Condor increases Iceland capacity

The holiday airline Condor will start a non-stop connection between Frankfurt am Main and Egilsstaðir in May 2023. Contrary to original plans, this will not be operated with an Airbus A320, but with the larger A321 aircraft. This will increase capacity from 180 to 220 seats per flight. As things stand, Condor is the only mainland airline that will fly to Egilsstaðir Airport. The plan is to fly on Tuesdays from May 2022. There will also be weekly flights between Frankfurt am Main and Akureyri from May 13, 2023.

Sunweb launches charter flights from Weeze

The Dutch tour operator Sunweb Group will operate numerous charter flights from the German regional airport Weeze in summer 2023. This is also due to the fact that the ticket tax is lower in Germany. "Weeze is easily accessible for the southern, central and eastern Netherlands. In addition to bookings from the classic Dutch airports, we are seeing increasing demand for departures from German and regional airports. We have therefore decided to include Weeze in our program in the 2023 summer season," says Mattijs ten Brink, CEO of the Sunweb Group. Passengers should benefit from a cost advantage of up to 60 euros per person. From April 2023, Skyexpress will fly to Rhodes, Kos, Zakynthos and Crete (Heraklion) all year round. Two weekly rotations are planned in high season. Charter flights to Antalya and Bodrum operated by Freebird and SunExpress will also be launched.

From 2024: Miles & More will be turned inside out

The Miles & More frequent flyer program will make some changes effective January 1, 2024. The basic principles of these were announced several years ago, but were postponed due to the corona pandemic. One of the new changes is that there will be so-called points instead of status miles. There is also the possibility of being awarded Frequent Traveler status for life after Senator and Hon Circle. Miles & More participants will receive points instead of status miles for their flights in the future. How many points are collected on a flight will only depend on two criteria: the travel class and whether it is a continental or intercontinental flight. In the future, the status term will be at least one year. The period for collecting the required points extends over one calendar year for each frequent flyer status. Long-term frequent flyers will in future be appointed Frequent Traveler and Senator for life. The basis for this is the sum of all points collected on flights operated by Air Dolomiti, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Eurowings, Eurowings Discover, Lufthansa, Swiss or the co-issuing Miles & More airline partners. The awarding of Miles & More award miles remains unchanged.
