Klagenfurt: Still no wages for airport employees

The employees of Klagenfurt Airport and the handling and security subsidiary have not yet received their salaries for April 2023. A week ago, management said that this would not happen until May 5, 2023. Nothing has arrived. The works council and the union are furious and politicians are calling special meetings that are intended to lead to Lilihill being disempowered. Officially, there is now talk of a "short-term liquidity bottleneck". This is said to be the reason why the wages and salaries of the approximately 120 people affected have still not been transferred. The city of Klagenfurt is now working on a solution that will enable employees to take out interest-free loans as a stopgap. However, both the works council and the union have doubts that the coffers of Klagenfurt Airport are actually so empty that salaries can no longer be paid. Rather, it is suspected that the delays are intended as a means of exerting pressure. The usually talkative airport company was not available for comment. In any case, employee representatives are talking about a "huge mess". They do not want to call for a work stoppage yet, as they obviously want to wait for the rescue measures from politicians. However, there is certainly the possibility - at least in theory - that the management could still file for insolvency. The shareholders' consent is not required for this, as it is a duty of the managing director, and failure to do so could result in personal liability. City and state want to take control The city of Klagenfurt and the state of Carinthia want to stand together and take the helm at the airport again.

FACC AG with increased sales in the first quarter of 2023

The Austrian aviation supplier FACC AG was able to increase sales by 2023 percent to 27,6 million euros in the first quarter of 162,7. The group speaks of a difficult environment, as the strong inflation is not making life any easier for the entire industry. An easing of the international supply chains is expected for the full year 2023. As is usual in the industry, inflation-related cost increases are only passed on to the market with a delay of up to a year. From today's perspective, a higher demand for new aircraft is confirmed, which will lead to further rate increases for all major aircraft models. With the exception of China, passenger numbers on short- and medium-haul flights (continental travel) have already returned to pre-pandemic levels. This growth trend will continue and passenger numbers in China are also rising again after the relaxation of the strict COVID rules. Only the volume of international travel has not yet reached pre-crisis levels. The predictions of FACC management (from 2020) that aviation will fully recover by the end of 2024 have been confirmed. The focus is on further increasing sales in the core business and expanding production capacities. In the 2023 financial year, around EUR 34,8 million will be invested in FACC's planned growth. This includes tripling the area of the FACC plant in Croatia, which will go into operation in 2022. FACC is conducting intensive research into technologies and materials that will make a significant contribution to the transformation of the aviation industry towards CO2-free aviation mobility. This includes, in particular, the establishment of a sustainable material cycle management system; FACC lightweight construction and product solutions will thus make a significant contribution to the aviation industry's goal of CO2-free flying.

Brussels Airlines with a quarterly loss of 44 million euros

Brussels Airlines closed the first quarter with a loss of EUR 44 million, an improvement of 29% compared to the previous year. The traditionally weakest period of the year in the aviation industry was this time affected by persistently high fuel prices and exploding inflation. Brussels Airlines' revenue increased by EUR 2023 million or almost 123% year-on-year to EUR 79 million in the first quarter of 280 (previous year: EUR 157 million), thanks to a solid 37% increase in production (available seat kilometers) and an additional long-haul aircraft. In the first three months of 2022, production was still heavily affected by the Corona crisis and was only 61% compared to 2019 levels. This percentage climbed to 2023% in the first quarter of 84 compared to the same period in 2019. Operating expenses increased by a total of EUR 123 million or +54% to EUR 350 million (previous year: EUR 227 million), mainly due to higher production-related volume costs such as airport fees and charges or fuel consumption, price-related increases in fuel costs as well as inflation and the full impact of automatic salary indexation. As a result, adjusted EBIT in the reporting period amounted to EUR -44 million (previous year: EUR -62 million).
