World Europa: MSC acquires LNG/fuel cell cruise ship

The Italian shipping company MSC has taken over the World Europa, the largest cruise ship to date equipped with LNG and fuel cell propulsion. It was built by the French shipyard Chantiers de l'Atlantique. The shipping company emphasizes that the combination of the two technologies should result in it being the cruise ship that currently has the lowest pollutant emissions in the entire industry. The MSC World Europa will be christened in Doha in November 2022. The maiden voyage is scheduled to take place in December 2022. The ship will initially be stationed in the Gulf region before being transferred to Europe in March 2023. Cruises will then be offered in the Mediterranean region from Genoa, Naples, Messina, Valletta, Barcelona and Marseille. The new addition will be followed by a sister ship: the MSC World America is scheduled to set sail in 2025 and will be slightly different. Deutsche Hospitality announces Intercity Hotel in Tashkent

Deutsche Hospitality, the parent company of the Steigenberger and Intercity hotels, will open its first hotel in Uzbekistan in the first quarter of 2023. Korean Air discontinues individual Prague flights

The airline Korean Air will return to the Czech airport in Prague after a long absence. The comeback is only short-lived for the time being, as it is only offering four flights for the time being. Verdi and Aerologic agree on collective agreement

The cargo airline Aerologic and Verdi have reached an agreement on a collective agreement for around 600 pilots. Flixbus is pushing into the German 49-euro ticket

In the future, this will cost 49 euros per month and is expected to be introduced on January 1, 2023. Flixbus is now putting pressure on it to be integrated accordingly. It will not be quite as easy as in June, July and August 2022, because the 49-euro ticket, which will also only be valid for regional transport, will be sold as a subscription. Although it has already been determined that monthly cancellation will be possible, using it will then no longer be as easy and flexible. The nine-euro ticket could be easily purchased online, via apps, at vending machines, counters or from bus drivers. No further obligations were entered into, because it was automatically invalid at the end of the month. The basic agreement between the federal and state governments stipulates that the 49-euro ticket must be purchased as a subscription in the future. In concrete terms, this means that if you forget to cancel, your payment method will be automatically debited and the ticket will be extended for another month. This may be practical for transport associations, but it takes away the flexibility of passengers. In contrast to the Austrian climate ticket, the German 49-euro ticket will not be valid for long-distance travel. In Germany, the incomprehensible separation between local and long-distance travel has been made for many years for network tickets. This is precisely the point that seems to bother the long-distance bus provider Flixbus, because so far - just like with the nine-euro ticket - they have been left out. The management argues that in many regions there is no significant rail service and Flixbus currently offers the fastest connection to larger cities.

Unknown person threatened Lufthansa with a bomb on Tik Tok

On October 23, 2022, Lufthansa flight LH411, operated with the Airbus A340-600 with the registration D-AIHP, had to make a safety landing at Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport. The background is that a bomb threat was received via the social media platform Tik Tok. The long-haul aircraft was en route from New York JFK to Munich. There were 267 passengers and 14 crew members on board. At first, the travelers were not told the real reason for the unscheduled landing at Paris-Charles de Gaulle. There was talk of technical problems. At the French airport, they were then told to disembark quickly. Only then were the passengers informed by Lufthansa staff that an unknown person had made a bomb threat against this flight via Tik Tok. The police and their explosives experts carried out extensive checks on the Airbus A340-600 and were fortunately able to give the all-clear. One day later, the long-haul aircraft was transferred to Munich and is back on scheduled service. A Lufthansa media representative explained, among other things: "The reason for the precautionary diversion to Paris was a possible security situation." The police are now investigating the unknown person who made the threat via Tik Tok. In addition to criminal consequences, this person also expects a high claim for damages from Lufthansa. "An alternative landing - especially on a long-haul flight - can generally easily result in costs of up to six figures," said the spokesman.

Austrian Airlines: Airbus A320neo is back in scheduled service

Austrian Airlines' first Airbus A320neo was successfully repaired during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday. The technical department received the required spare part in time so that the OE-LZN was ready for use again. The aircraft was used commercially as OS451 to London Heathrow on the morning of the Austrian national holiday. Other planned destinations are: Berlin and again London Heathrow. Two days after the maiden flight of the OE-LZN, technical problems arose. These were initially resolved by the technical department before they occurred again after a couple of flights. The aircraft then required a spare part which only arrived in Vienna on Tuesday evening. The technical department installed this during the night so that the first Airbus A320neo has been back in scheduled service since Wednesday. The OE-LZN was only presented to the public last week.
