Flying personnel: AUA and Vida agree

The union Vida and Austrian Airlines have agreed on a new collective agreement for flight personnel. This includes wage increases for pilots and flight attendants, details of which have not yet been communicated. Both employee representatives and AUA confirmed that an agreement has been reached. Neither side wants to say anything about the terms and conditions, as they first want to inform the workforce about the compromise. Recently, the fronts have hardened. The union Vida even described the management's latest offer as a fake and threatened that without an agreement by Maundy Thursday, strikes can no longer be ruled out. These have now been expressly averted, as an agreement has been reached.

Hamburg Airport donates 30 apple trees

As part of the "HAM helps" campaign, Hamburg Airport has donated 30 trees for the orchard in Niendorf. These are old apple varieties that have almost been forgotten. They are now to be used to green up a park. "If everything grows well, the first fruit could fall from the trees in just three years," says Ingo Fehr from Hamburg Airport's environmental department. "But it's not just the residents who will benefit from the planting campaign. Orchards are considered to be particularly valuable sources of food for animals such as birds, bees, hornets and other insects. This means we can also make an important contribution to biodiversity." The insect hotel, an artificially created nesting and hibernation aid, especially for wild bees, which are indispensable in nature, also serves this purpose. An information board provides details. Around half of the 585 wild bee species in Germany are on the Red List of endangered species. 40 species are already extinct, and another 100 are threatened with extinction. Hamburg Airport has already received a UN award in the past for its commitment to protecting wild bees on its own premises.

NSPA orders another Airbus A330MRTT

The NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) has ordered another Airbus A330 Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT), bringing the Multinational MRTT Fleet (MMF) to ten aircraft. This announcement follows Belgium's decision to increase its number of flight hours in the programme with an additional 1.100 flight hours per year. The Multinational Multi Role Tanker Transport Fleet (MMF) provides strategic transport, aerial refuelling and medical evacuation capabilities to the six participating nations: Belgium, the Czech Republic, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Norway. These nations signed a memorandum of understanding that allows them to share the costs pro rata according to their national commitment of flight hours per year. "Since the delivery of the first aircraft in 2020, and especially since the start of the war in Ukraine, the MMF has been protecting European sovereignty and demonstrating its capabilities as a multi-role tanker aircraft," said Jean Brice Dumont, Head of Military Air Systems at Airbus Defence and Space. "With this new order, NSPA has already acquired one of four optional MRTTs requested in addition to the nine aircraft previously ordered, underlining the high level of customer satisfaction."

April 2023: Eindhoven expects 590.000 passengers

The Dutch airport Eindhoven, which is heavily used by Ryanair, Wizz Air and other low-cost airlines, expects to have around 2023 passengers in April 590.000. Around 3.600 flight movements have been registered. In April this year, the number of flight movements and passengers is higher than last year (2022: 3332 flight movements and 540.000 passengers). The reason for this is the after-effect of Corona, which led to fewer flight tickets being sold. In the last week of April and the first week of May (May holidays), the airport expects around 430 departing flights per week (around 61 per day). In the month of July (summer holidays), this number rises to around 440 departures per week (around 63 per day). The busiest days are Mondays, Fridays and Sundays.
