Iraqi Airways flies to Moscow-Vnukovo with Airbus A220-300

From the end of April 2023, Iraqi Airways also plans to use the Airbus A220-300 aircraft between Baghdad and Moscow (Vnukovo). It is currently planned that the Boeing 737-800 aircraft will be replaced on this route. Initially, Iraqi Airways plans to operate the IA22/2023 route pair on Saturdays from April 241, 242 with A220-300s. On Tuesdays, Boeing 737-800s will continue to be used for the time being. In the medium term, a switch to a mixed operation of A220 and B737-Max-8 is planned.

Innsbruck: General Aviation is growing again

A few days ago, the environmental organization Greenpeace pointed out in a press release that the carbon dioxide emissions of private jets per passenger and flight kilometer are significantly higher than those of scheduled aircraft. They are calling for a ban on these machines and to a certain extent, at least in the Netherlands, their voices have been heard. Amsterdam-Schiphol Airport wants to gradually ban business jets by around 2025. However, the plan is likely to be quite complicated, because the small planes rarely actually fly purely privately. Most of them are registered to commercial operators, so that formally they are commercial flight movements. From a legal point of view, there is not much difference between a charter flight operated by an Airbus A320 and a "private flight" flown by a Learjet. Added to this is the simple fact that Schiphol is a public airport and is required to operate it. First of all, the legal basis must be created so that "private jets" can actually be turned away. The largest airport in the Netherlands is therefore primarily interested in “making room”, as the government wants to further reduce the number of slots. The “business jet ban” means that more space is left for scheduled and charter flights with larger aircraft. What at first glance appears to be a well-intentioned environmental protection measure is actually calculated on a rather tough economic basis. Traffic with small jets will not disappear from the Netherlands, but will simply use other airports for take-offs and landings. To put it simply: the emissions will simply be shifted to another location, but by no means eliminated. Business jet frequent flyer Gewessler wants to

May 2023: Lufthansa flies Frankfurt-Hamburg with B747-400

In May 2023, Lufthansa will operate some domestic German scheduled flights with the Boeing 747-400 aircraft. 45 seats can be booked in Business Class and 162 in Economy Class. On May 2, 4, 11, 18 and 25, 2023, the routes LH002 (Frankfurt-Hamburg) and LH009 (Hamburg-Frankfurt) will be served with Boeing 747-400 long-haul aircraft instead of the usual medium-haul jets. The carrier is not taking this step because of particularly high demand, but primarily for training reasons for pilots.

Eurowings stops Graz-Stuttgart

While Graz Airport was able to celebrate the start of a Eurowings non-stop connection to Berlin just a few days ago, the airport will lose another Austria-Germany connection at the end of April 2023. The Lufthansa subsidiary will discontinue the Stuttgart route. The former Austrian Airlines route was handed over to sister company Eurowings together with Graz-Düsseldorf and Linz-Düsseldorf. Previously, AUA mainly used de Havilland Dash 8-400 turboprop aircraft on the three routes mentioned. After the takeover by Eurowings, the much larger Airbus A319/A320 was used predominantly. The aircraft are also no longer stationed in Austria, which has resulted in unattractive flight times for business travelers. Eurowings has repeatedly temporarily suspended its Germany routes from Linz and Graz. A few weeks ago it was announced that it would no longer fly to Düsseldorf from Upper Austria. The airport said in a press release that the Airbus jets used had proven to be too large and that they would try to find an alternative carrier, for example from the Lufthansa Group. So far, however, they have had no success. Now the Eurowings cuts are also affecting the connection between Graz and Stuttgart. This will be served as a non-stop flight for the last time on April 28, 2023. From May 2023, the option of travelling from Styria to Baden-Württemberg will continue to be offered on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, but only with a change in Berlin-Brandenburg. This is unlikely to be very attractive for business travellers, especially from the automotive industry. This is not the first cut made by the Lufthansa Group in Graz. The connection to the Munich hub was cut by
