Aurelius takes over LSG leftovers

Lufthansa will completely separate from its catering subsidiary LSG Group, because after the sale of its European activities to Gategroup, Aurelius will now take over the remainder. The Kranich Group announced this on Wednesday. "We are pleased to have found the right investor for the LSG Group, who also has the full support of the LSG Group management. We are convinced that the LSG Group will be well positioned with Aurelius in the coming years. This will enable us to focus even more on further improving the profitability and return on capital of the Lufthansa Group's core business," says Remco Steenbergen, Chief Financial Officer of Deutsche Lufthansa AG. In 2019, the Kranich Group separated from LSG's European activities. These were sold to Gategroup, which was formerly a competitor. The non-European business was then transferred to Lufthansa and will now go to Aurelius. The transaction is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2023, subject to the relevant external approvals and internal carve-out activities. The sale of the catering division is part of the Lufthansa Group's strategy to focus more on its core airline business. The transaction is expected to have a positive effect on the Lufthansa Group's operating margin (adjusted EBIT) and return on capital (adjusted ROCE). The carve-out transaction includes all traditional catering activities as well as the onboard retail and food commerce business. In addition, all brands of the LSG Group are included, including the 131 LSG Sky Chefs catering operations in the Americas (USA and Latin America), EMMA (emerging markets) and Asia-Pacific regions. The onboard retail specialist Retail InMotion (RiM) based in Europe and SCIS Air

Hydraulic problems: Lufthansa B747-8 flew from Frankfurt to Frankfurt in five hours

Due to technical problems, Lufthansa had to cancel a long-haul flight from Frankfurt am Main on Monday. The Boeing 747-8 with the registration D-ABYG, which was en route to Miami as LH462, was affected. For safety reasons, fuel had to be dumped before the return landing. First, D-ABYG took off from runway 35C at Frankfurt Airport with a delay of around 07 minutes. It then gradually reached an altitude of around 34.000 feet over Ireland. Around 220 nautical miles northwest of Shannon, the captain decided to return to Frankfurt am Main due to a technical problem. Since the Boeing 747-8 would have been too heavy to land, fuel had to be dumped. After around five hours of flight, the Lufthansa aircraft was able to land safely at Frankfurt Airport. According to the company, the affected passengers were rebooked on other USA connections. The hydraulic problem was probably minor, as mechanics were able to repair the aircraft quickly. D-ABYG was scheduled to complete a nearly 456-hour flight from Frankfurt to Los Angeles on Tuesday as Lufthansa Flight 12.
