Frankfurt: German Airways flies for BA Cityflyer

On behalf of the British Airways subsidiary BA Cityflyer, German Airways will fly an Embraer 5 on the Frankfurt-London City route from December 2021, 190. The wet lease contract provides for up to three daily rotations on Monday to Thursday. In a cover letter addressed to passengers, British Airways explains German Airways' use of ACMI for operational reasons. There are currently no plans for the German airline to fly on other routes for BA Cityflyer. The cooperation between the two carriers is the revival of a long-standing collaboration, as they repeatedly flew for BA Cityflyer under the old name WDL. At that time, the BAe 146 aircraft type was used. Now they are flying with Embraer 190s for the BA subsidiary, which is itself a major Embraer operator.

Example of fast ferries: Gozo is planning an air taxi service to Luqa

For many years, the Gozo Heliport (GZM) has been in a kind of deep sleep. Non-stop helicopter flights to/from Luqa are long gone. There have been repeated attempts to reactivate them, but so far nothing has happened. Now Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri is making a new attempt. The core of the plan is the extension of the ultra-short runway of the Gozo Heliport. This is to be extended within the existing boundaries of the airfield. The aim is to allow small aircraft to take off and land. Camilleri wants to set up regular flights to/from Luqa, following the example of the fast ferries between the capital and Mgarr. He also hopes that flight schools will settle at the heliport. However, it is not expected that turboprop aircraft will be able to take off and land on the short airstrip of the Gozo Heliport in the future. The plans envisage that small, propeller-driven private aircraft will be able to take off and land. The planned air taxi service, which is to be put out to tender shortly, could be implemented with 9-seaters, for example. In any case, the green light was given in parliament for the Ministry's plans for Gozo. At the moment, the heliport is a kind of de facto lost place. The small terminal has not been used for flight operations for many years and is not in a particularly attractive condition. The Corona pandemic has led to a bit more life on the site, as the Ministry of Health is using the forecourt and parts of the small terminal for a Corona test station. Aviation.Direct has provided a portrait of the Gozo Heliport at this link. Here you can find a photo report about the lesser-known Comino Heliport, which was once used for the transport of pigs.

Consumer advocate Kolba warns of cancellation fees from the hotel industry

Austrian consumer advocate Peter Kolba assumes that the 2G regulation in the hotel industry is not a reason for a free cancellation of winter holidays. The lawyer refers, among other things, to the industry's general terms and conditions, which provide for cancellation fees. For this very reason, Kolba appeals for a free cancellation option to be agreed upon in writing when booking. This can then be invoked if necessary. Otherwise, according to the consumer advocate, cancellation fees could arise. Kolba quotes from the industry's general terms and conditions, which many hoteliers use. According to these, the following cancellation rates are provided: 40 percent up to one month before arrival, 70 percent up to one week before arrival, and 90 percent of the package price can be charged by the hotelier in the last week before arrival. "Anyone who books during a pandemic cannot invoke the loss of the basis of the transaction due to an unreasonable and unexpected event," says Peter Kolba, chairman of the Consumer Protection Association (VSV). "In 2020, many hoteliers in Ischgl charged cancellation fees to guests who left early or canceled, and at the same time applied for state aid." The VSV chairman therefore recommends the following: "Only book at short notice if the Corona situation allows it. Agree in writing with the hotelier that you can cancel free of charge in the event of restrictions due to Corona. If you fall ill with Corona and therefore have to cancel, you should claim compensation from your travel cancellation insurance."

B777 vaccination campaign: Only 200 out of 300 vaccinations were picked up

On Saturday, interested parties were able to get vaccinated in an Austrian Airlines Boeing 777. The aircraft had capacity for 300 vaccinations, but only around 200 of them could be administered. The result: the initiators were left with around a third. Nevertheless, the vaccination day is described as a "complete success". The fact that the Lower Austrian Red Cross, Vienna Airport AG and Austrian Airlines AG joined forces and organized an extraordinary vaccination campaign in a long-haul aircraft is, in principle, an absolutely commendable and good thing. However, there was still about a third of room for improvement in terms of the optimal use of supply and demand of the "capacity". One could therefore have spoken of a "smashing" success if at least all 300 syringes had been administered. Nevertheless, almost 200 people were vaccinated and that is a small but important piece of the puzzle in combating the pandemic. Of course, airport board member Julian Jäger and AUA boss Alexis von Hoensbroech also received a dose of the Biontech/Pfizer vaccine. The two managers set a good example, as neither Flughafen Wien AG nor Austrian Airlines AG have a mandatory vaccination. Both companies rely on voluntary participation by employees and have so far achieved respectable vaccination rates. "We are overwhelmed that our offer of vaccination has been accepted by so many people and that with this campaign we have not only been able to offer a unique experience, but also make a contribution to combating the pandemic. Now it is time to continue consistently on this path, because only a rapidly increasing vaccination rate will give us the freedoms

Hand luggage in comparison: Condor allows less than Ryanair and Wizz Air

According to the current planning status, no fewer than six airlines want to match each other on the Vienna-Heraklion route in the 2022 summer flight schedule. These are Corendon Europe, Condor, Austrian Airlines, Wizz Air, Ryanair and Aegean Airlines. The products are almost identical, but there are differences in detail. The hand luggage regulations of these six carriers are examined in more detail in this article. In order to be able to compare, the cheapest fare class is used. These do not include any checked baggage for all providers. Almost all carriers also have more expensive fares, which may include, for example, check-in baggage. This fact was not taken into account in the overview below. Condor with the most customer-unfriendly hand luggage regulations Whether all six airlines will actually fly between Vienna and Heraklion in summer 2022 will become clear in the next few months. At the moment, there are legitimate doubts about this, because the offer currently bookable with the six airlines is an obvious oversupply that could lead to ruinous prices. True to the motto “can it be a little less?”, Condor is bringing the worst hand luggage regulations to Austria with its Vienna comeback. In the cheapest economy fare, you are only allowed to take a mini bag with the maximum dimensions of 40x30x10 centimeters. The weight is irrelevant. This even undercuts the low-cost airlines Ryanair and Wizz Air. For example, if you want to take a trolley with you that can be a maximum of 55x40x20 centimeters and weigh eight kilograms, you have to pay for it. The prices are dynamic and start at ten euros. There is no official upper limit. Different maximum dimensions for Ryanair and Wizz Air Wizz Air
