Chamber of Commerce warns of counterfeit branded goods in holiday countries

Many holidaymakers are familiar with this situation: beach vendors in many countries offer all kinds of goods. At markets, bazaars and in small shops, supposedly branded goods are available at negotiable and reasonable prices. Most people are aware that these are often counterfeits, but greed for a bargain often wins out. The Chamber of Commerce warns. A cheap T-shirt with a brand logo from Mallorca, a luxury watch from the beach in Turkey or a perfectly imitated handbag from a street vendor in Paris: counterfeit goods are being sold in large quantities, especially as the holiday season begins. Souvenirs from holidays include supposedly branded clothing, handbags, sunglasses, watches and shoes. "The holiday season is the peak season for brand and product piracy - a business that hurts local entrepreneurs in particular and puts billions into the pockets of product counterfeiters," says Margarete Gumprecht, chairwoman of the trade division at the Vienna Chamber of Commerce. Although the bargain price counts for many holidaymakers, this is precisely the main approach. "Even if it is tempting, you should think twice before buying a fake handbag or sunglasses. The supposedly cheap goods are often only a bargain at first glance. Counterfeits not only damage the domestic economy and destroy jobs in our country, they are often cheap and produced under poor working conditions, of poor quality and not worth even the little money," says the trade chairwoman. If a product is only half as expensive or costs a third of the usual price, it is usually not genuine: "The perfume from a luxury brand or the luxury handbag from

BGH awards compensation for late connections outside the EU

The German Federal Court of Justice has ruled that airlines are obliged to pay compensation even if the delay only occurred on a partial segment outside the European Union and is operated by another carrier. The decisive factor, however, is that it is a continuous booking that starts or ends in an EU country. The new BGH ruling does not apply to self-arranged trips that include individual tickets for each flight segment. The BGH determined that it is relevant that it is a continuous booking with an airline that has issued a uniform ticket in accordance with the EU Air Passenger Rights Regulation. If the delay only occurs on a partial segment outside the European Union or is caused by a non-EU partner airline, this is irrelevant according to the German Supreme Court. The Federal Court of Justice overturned the decisions of the two lower courts, which took the opposite view.

Alltours wants to offer more Tunisia package tours

The German tour operator Alltours wants to offer significantly more package tours to Tunisia in the future. This is also said to be related to generally rising prices in classic holiday regions. So far, this North African state has played only a minor role at Alltours. Head of Strategy Ronny de Clerq told various media that the company would "significantly increase" its commitment to Tunisia in the coming years. The price-performance ratio in this country is "great". To this end, Tunisian Travel Service has been hired as a so-called incoming agency, effective November 1, 2023. The cooperation with Best Time Travel will expire at the end of the 2023 summer season.

Sick on vacation? ÖGB gives valuable tips

When can you go on vacation? What happens if you get sick during your vacation? And can your vacation expire? An ÖGB labor law expert provides information The summer vacation season is just around the corner and hundreds of thousands of employees are starting an extended, well-deserved break. The unions and the ÖGB are currently asking a lot of questions about vacation. ÖGB labor law expert Michael Trinko answers the most important questions on oegb.at: How to take vacation properly! In principle, you are entitled to five weeks of paid vacation for each working year or calendar year. "But I can't go on vacation whenever I want. Vacation must be agreed between the employee and the employer. Even if a company vacation is agreed, the vacation must be approved. And: Sending someone on compulsory vacation is prohibited," says Trinko. Sick on vacation If you get sick on vacation, "you should go to the doctor - not only to get treatment, but also to be able to provide your employer with a certificate in the event of incapacity to work," emphasizes the ÖGB labor law expert: "This also makes sense on vacation. Because if you are sick for more than three days, your vacation days will not be deducted." "However, the prerequisite for this is that you report your illness immediately after three days of illness at the latest and present the sick leave certificate when you return to work." Attention: The vacation is not extended by the number of days you were sick, the originally agreed vacation end date remains unchanged. Money instead of vacation? Can you get vacation days paid out instead of going on vacation? No, a cash payment would defeat the purpose of the vacation

