Geneva Airport: Emirates increases frequency to Dubai

Emirates will resume its second daily non-stop flight between Geneva and its Dubai hub from July 1, 2022. By doubling its flight capacity, the airline is responding to increasing demand from passengers and the easing of international travel regulations, reports the Swiss travel portal About Travel. With two daily connections, Emirates is returning to pre-pandemic capacity at Geneva Airport. The flights will be operated with the Boeing 777-300 'Game Changer', in the three-class configuration with six private 4-square-meter suites in First Class, 42 reclining seats in Business Class and 306 ergonomic seats in Economy Class. "In the current phase of the pandemic downturn, we are seeing a sharp increase in demand. With this capacity expansion, Emirates is demonstrating how important its connections with Geneva International Airport and its region are for both business and leisure travel. This was already the case before the pandemic, since the introduction of the first flight on June 1, 2011,” said Juerg Mueller, Country Manager for Switzerland.

Marriott finally withdraws from Russia

The US hotel chain will now finally turn its back on the Russian market after more than 25 years - Western restrictions are the reason. After four months of war against Ukraine, the largest hotel group in the world is withdrawing from Russia. The renewed sanctions by the West make it impossible for Marriott to continue operating franchise hotels in Russia. Marriott International's hotel operations in Russia are therefore being suspended. In March, Marriott Hotels & Resorts had already closed its office in Moscow because of the war and put plans for hotel openings and new projects on hold. Against the background of increased sanctions against Russia by the EU, Great Britain and the USA, it will be impossible to operate franchise hotels in Russia. Operations in Russia are therefore now being suspended completely, as Reisevor9 reports. Marriott thus joins McDonald's, Starbucks and other companies that have withdrawn in recent weeks in view of the ongoing war in Ukraine and the tightening of Western sanctions to economically isolate Russia.

United Airlines has started Mallorca flights

At the end of last week, United Airlines started the nonstop connection between New York and Palma de Mallorca with the N642UA. The aircraft set off for the Balearic island late in the evening on June 2, 2022 as UA236. After just over seven hours of flight time, the long-haul aircraft was ceremoniously welcomed at Palma de Mallorca airport. On board were around 200 passengers who wanted to spend their holidays on the Balearic island. Local tourism has high hopes for the nonstop connection and believes that there will soon be other US carriers that will add Mallorca to their route network. Relevant discussions are already underway. The United States of America is to be developed as an additional core market and should ideally overcompensate for the declines due to the move away from "binge tourism".

BER: Norse Atlantic flies direct to New York and Los Angeles

Next stop Berlin: The Norwegian low-cost airline Norse Atlantic Airways is adding two new long-haul routes from BER airport to its program from mid-August. From August 17.8.2022, 19.08.2022, New York's JFK airport will be served daily, and from August 160, 189, Los Angeles International Airport will also be served three times a week. Ticket sales have already started. After a break of almost five years, the west coast will once again be connected to the capital region by direct flight. Flights to New York will be offered in the cheapest booking class "Light" from 787 euros one way, and to Los Angeles from 9 euros one way. A Boeing 2021-XNUMX with two-class seating will be used. The low-cost airline offers two cabin variants: Economy and Premium. "For far too long, the vibrant and culturally diverse city of Berlin has been inadequately connected to the transatlantic. These two new routes provide a direct and cost-effective option that saves both money and time for local and international companies when they choose to travel to and from the US or use our cargo services,” said Bjørn Tore Larsen, founder, CEO and majority shareholder of Norse Atlantic Airways. The jumbo captain founded the airline in March XNUMX as a new long-haul airline that aims to offer affordable fares on transatlantic routes.

Corendon Airlines connects Kassel-Calden with Antalya

Corendon Airlines started the connection between Antalya and Kassel on June 4th. The first flight was fully booked. Corendon Airlines will fly to Antalya in Turkey twice a week (Wednesdays & Saturdays) until October 29th, 2022 and will now supplement this year's summer flight schedule at the airport in northern Hesse with these flights. A Boeing 737-800 will be used, the airport announced in a press release. This means that the airline is adding Kassel as its 22nd German departure airport to its route network. "The fact that the first flights are fully booked confirms the demand for Turkey offers in the region - both for tourist and ethnic traffic. We are very pleased about the good start to the new cooperation with Corendon Airlines. This gives our passengers even more options for planning their vacation from Kassel. Antalya is a highly sought-after travel destination and the flights with Corendon Airlines are a great addition to the 2022 summer flight schedule,” said airport managing director Lars Ernst.

