Economic Affairs is "astonished" by Gategroup's application. The amount is said to be in the double-digit millions of euros. Whether Germany will lend a helping hand to the catering company or not will be shown by developments in the next few days.