As part of the security police assistance mission, an average of over 1.100 soldiers were deployed at the border every day, 310 monitored vulnerable objects in Vienna, and on a total of 52 days, 568 soldiers helped with missions following natural disasters. Around 130 hours of flight time were flown. Supporting the health authorities with regard to the Covid 19 pandemic was also one of the tasks of the Federal Army in 2022. By May 390, around 15 soldiers had supported the health authorities with entry controls, Covid-19 tests, the operation of vaccination centers, and contact tracing. During demining service missions, 31.249 kilograms of war material were recovered and destroyed. A total of 985 reports of war relics were submitted to the demining service. "Our soldiers did an extraordinary job in 2022. Whether at home or abroad, at the border or in disaster relief - each and every one of them can look back with pride on their performance last year. In addition, our soldiers always have the chance to expand their skills and abilities and to apply them successfully in missions through many training and further education opportunities," said Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner. Luxair becomes European B737 Max-7 launching customer

The Boeing 737 Max 7 does not yet have FAA approval and the exact date of the expected approval has not yet been set. However, it has now been announced that Luxair will act as the European launch customer. The small carrier will thus become the first European operator of the smallest Max variant. While the Max 8 and the larger Max 9 are in active scheduled service with many airlines, the situation is different for the smallest and largest variants (Max 7 and Max 10). These have not yet been approved by the FAA and other aviation authorities. However, after a long struggle, a compromise was reached regarding a new US safety regulation, because otherwise different type ratings would have been necessary for the Max 8/9 and Max 7/10. This would have lost an important selling point. In total, Luxair is waiting for the delivery of eight B737 Max. Two leased Max 8s will soon be joining the fleet. The Max-7 has also been ordered and will even be the European launch customer. "We continue to invest in Luxair's growth and this agreement for four Boeing 737-7s is another step towards securing a long-term future for our national airline. This aircraft type is a perfect fit for Luxair and meets the requirements of the market," said Giles Feith, Managing Director of Luxair. The carrier's fleet currently consists of four Boeing 737-700s and 800-8s, eleven de Havilland Dash 400-190s and two wet-leased Embraer 145s. In the past, Embraer 737s were also in operation, but these have already been retired. The fleet will soon be expanded by two B8-Max-XNUMXs, which will be purchased via a lessor. In the medium term, the NG models are to be replaced by

Turku Airport celebrates first e-plane landing

On Friday, June 16, 2023, an electric aircraft was welcomed at Turku Airport with the traditional ceremonial water salute for its first flight. On board the aircraft were the CEO of the airport company Finavia, Kimmo Mäki, and the pilot and flight instructor Antti Kirjavainen. "It was a historic moment when the wheels of an electric aircraft touched the surface of the runway and opened a new chapter for the future of the airport. The entire aviation sector must use all possible means to reduce emissions. Quiet and emission-free electric aircraft are a part of the aviation industry's climate solution," says Kimmo Mäki. Since 2017, Finavia has been working on the development of electric aviation, for example through cooperation with the Helsinki Electric Aircraft Association. The information gained about electric aviation has helped Finavia, among other things, prepare the charging infrastructure. "The electric aircraft that landed at Turku Airport today is a two-seater Pipistrel Alpha Electro. It was specifically developed for training purposes. Due to its short take-off distance and high take-off speed, the aircraft is very well suited to small airports,” says Janne Vasama, Chairman of the Electric Aircraft Association. Electric aircraft play an important role in the climate solution for air transport, but they alone will not revolutionize its future. It is believed that electric aircraft are best suited for short distances and small passenger numbers. Currently, the range of electric aircraft is 120 kilometers when there are only a few passengers on board. The key to reducing emissions in air transport is replacing kerosene with fossil-free propulsion, i.e.

Baby is born in KLM's Boeing 777

One baby was in a particularly big hurry to be born on board KLM flight KL18 on June 2023, 588. The toddler was born on board the Boeing 777-200 with the registration PH-BQI. For this reason, the flight was diverted to Barcelona. Pregnant women are actually no longer allowed to travel on commercial aircraft after a certain week. However, some - for a variety of reasons - do not comply with this and sometimes there are "premature babies" who suddenly want to see the light of day much earlier than the doctors predicted and, of all places, above the clouds at cruising altitude. KLM flight KL588 was en route from Lagos (Nigeria) to Amsterdam-Schiphol on June 18, 2023. At first it was a routine flight without any abnormalities. However, one woman went into labor in the Mediterranean region. The crew supported her as best they could, and a child was born shortly afterwards. According to official information, the baby was born in one of the galleys. The captain reported the birth to air traffic control and asked for a stopover. The Spanish ATC assigned him to Barcelona airport. It was also reported that there was now one more passenger on board, as both the mother and her newborn child were doing well. The KLM Boeing 777-200 was then able to land on runway 02 in the Catalan capital. A medical team was already waiting there for the new mother and her baby. The flight to Amsterdam-Schiphol was then continued later. The long-haul aircraft