Easyjet is reducing frequencies at Berlin-Brandenburg Airport

The low-cost airline Easyjet is reducing frequencies on numerous routes from the end of June 2022. Affected passengers are gradually receiving notifications from the carrier offering rebookings or refunds. The reason for the measure is likely that Easyjet has too few flying staff available at the Berlin-Brandenburg location despite good bookings. For this reason, among others, the carrier had to cancel many flights from BER over the Whitsun weekend. The current cuts initially affect 27 routes. These include both city destinations and classic holiday routes. The extent of the cuts varies depending on the destination, from one reduced rotation to eight fewer rotations per week. In detail, from the end of June 2022, the following Easyjet destinations will be served less frequently from Berlin-Brandenburg Airport: Athens, Basel, Stockholm-Arlanda, Bristol, Cagliari, Paris-Charles de Gaulle, Cologne/Bonn, Copenhagen, Catania, Faro, Rome-FCO, Geneva, Helsinki, Ibiza, London-Gatwick, London-Luton, Milan-Linate, Milan-Malpensa, Manchester, Naples, Olbia, Palma de Mallorca, Pristina, Preveza, Thessaloniki, Tel Aviv and Venice (Marco Polo).

Cyprus has abolished Corona entry rules

The Republic of Cyprus lifted the Corona entry restrictions on June 1, 2022. In concrete terms, this means that people can enter the country again without vaccination, recovery or a negative PCR test. The "Cyprus Flight Pass" entry form is also history. Cyprus was the first country to surprise everyone with a digital entry form in 2020. Shortly thereafter, Greece and other countries followed suit. Over a very long period of time, the government divided the world map into different lists. Whether or not you had to go into quarantine depended on how the country of origin was classified. Free entry should be possible at least in summer 2022. Cyprus is considered to be heavily dependent on tourism and has seen sharp declines in the past two years. The booking situation is currently said to be extremely good. The mask requirement has largely been abolished in the country, although it will remain in place in hospitals, retirement homes and public transport for the time being.

Pool prices too high? Free Alternatives Vienna

The temperatures are rising week after week, but the entrance prices to Vienna's outdoor pools have already been raised. There are also free alternatives for cooling off in the cool water. "In total, there are over 60 km of free water access in Vienna. In contrast to other federal states, in Vienna we are consistently focusing on opening up areas by the water, as in recent years with the workers' beach, the Strombucht or new sunbathing areas at Mühlschüttel on the Alte Donau. The CopaBeach or the Pirate Bucht, which was redesigned last year, are another top offer for relaxing hours in Vienna," says Ulli Sima, the city councilor responsible for Vienna's waters. All of Vienna's bathing waters have excellent water quality, which is measured in many places and continuously checked by the City of Vienna. Spacious lawns with shady trees, modern wooden walkways, floating pontoons, toilet facilities, dog zones with water access - this and much more is available to all Viennese free of charge. The Danube Island: Vienna's largest local recreation area on the water The Danube Island and the New Danube, artificially created for the city of Vienna's flood protection between 1972 and 1988, offer water access on 42 km of banks. The 135 km long network of paths is particularly popular with cyclists, runners and inline skaters. 60 floating pontoons in the New Danube are maintained by the City of Vienna. In the north and south of the island and on the left flood protection dam are two of the largest nudist bathing areas in the immediate vicinity of a large city. In the season, the City of Vienna's mobile island service - Viennese waters on the island

EU Commission waves through state aid for Sata

The EU Commission has given the green light to state aid for the aviation group Sata. This is linked to the group making extensive changes to its structure. In the future, a holding company is to be set up over the operating airlines Sata, Azores Airlines and SGA. 51 percent of Azores Airlines are to be sold in order to bring in additional money. The Sata Group is considered to be loss-making and accumulated additional losses during the Corona pandemic. 453,25 million euros in subsidies are now to be paid. While Sata specializes in regional traffic, Azores Airlines operates short and medium-haul flights, including to the USA. The island business in particular, which is partially subsidized by PSO, is considered to be unprofitable. The company has repeatedly threatened to discontinue routes because they could not be maintained for financial reasons without subsidies. Some routes have now been re-tendered.
