Oceania Cruises modernizes Riviera and Marina

The shipping company Oceania Cruises wants to renovate two more ships: The Riviera is to be modernized from mid-November 2022 and the Marina is expected to go into dry dock in October 2023. Both ships have a capacity for around 1.210 passengers each. Previously, the Regatta, Insignia, Nautica and Sirena were brought up to date. The shipping company explained, among other things, that the ships mentioned above are to be extensively redesigned. This primarily affects the cabins and suites, which are to receive new furniture and exclusive wall and ceiling design. The washrooms are also to be renovated and enlarged. Oceania Cruises also wants to give the Riviera and the Marina a completely renovated restaurant. This is not only to be modernized, but also expanded. In the future, the company wants to be able to offer an additional outdoor restaurant. Among other things, this is to be equipped with a grill and a wood-fired pizza oven.

Despite criticism: Corsair wants to reactivate Mali flights

The French airline Corsair International is currently causing political uproar in France because the carrier wants to resume non-stop flights between Paris-Orly and Bamako. This does not suit some political forces at all. The background to this is that the diplomatic mood between Mali and France has been tense since the military coup in August 2020. The European state was formerly a colonial power in the African country. Corsair International plans to serve the route between Orly and Bamako three times a week with Airbus A16s from June 2022, 330. For the time being, it is planned that this will be offered seasonally until September 18, 2022. The company justifies the move with high demand for flight connections between France and Mali. The last time it flew to the aforementioned African state was in 2019. Competitor Air France has been flying to Bamako more or less regularly again since mid-February 2022. Some French politicians believe that the expansion of air links would establish the military junta in Mali internationally. The junta regularly imposes sanctions in the aviation sector. For example, airlines were told to use their slots or risk losing them. European airlines were also repeatedly denied overflights. The same applies time and again to foreign military aircraft. The German armed forces also felt this.

Air Serbia intends to further expand the fleet

The airline Air Serbia wants to expand its fleet by up to eight aircraft. However, some of these are only short-term dry lease deals that are to be used to cushion seasonal peaks in midsummer. Four ATR72-600s are to join the fleet shortly. These will primarily serve as replacements for older turboprop models. Air Serbia currently assumes that the four aircraft will be in the fleet by midsummer. It will also take over an additional Airbus A319, which should be ready for use by the beginning of June 2022 at the latest. The company is also currently examining whether it will add two A320s or Boeing 737s to its fleet. No final decision has been made on this yet. Regardless, it will most likely be a short lease, as these aircraft are intended to increase capacity during midsummer. The aging ATR72-200/-500s will be retired by the end of this year. This also means that the company will be flying in parallel with the successor model ATR2022-72 over the summer of 600. The company justifies this approach with the expected high demand during the peak travel season. They are currently looking for over 200 flying employees. For this reason, regular applicant days are held in Belgrade, among other places.

EASA wants to end Preighter operations

The European Aviation Safety Agency does not want to extend the use of so-called Preighters beyond July 31, 2022. It has come to the conclusion that the logistical challenges have changed and therefore the exemptions are no longer to be granted, the EASA said in a statement. Since March 24, 2020, airlines have been able to obtain simplified approval to transport cargo in passenger cabins. This also served to be able to fly more protective goods, especially from Asia, to Europe. The EASA gave the green light for the removal of the seats as well as for transport on the bench seats. This practice is now to end. For airlines, this means that new approvals must be applied for in good time. These usually have a term of around eight months. After July 31, 2022, these will no longer be distributed using the simplified procedure. Some carriers have already decided that they will use the "Preighters" as passenger aircraft again. According to CH-Aviation.com, 43 passenger aircraft operated by airlines based in the European Union are currently in use as "preighters". These will be gradually dismantled. However, there is also the possibility that one or the other provider will opt for permanent conversions. Then all standards that apply to cargo aircraft must be met. Due to the corona pandemic, these had been relaxed since March 24, 2020. Austrian Airlines also temporarily used passenger aircraft as preighters, but these were dismantled again.

Heston flies for Condor and Finnair for Eurowings Discover

The German holiday airline Condor is relying more heavily on the services of other airlines in the current 2022 summer flight schedule period. These fly on behalf of the holiday airline under wet lease agreements. Specifically, Condor has hired European Air Charter, Bulgaria Air, Sundair and Heston Airlines. The leased aircraft are used from various German airports. Some of them are also - at least implied - designed in the client's new livery. For example, there are already Airbus jets from European Air Charter and Bulgaria Air that have stripes on the tail unit. Heston Airlines has been signed up by Condor. The aviation company based in Vilnius is a new company that only obtained AOC and operating license last year. The fleet consists of six aircraft: three Airbus A320s and three Airbus A330-200s. The average age of the fleet is 14,7 years, according to CH-Aviation.com. Eurowings and Eurowings Discover also rely on ACMI service providers Condor is not an isolated case with the increased use of wet lease aircraft. Competitor Eurowings secured five Airbus A220-300s for this summer season, which are operated by Air Baltic from Düsseldorf. In addition, eleven A320s from Avion Express Malta fly from Stuttgart and Düsseldorf for the Lufthansa subsidiary. In addition, there are aircraft operated by Tuifly and jets that are used at short notice on an ad hoc charter basis. The sister company Eurowings Discover is also taking other airlines under its wing.
