Balearic offer is ten percent higher than the record year 2019

Many airlines seem to be pinning their hopes on strong demand for flights to the Balearic Islands this year. Figures from the Spanish airline association ALA show that the offer this year is ten percent higher than the record year of 2019. According to this, around 2022 million seats are on sale for the summer of 44,4. ALA also explains that tourist demand has increased more sharply in the Balearic Islands than in any other Spanish region. At the same time, an urgent appeal is being made to the airports in Ibiza and Palma de Mallorca: They should ensure that the police increase their staff so that there are no excessively long queues at passport controls for passengers arriving and departing from non-Schengen countries. Otherwise, chaos would threaten.

After Twitter posting: India issued Spicejet Boeing 737 flight ban

The Indian Civil Aviation Authority ordered the immediate shutdown of a Spicejet Boeing 737 following a Twitter post by a passenger complaining about the condition of the cabin. The procedure is probably unique in the world. A traveler flew with Spicejet from Bengaluru to Guwahati on April 19, 2022. The condition of the cabin angered him. He posted that it was downright run down, important parts were broken or completely missing. He took photos with his smartphone and also tagged the Indian Civil Aviation Authority DGCA in the Twitter post. The authority reacted promptly and imposed a temporary flight ban on the affected medium-haul jet. The authority confirmed the incident. But it was not without a "second chance" for Spicejet. The passenger posted shortly after the outbound flight landed, giving the authority time to prepare. At Bengaluru Airport, DGCA inspectors surprised the crew after the return flight landed. They examined the Boeing 737 and found it unfit for flight. An immediate grounding was ordered. This will remain in effect until Spicejet has rectified all the defects identified and the inspectors of the Civil Aviation Authority have found them to be OK during a new inspection. Spicejet was then able to make repairs particularly quickly, as the inspectors were invited to accept the work just one day later. The company explained, among other things: "On the instructions of the DGCA, work was carried out on the cabin of a SpiceJet Boeing 737 that landed in Bengaluru on April 19 at around 15:40 p.m. The aircraft resumed flight operations on the morning of April 20 after

Qatar Airways will fly to Frankfurt three times a day in the future

The Gulf airline is increasing its flight frequencies between Doha and Frankfurt on July 1st. From July 1st, 2022, a third daily flight will complement the existing offer of two 777-300ER departures at 10:25 a.m. and 17:35 p.m.: QR072 leaves the Main metropolis at 20:20 p.m., and the Boeing 03-30 arrives in Doha at 787:9 a.m. Qatar Airways currently offers two daily flights from and to Frankfurt. The carrier is thus making use of the possibilities offered by the new EU aviation agreement, as the aviation portal Aero reports. Qatar Airways had reached its stop lines in Germany: 14 take-offs per week in Frankfurt and Munich plus seven departures from other German airports - the bilateral aviation agreement with Germany did not allow for more. CATA provides a remedy: The agreement concluded between the EU and Qatar in 2021 will give Qatar Airways largely unrestricted and, until then, steadily increasing flight rights from the entire EU to the Doha hub from 2024. "The route between Doha and Frankfurt is of particular importance to Qatar Airways," said Qatar Regional Manager Ronny de Lange. "It was the second route to Germany that Qatar Airways started in 2002. The third daily flight from Frankfurt to Doha further improves connectivity."

Strike in Greece: No ferry traffic on May 1st

In Greece, a seafarers' strike has been announced for May 1st. Work at ports across the country is to be stopped for 24 hours, which will also mean that all ferry connections will be cancelled. Holidaymakers will therefore have to resort to alternative means of transport between the mainland and the islands, such as available domestic flights. As several Greek media outlets have reported, the Panhellenic Maritime Federation (PNO) union has called for an all-day strike on May 1st. This will cover all categories of ships, so ferries will also be affected. The strike is to begin at 0:01 a.m. and is scheduled to end at midnight. According to a statement from the union, the aim of the protest is to show solidarity with the labor movement. May 1st is a public holiday in Greece, as well as in Austria, as "Labor Day". Because the date falls on a Sunday this year, this holiday has officially been moved to May 2nd, as Check24 reports. No more proof of infection from May 1st In Greece, the corona-related access restrictions for public facilities and indoor spaces will be lifted from May 1st. Restaurants, bars and events will then be accessible again without visitors having to show a negative test, proof of vaccination or proof of recovery. However, it has not yet been finally decided whether the abolition of the proof of infection will also apply to entry into Greece. As things stand, holidaymakers aged five and over must comply with the 3G rule to enter the country.

Entry: North Macedonia abolishes CoV restrictions

North Macedonia lifted its corona-related entry regulations on April 20. Travelers therefore no longer need to provide proof at the border that they have either been vaccinated against corona, recovered from the disease or tested negative for the pathogen. The German Foreign Office confirmed this to the travel portal About Travel. In the country, however, the situation is different: adults are only allowed to enter the interior of restaurants, hotels, etc. with proof of complete vaccination or proof of recovery (medical certificate in English or with a translation with the date of recovery, which must not be more than 180 days ago). In health facilities (hospitals, clinics, doctor's offices and pharmacies, but also retirement homes) and public transport (bus, train, plane, taxi), the obligation to wear a mouth and nose mask still applies. Children under six years of age are exempt from this.

United Airlines flies a loss in the billions

The US airline United Airlines started the financial year with deep red figures, but is expecting a strong comeback. In the three months to the end of March, the bottom line was a loss of around 1,3 billion euros, the US carrier announced in a press release. This means that the loss was in the same order of magnitude as a year ago. Like the entire industry, the airline suffered in the last quarter from the fact that the Corona crisis - particularly due to the Omicron virus variant that was rampant at the beginning of the year - slowed down air traffic. At 7,6 billion dollars, revenues were more than twice as high as in the same period last year. However, they were still 21 percent below the comparable figure for 2019, i.e. before the pandemic. However, United expects business to recover strongly towards the summer. Demand is booming so much that not only a return to profitability but even record sales are to be expected in the current quarter.
