AK Kärnten wins lawsuit against German tour operator

Due to the Corona travel warning, a Carinthian woman canceled her trip to Turkey in August 2020. The provider from Germany not only kept the deposit, but also sued the woman for a cancellation fee of 1.800 euros. A Turkey vacation that never took place turned into a bureaucratic odyssey for a Carinthian woman. At the time of departure, there was a travel warning for Turkey in Austria, which is why the consumer canceled the vacation. The travel provider from Germany insisted that it was allowed to keep the deposit of almost 600 euros, because Germany no longer had a travel warning for Turkey at the time of the planned vacation. And that's not all: The provider canceled the trip at a cost and demanded an 80 percent cancellation fee and initiated dunning proceedings in Germany - 1.800 euros were to be paid by the woman. The woman turned to the AK Carinthia consumer protection agency with her case. She had a total of around 2.400 euros to lose. "In our legal opinion, neither the retention of the deposit nor the 80 percent cancellation fee were legal, which is why we took action," explains AK consumer advocate Herwig Höfferer. In 2021, the AK appealed against the dunning procedure in Germany, and was successful. In Germany, the proceedings against the Carinthian woman were discontinued. "And then Austrian law came into play," Höfferer explains, explaining: "We took the position that the woman was also entitled to the deposit of around 600 euros. So we sued the provider and won. The woman will not incur any costs for the trip that never took place!" "If you are unsure or have questions about travel topics, any

Leipzig/Halle Airport newly regulates short-term parking times

Leipzig/Halle Airport is reorganizing its parking system, and new parking regulations will come into force in January 2023. The three priority lanes in front of Terminal B will be subject to a fee and restricted. Areas for contract customers such as taxis, transfer vehicles or GAT guests on lanes 1 and 2 will thus be more clearly identifiable and easier to use for these customer groups. Innovations for passengers and visitors For the first ten minutes, lane 3 in the priority area for "Kiss & Fly" can be used free of charge by private individuals. This means that those who arrive by car and want to drop off or pick up passengers can continue to park directly at the terminal at no additional cost. When driving through the barrier system to the priority lanes, the vehicle's license plate is automatically recorded. If you stay in lane 3 for up to ten minutes, you can exit directly free of charge. The system recognizes the vehicle in question by its license plate. If more than ten minutes are needed, the fees can be paid either at the pay machines in the terminal or when exiting with cash, card or contactless. The payment is then stored in the system with the license plate number and the exit barrier opens. Those who need more time to collect their vehicle can use the P1 car park directly opposite the terminal. The first ten minutes in this car park are also free. If you park for 30 or 60 minutes, the parking fee is 2 or 3 euros respectively.

ANA: Orange Airbus A380 remains on hold

The Japanese airline All Nippon Airways has announced that it will operate five weekly rotations with Airbus A380s on the Tokyo-Honolulu route in the future. The carrier justifies this with the currently extremely high demand. It is currently planned that the superjumbos will be used on the Hawaii route from Narita. Other models will continue to be used from Haneda. However, the increase to five weekly A380 rotations does not mean that the orange-painted superjumbo will be put into scheduled service. In October 2021, ANA formally took delivery of the last Airbus A380 it had ordered. This is also actually intended for the Honolulu route. However, it has not yet been put into scheduled service. The background to this is that the corona pandemic has thrown the Japanese airline's plans into disarray. Japan's entry and quarantine regulations were so strict for a long period of time that even locals found it difficult to comply with them. Tourists were not allowed to enter the country at all at times. ANA headquarters stated that the orange Airbus A380 will not be put into scheduled service. The date has been postponed again indefinitely. The company will decide on this when further improvements are made and will then inform accordingly.

Forecast for 2023: IATA expects $4,7 billion in aviation profits

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) expects the industry to return to profitability in 2023. However, the global surplus will not be particularly large, as the costs of kerosene, personnel and services have risen sharply. Many carriers are already in the black, but not all. For 2023, IATA is calculating an industry profit of 4,7 billion US dollars, considerably less than before the corona pandemic. In 2019, the segment recorded a global profit of 26,4 billion US dollars. In North America and Europe, many, but not all, carriers are already in the black. The situation is very different for most providers in South America and Asia. Here, many providers are still deeply in the red. According to IATA, the recovery in Asia in particular is likely to take even longer.
