Vienna: Confiscated chameleons have had offspring

Schönbrunn Zoo can look forward to the offspring of rare chameleon species. The parents were confiscated by customs officials at Vienna-Schwechat Airport in January of the previous year and handed over to the Austrian zoo for care. On January 20, 2021, a 56-year-old man was caught at Austria's largest airport trying to smuggle strictly protected and rare chameleons into Austria. According to a statement by the customs authorities at the time, the animals were in poor condition. The small reptiles were immediately handed over to Schönbrunn Zoo for care. The zoo was able to successfully rejuvenate and stabilize the 74 species-protected chameleons. Schönbrunn Zoo can now even report that there are now offspring. "All of the rare chameleon species have now laid eggs, and the young of three species have already hatched," said a zoo official. The confiscation by customs was obviously the best solution for the chameleons, because they seem to feel so comfortable in the Schönbrunn Zoo that they are now having offspring. According to its own information, the Vienna Zoo is one of only two facilities that has young animals of rare chameleon species. Shortly after birth, these are only about one centimeter long, excluding the tail.

Eurowings Europe is reflagged to Malta

The Lufthansa Group is following the example of competitors such as Ryanair and is setting up a new flight operation in Malta. It will be called Eurowings Europe Ltd. and will take off with a Maltese AOC. This is stated in an internal circular sent to the workforce. It should also happen quite quickly, as the new airline is scheduled to take off as early as the 2022/23 winter flight schedule. Aircraft will then be gradually re-registered under the Maltese AOC. The justification for the "reflagging" to Malta is reminiscent of Malta Air and Lauda Europe: they want to avoid complicated double taxation for employees. The Austrian Eurowings Europe GmbH is the first to be affected. Its current flight services are to be taken over by the Maltese Eurowings Europe Limited. However, a larger solution is also possible, as the Malta branch would also enable it to take over Eurowings Germany's flight activities on a large scale. The consequence of this would be that previous collective agreements would no longer be applicable and Eurowings Europe Ltd. could start from scratch without any German collective agreements. However, there is still only talk of the bases abroad being converted to the Maltese AOC. This is exactly what Eurowings is trying to dispel in the circular. There will be little change for the employees, as the bases, contracts and so on will remain the same. However, the administration of Eurowings Europe GmbH is in trouble, as it will actually be needed in Malta in the future. It is currently being examined whether they can work for the new company in a kind of "home office in the office" from Schwechat. The decision has been made

Milan-Linate: German Airways flies two E190s for ITA Airways

The German airline German Airways will fly two Embraer 2022 regional jets on behalf of ITA Airways from the end of March 190. The aircraft will be used to London City, Luxembourg and Geneva, among others. German Airways will operate the two Embraer 190s from Milan-Linate for ITA Airways. At these airports and destinations, profitability and operating conditions are guaranteed by smaller aircraft. This also explains the choice of the Embraer E190 by German Airways. The aircraft type is not currently in the ITA Airways fleet. This is the first long-term wet lease contract that the young Italian airline has concluded in its company history. The Embraer 190s previously owned by Alitalia - operated by Cityliner - were not taken over. "We are very pleased that ITA is working with us. We can benefit from the excellent reputation that we have worked hard to build: we are known as a very reliable service provider with a great deal of know-how in the industry. With ITA, another major European airline is joining our customer base, which already includes renowned European airlines,” said German Airways CEO Maren Wolters.

Lufthansa: No solution for Germanwings pilots yet

The Lufthansa Group is currently only recording around half the number of passengers it had in the first quarter of 2019. Nevertheless, there are clear signs of recovery and the airline intends to refrain from making pilots redundant. Lufthansa has laid off pilots through a so-called voluntary program. The carrier also wants to offer copilots the opportunity to retire voluntarily. Collective part-time agreements can also resolve the existing overstaffing. Lufthansa is continuing to communicate with the social partners on this issue. Looking ahead, Lufthansa Airlines is refraining from making cockpit personnel redundant. "We have worked hard in recent weeks and months to avert operational layoffs in the cockpit of our core brand - despite the serious effects of the pandemic. It is a great success that we have succeeded in doing this," explains Chief Human Resources Officer Michael Niggemann. Shortly after the start of the corona pandemic, Germanwings flight operations were closed. Lufthansa explains that some of the pilots can still switch to Eurowings until March 31, 2022. 80 more will be offered jobs at Lufthansa in Munich. Solutions are currently being sought for the remaining pilots in order to offer them the prospect of continued employment in an existing or newly established Lufthansa Group flight operation. The global recovery in demand in air traffic will lead to significantly better prospects for jobs in the cockpit in the long term - within and outside the Lufthansa Group. The new Lufthansa Group flight school will therefore start training young pilots in summer 2022 under the umbrella of Lufthansa Aviation Training. The approximately 24-month

Lessors collect entire Bees Airline fleet

Bees Airline confirmed that the entire fleet had to be flown out of Ukraine on the instructions of the owners of the four Boeing 737-800s. The contracts were not terminated, however, and the carrier will be allowed to use the aircraft again as soon as the situation in connection with the Russia-Ukraine crisis has eased. A date for the return of the four Boeing 737-800s to Kyiv-Zhulyany cannot yet be given. This is currently not foreseeable. Bees Airline: "We ask passengers to understand possible flight delays and flight schedule changes. We are making every effort to stabilize the situation and to operate all flights according to the planned flight schedule." The carrier is now trying to organize ACMI aircraft. The carrier is aiming to join forces with competitors Ukraine International, Windrose, Motor Sich Airlines, SkyUp Airlines and AirOcean Airlines. They will help each other wherever possible to ensure that as many flights as possible can be operated. Bees Airlines will initially use ACMI services from Ukraine International and Windrose. For operational reasons, almost all Kiev flights are now temporarily being relocated from the inner-city Shuljany Airport to the far-away Borispil Airport. Aviation.Direct has introduced the airline Bees Airline in more detail in the “Trip Reports” section. Air Ocean Airlines, which recently had problems with the AOC, is now also allowed to fly again. The Antonov An-148 with the registration UR-CTC is already being flown on behalf of Bees Airline. The UR-CTF will also be joining them shortly. Motor Sich Airlines will also be helping out with aircraft such as the Antonov An-24 in the next few days.
