Slovenia changes quarantine rules upon entry

Changed entry regulations have been in force in Slovenia since today. According to the latest regulation, home quarantine, if ordered upon entry, can no longer be terminated prematurely. Previously, the seven-day quarantine could only be ended after five days with a negative PCR test. Entry into the neighboring country without subsequent quarantine is possible if the 3G rule is met. These regulations remain the same as before. A negative PCR test must not be older than 48 hours, and the antigen test is valid for 24 hours. The rules for vaccinated and recovered people also remain unchanged. This is reported by ORF.

Cruises continue to be problematic corona spinners

For cruise operators, corona cases on board are becoming an increasingly serious problem, which has already repeatedly led to the cancellation or termination of trips. But disembarkation of those who have tested positive is also not easy, because many countries do not want to import cases in this way. Most recently, for example, the Mein Schiff 1, operated by Tui Cruises, was denied shore leave due to numerous corona cases. In concrete terms, this means that the cruise ship was allowed to enter the ports, but no one was allowed to go ashore. The shipping company therefore decided to cancel the trip early and order the Mein Schiff 1 back to Bremerhaven. The shipping company Tui Cruises is now taking an unusual measure, because it no longer wants to allow people who have been in cruise destinations immediately beforehand to board. It is not entirely clear how exactly this is to be checked. It is primarily reliant on honest information from passengers. The shipping company MSC disembarked around 60 travelers who had tested positive in the port of Palma de Mallorca. According to a report in the Mallorca newspaper, the authorities welcomed the ship with a "grand gala" because the jetty was cordoned off by the police. Those who tested positive and those who had been in contact with the ship were said to have been taken to the Belver quarantine hotel in ambulances. Some shipping companies have already cancelled trips altogether and plan to only allow people who can prove they have had a booster vaccination against Covid-2022 on board from mid-February 19.

Due to a bullet hole: Aegean Airlines suspends its line to Lebanon

The reason: After landing in Beirut, pilots discovered a possible bullet hole in the cockpit area of their Airbus. The authorities there are also playing down the incident. For this reason and the associated danger to their own crew, the airline is stopping flights to the country. Apart from the external damage - a bullet hole below the rear cockpit window on the left side - not much is known about the incident. The Lebanese media are putting forward an unusual theory: According to them, it is not unusual in the country for so-called celebratory shots to be fired during celebrations. The projectiles easily reach heights of 3.000 meters - and are therefore also dangerous for aircraft. The Lebanese authorities, however, want to hear nothing of this. According to them, the Airbus was probably damaged before arriving in Beirut.

2021: Frankfurt Airport counts almost 25 million passengers

Frankfurt Airport has emerged somewhat from its Corona low in 2021. Thanks to increased travel demand in the summer and the opening of the USA in the fall, Germany's largest airport counted around 24,8 million passengers for the whole year, almost a third more than in the first Corona year of 2020, the operating group announced on Monday. As expected, the volume was at the upper end of the forecast issued by the management board, but still almost two-thirds lower than before the pandemic: In 2019, almost 70,6 million passengers were handled at the airport - more than ever before. In December, there was a stronger recovery from the crisis - despite new travel restrictions due to the Omicron variant of the coronavirus. Fraport counted 2,7 million passengers, a good three times as many as a year earlier, but still 44 percent fewer than in December 2019. Things went much better in the cargo business, which is experiencing a real boom as a result of the pandemic and its consequences. In 2021 as a whole, Frankfurt Airport handled around 2,27 million tons, almost 19 percent more than in 2020 and almost 9 percent more than in 2019. Despite the challenges, Stefan Schulte, CEO of Fraport AG, is optimistic about the future: "The situation will remain highly dynamic in 2022. Nobody can predict exactly how the pandemic will develop in the coming months. The associated and often unfortunately inconsistent travel restrictions will continue to place a great deal of demand on the entire aviation industry. Despite these uncertainties, we are optimistic about the future and expect demand to pick up again significantly from spring onwards."

Defeat in court: couple wanted compensation for quarantine after vacation

In Germany, if you return from a vacation and have to go into quarantine, are you entitled to compensation for pain and suffering? No, decided the Frankfurt Regional Court under the file number 2-04 O 165/21. In spring 2021, a married couple went on vacation in what was then a risk area and took a PCR test abroad, which was negative. Nevertheless, they had to go into quarantine in the Federal Republic of Germany. The two took the matter to court, arguing that they had suffered psychological problems due to the isolation. They therefore demanded appropriate compensation for pain and suffering. However, the Frankfurt Regional Court dismissed the lawsuit, which the German Bar Association had pointed out. Among other things, the judges justified the decision by saying that the quarantine was justified as a protective measure. The negative PCR test was classified as a mere snapshot and since the vacation spot was classified as a risk area according to the Infection Protection Act, there would have been a risk of infection for the general public.

Ukraine: Air Ocean Airlines already on the ground

After less than two months, the Ukrainian airline Air Ocean Airlines has already had to cease flight operations. Officially, it is said that this will only be a break until the beginning of March 2022. The carrier's fleet most recently consisted of two Antonov An-148s and an An-24 operated by Motor Sich Airlines under a wet lease agreement. From Kyiv-Zhulyany, the domestic destinations Lviv, Kharkiv, Chernivtsi and Zaporizhia were offered. There were also decentralized routes between the cities mentioned and connecting flights via Kyiv. The company only started a few weeks ago. But the reason why Air Ocean Airlines has ceased flight operations - at least temporarily - is interesting. They do not explain that they have capacity or sales problems, but claim that the takeover of additional aircraft is delayed and that they therefore have to take a temporary break. Competition within Ukraine is quite tough. On some routes, up to four carriers compete from Kyiv or Borispil. A brief overview in this report.
