Noise protection hall at Zurich Airport back in operation

After insulation material came loose from the walls in the soundproofing hall at Zurich Airport during an engine test run on December 3, 2021, the hall had to be closed and partially renovated. The soundproofing hall is now back in operation. During the incident last December, parts of the sound-absorbing structure of the soundproofing hall were destroyed, which led to extensive renovation work. After a lengthy analysis phase, designers have planned the reconstruction. The structure was redesigned from scratch and reinforced at neuralgic points, as the airport announced in a press release. As a result of the event, engine test runs at Zurich Airport had to be carried out outdoors for a time. The hall was able to be returned to operation on October 5, 2022. The soundproofing hall at Zurich Airport was built in 2014. It is financed from Zurich Airport's noise fund and serves to protect residents from noise emissions caused by engine test runs.

Austrian Airlines expands Premium Economy offer in Boeing 777

The Premium Economy class was introduced at Austrian Airlines in 2018. Four years later, the seat category is now also being expanded on the red-white-red airline's largest aircraft type, the Boeing B777. From the current 24 seats, the Premium Economy Class in the six Austrian B777 aircraft will be expanded to 40 seats per aircraft. The conversion of the Boeing aircraft will begin in spring 2023. From May 2023, all red-white-red B777s will take off in the new seating configuration. In addition to the comfort seat made exclusively for the Lufthansa Group, Premium Economy passengers can check in two pieces of luggage weighing up to 23 kilograms each free of charge and enjoy a multi-course menu created by Do&Co on board. "By converting our long-haul fleet, we are meeting the increasing demand for greater travel comfort and look forward to welcoming even more guests in Austrian Premium Economy in the future," says Austrian CCO Michael Trestl. In addition to the additional Premium Economy offer, the number of seats on Austrian Airlines’ B777 fleet will be increased by 14 Economy Class seats per aircraft. This will increase the total capacity of the Austrian long-haul fleet by 144 seats. The conversion announced by AUA also has a downside. The space available in aircraft cabins is limited. In concrete terms, this means that additional seats in almost all cases come at the expense of seat pitch and thus legroom. With around 330 seats in the Boeing 777-200, the company comes very close to United Airlines, which carries even more passengers domestically with this type of aircraft. British Airways can also be very tight on aircraft intended for leisure traffic. Austrian Airlines will

Ljubljana: Air Cairo has canceled Hurghada flights

Contrary to the original plans, the Egyptian airline Air Cairo will not offer Hurghada flights from the Slovenian capital airport Ljubljana. Instead, Sarajevo will be connected. Air Serbia: Etihad reduces stake to 16,42 percent

Gulf carrier Etihad Airways has again reduced its stake in Air Serbia. It has sold more shares to the Serbian state, so that it now only owns 16,42 percent. The government put around 15,2 million US dollars on the table for the share package and increased its majority share to 84,58 percent. It bought 1.818.820 shares from Etihad Airways. The entry in Serbia's central securities register was recently made. Air Serbia emerged from JAT Airways. At the start of the project, the Gulf carrier had a 49,9 percent stake. In contrast to other airlines - such as Air Berlin and Alitalia - the Serbian company managed to make ends meet. This is mainly attributed to the fact that the government stepped in after Etihad had decided to gradually withdraw from many investments. The Gulf carrier currently holds 16,42 percent of Air Serbia. It is assumed that the remaining shares will be sold to the Serbian state at a later date. However, there is no exact timetable for this yet.
