The Lufthansa Group is also introducing rebooking fees in higher classes

The airlines of the Lufthansa Group are adjusting their global fare structures in all travel classes on October 11, 2022. As part of this, rebooking fees will be introduced for most fares. For example, the Economy Classic fare can only be rebooked on European flights for a fee of 35 euros, as the LH Group announced in a sales communication. The travel date, start and destination, and routing can still be changed. Changes to the Classic fares have so far been free of charge. High surcharges on many long-distance routes In the future, things will get really expensive for rebookings on long-distance routes, where changes have so far been free of charge except for the Economy Light fare. For flights to the USA, Canada, and Central America, customers have to pay from 150 euros for rebookings in the Saver/Best Buy fare, while the surcharge for the Base/Restricted fare is from 120 euros. In the cheapest Light category without free baggage, changes are no longer possible at all. For routes to and from Africa, Asia, the Middle East and South America, however, the Light fare can still be rebooked, but this will cost a whopping 200 euros or more. If you have booked Saver/Best Buy, a fee of 150 euros or more is due, while for Base/Restricted, Lufthansa Airlines charge a surcharge of 120 euros or more. Flights to and from Australia, China, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore are exempt from the new regulation. However, if passengers have chosen the Flex option, nothing changes: they can still make rebookings in all cabin classes free of charge. Corporate fares still unchanged for the time being Lufthansa further announced that the changes affect all sales channels and all published fares. The conditions of the Corporate Fares for corporate customers will initially remain unchanged, unless the Fare

LOT gets six more Boeing 737 MAX

LOT Polish Airlines is taking delivery of six Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft at short notice, strengthening its fleet for short and medium-haul flights. The aircraft will be put into service this month, with one aircraft being delivered directly from the factory in Seattle. The short-term takeover was made possible because the Romanian airline Blue Air has ceased flight operations, the airline announced in a press release. LOT Polish Airlines is receiving the aircraft as an operational lease from the US-based Air Lease Corporation (ALC). The two partners already have leasing agreements for five Boeing 737 MAX 8s and one Dreamliner. The first additional 737 MAX 8 will go into scheduled service in the middle of the month. The Polish airline will use the additional Boeing 737 MAX 8s primarily from Warsaw on short and medium-haul routes within Europe, which are in high demand. The first aircraft will be integrated into scheduled service in the middle of the month. With the commissioning of the six additional aircraft, LOT Polish Airlines' fleet of B737 MAX 8s has grown to a total of eleven jets. The aircraft is equipped with two CFM LEAP-1B engines of the latest generation and has a range of up to 5.750 kilometers - 2.250 kilometers more than the B737-400. Its fuel consumption is 15 percent lower than that of the B737-800 NG. Each of the six B737 MAX 8s has 189 seats, all of which are equipped with USB ports. Easyjet tests onboard WiFi offer

The low-cost airline Easyjet is currently testing an onboard WiFi solution that will enable passengers to, among other things, look through the sales catalog, get information about the flight, play games and watch selected films. Since October 4, 2022, the so-called AirFi box has been in trial operation on some aircraft. It is a kind of on-board intranet, because there is no access to the Internet. The aim is to make all services offered via this solution available as free services. However, a final decision has not yet been made as to whether AirFi will be rolled out fleet-wide. More and more airlines are offering their passengers various services on board via WiFi. Often they do not have access to the Internet, but newspapers and some streaming videos, for example, are stored on them. The services can be used on smartphones, tablets and laptops, for example. It is also apparent that many carriers are subsequently doing away with the printed versions of sales catalogs, newspapers and in-flight magazines. This saves weight and therefore fuel, i.e. money. Easyjet hopes that the new onboard WiFi solution will attract additional customers. After the trial operation, a decision will be made as to whether the boxes will be installed in all aircraft. They are currently only available on selected aircraft.

Vienna: Ryanair launches Palma additional flight on November 1, 2022

Due to high demand, the airline Ryanair is launching an additional flight pair between Vienna and Palma de Mallorca on November 1, 2022. The reason for this is that the scheduled flight FR489 (Palma-Vienna) is already fully booked. The special flights will be operated as FR9460 (Vienna-Palma) or FR9461 (Palma-Vienna) with an Airbus A320 from Lauda Europe stationed in Austria. The outbound flight leaves the capital at around 15:15 p.m. and will reach Mallorca at 17:40 p.m. The Airbus A320 from Lauda Europe will take off from Palma at around 18:15 p.m. and reach Vienna at 20:45 p.m. The current price picture is quite strange: The outbound flight FR9460 was on sale on the afternoon of October 7, 2022 for 16,99 euros. The return flight FR9461 cost 186,99 euros. This is probably due to the fact that November 1, 2022 is a public holiday in Austria and is also used as a return day. The consequence of this is that demand is significantly lower in the direction of Palma than in the direction of Vienna.

Austria elected to the governing body of ICAO

After around 15 years of "absence", Austria is again represented in the governing body of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The General Assembly elected Christian Schleifer to the Council with a clear majority. Schleifer is the Austrian representative at ICAO and has many years of experience in the aviation sector and was nominated as a candidate by the Abis Group (Belgium, Ireland, Croatia, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Austria, Portugal and Switzerland). As a specialised organisation of the United Nations (UN), ICAO is responsible for the foundations and further development of international civil aviation. Austria last had a seat on the ICAO governing body 15 years ago. Only a few days ago it was announced that the General Assembly had "voted out" the representative of the Russian Federation from the Administrative Council. Russia could not get enough votes to be re-elected to the ICAO Council. ICAO, which has 193 member states, is considered one of the most important players in global aviation. In the election on October 15st, Austria was re-elected to the organization's council after 2025 years and will be one of the 36 members until XNUMX. This means that Austria has a direct influence on ensuring that security, the environment and new technologies remain at the top of the agenda. Environmental issues in particular will be a focus in the coming years.
