Czech Republic lifts CoV entry rules for EU citizens

At the end of last week, the Czech Republic lifted all entry restrictions for travelers from EU countries. This means that entry from Austria is now permitted again without having to provide proof of a corona test, vaccination or recovery. In addition to Austria and all other EU countries, travelers from Andorra, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway, San Marino, Switzerland and the Vatican also benefit from the relaxed entry rules in the Czech Republic. They are also no longer required to register upon entry. Only people who want to enter Austria's neighboring country from a third country are still subject to the 3G regulation and must provide proof of vaccination or recovery or a negative corona test. Verdi strike: Hamburg cancels all departures again

At Hamburg Airport, all departures will be cancelled on March 22, 2022 due to the security staff strike organised by Verdi. The airport announced that security checks will be closed. For this reason, no passenger flights can be operated from the Hanseatic city on Tuesday. Arrivals are still possible, however. It can be assumed that not many airlines will operate their connections one-way. Hamburg Airport is therefore requesting that all passengers who have bookings from/to Hamburg for Tuesday and/or Wednesday contact their airline and clarify how to proceed. Last week, the security staff strike in the Free and Hanseatic City had a particularly severe impact. All security lines were closed and therefore no departures could be carried out. Hamburg expects that around 18.000 travellers will be affected tomorrow, Tuesday. Verdi has also called on security staff at other German commercial airports to stop work, so that considerable restrictions on air traffic can be expected.

Thailand no longer requires a CoV test before entry

Tourists will no longer need a corona test to enter Thailand: The requirement to take a PCR test within 72 hours of departure will no longer apply from April 1st. Vacationers will then only be tested upon arrival in Thailand. Visitors can enter with or without quarantine, depending on their vaccination status and country of departure. This was reported by the Swiss travel portal About Travel. Below are the updated, simplified regulations: Test and Go: No quarantine - fully vaccinated travelers arriving by air from any country can enter without quarantine. Travelers only need to undergo a PCR test (day 0) when they arrive at their SHA+ or ASQ hotel and receive a negative result. After receiving a negative test result, travelers are allowed to travel to other parts of the country. On the 5th day, a self-test is carried out with an antigen test kit and the test result is communicated on the Mor Chana mobile app. Sandbox program: Reduced from the current 7 nights to 5 nights. After five nights in the sandbox destinations (Pattaya, Phuket, Khao Lak, Krabi, Samui, Koh Phang Ngan or Koh Tao), travelers are allowed to travel within the country. Alternative quarantine program: For partially vaccinated or unvaccinated travelers, the quarantine will be reduced from the current 10 nights in a designated quarantine hotel in Bangkok, Samut Prakan, Pattaya, Phuket or Samui to 5 nights before they can travel to other parts of the country. Travelers must undergo a PCR test on day 4-5.

DTM: Almost 1,7 million passengers used the airport last year

Despite mobility restrictions due to the pandemic in the first half of 2021, a total of 2021 passengers used Dortmund Airport from January to December 1.692.960. In the previous year, the figure was 1.220.624. In the current outlook for the summer flight schedule, the number of movements as well as the number of destinations are even significantly higher than in 2019. However, the capacity utilization rates are still not at the level before the pandemic, the airport said in a press release. In January and February 2022, a total of 243.787 passengers used Dortmund Airport (previous year: 74.514). For the past year, the (expected) annual result is minus 15,6 million euros (2020: minus 21,8 million euros). The EU operating result (annual result excluding depreciation, interest and sovereign costs) was almost halved from minus 12 million euros in 2020 to minus 6,2 million euros in 2021. "Despite the effects of the pandemic situation on passenger numbers, extensive measures have made it possible to achieve an economic result in line with the business plan," said airport boss Ludger van Bebber. Both aviation and non-aviation revenues increased compared to the previous year. Final results will be presented at the supervisory board meeting in June 2021 after the audit has been completed and the 2022 annual financial statements have been approved. "Based on the current positive passenger development, we are committed to achieving a positive EU operating result by 2023 - despite the significant negative influences of the pandemic," predicts van Bebber. Two photovoltaic systems are to be built The airport's supervisory board has approved the construction of two 1.700 square meter photovoltaic systems on the roofs of several aircraft hangars. Germany: Verdi calls on security personnel to go on strike again

The Verdi union is once again calling on security personnel at numerous German commercial airports to go on a 22-hour strike on Tuesday, March 2022, 24. Hamburg Airport assumes that the majority of departures will have to be cancelled. This time, the airports affected are Frankfurt, Berlin, Bremen, Hanover, Stuttgart, Düsseldorf and Cologne/Bonn. This means that a large part of international air traffic is affected. However, there will be no strike at Germany's second largest airport, Munich. Passengers are advised to find out about the status of their booking with their airline in good time (by phone or via the respective company homepage). If the flight goes ahead, you should arrive as early as possible, as the strike measures also affect security checks. Very long waiting times are to be expected. Last week, security checks in Hamburg were completely cancelled due to the warning strike and all departures had to be cancelled for security reasons.

Bird strike in Vienna: Wizz-Air-A321-231 suffers engine damage

The Airbus A321-231 HA-LTI operated by Wizz Air has been parked in Vienna-Schwechat for several days and is unable to fly. The background is that this aircraft suffered a bird strike on March 14, 2022 on flight W62881 (Vienna-Tirana). The right engine was seriously damaged. According to Wizz Air, the HA-LTI suffered a bird strike during take-off in Vienna. "This is the cause of the engine failure. That is why technicians were on the aircraft on Friday and replaced the engine. The aircraft is still in Vienna because the complex engine replacement has not yet been completed," a spokeswoman told Aviation.Direct. The return landing necessary due to the bird strike-related engine failure was carried out safely on March 14, 2022. The passengers were then taken to their destination Tirana on another aircraft. Bird strikes are a recurring problem in aviation and are considered particularly annoying by airlines, as in many cases the engine is so badly damaged that a replacement engine has to be installed. This is very expensive and the costs of installation and the necessary downtime are not even taken into account. A further flight to Tirana would not have been an option for safety reasons.

Akureyri: Niceair presents first routes

The Icelandic startup Niceair has presented the first routes that it plans to serve from Akureyri. These are Copenhagen, London-Stansted and Tenerife South. These destinations are to be flown to at low frequency from the beginning of June 2022. Since Niceair is launching as a so-called virtual airline, i.e. without AOC and operating license, operations will formally take place as charter flights. The operating carrier will be the Maltese airline Hifly Malta with Airbus A319. Other airlines were previously under discussion, but the Maltese airline was able to prevail in the tender process. On behalf of Niceair, the company will commute between Akureyri and Copenhagen twice a week from June 2, 2022 to September 29, 2022. From June 3, 2022, London-Stansted will be served at the same frequency. This route is provisionally limited to September 30, 2022. Tenerife South will be on the flight schedule once a week from June 8, 2022 to September 28, 2022. Niceair plans to introduce numerous other destinations in the coming weeks that will be offered from the lesser-known Icelandic airport.
