During the landing of Trade Air flight C3814, the Saab 340 with registration SP-KPL operated by Sprint Air had a technical problem with the braking system on June 18, 2023. This resulted in the turboprop aircraft veering sideways off the runway at low speed. The aircraft was on a domestic flight from Zagreb to Osijekt and was anything but well booked. According to official information, there was only one passenger on board, who, like the three crew members, remained unharmed. According to Trade Air, the aircraft is also undamaged. Westjet is also dissolving holiday airline Sunwing

The Canadian leisure airline Sunwing Airlines has been given an expiration date by owner Westjet. The carrier is to be merged into the parent company within two years and thus effectively dissolved. Just a few days ago, Westjet announced that it would be giving up the low-cost carrier Swoop, which has so far been positioned in the ULCC sector, at the end of the 2023 summer flight schedule period. The subsidiary will be merged into the parent company. The aircraft and the employees will be taken over. An agreement to this effect was previously reached with the unions. According to the Canadian Press, the leisure airline Sunwing Airlines is now to suffer a similar fate. However, it has more time, as the step is to be completed sometime within the next two years. Westjet wants to continue to sell package tours under the Sunwing brand, but the flight operations will then only be carried out by the parent company. The employees and the aircraft are to be taken over.

Flyone turns his back on Heathrow

The low-cost airline Flyone will no longer fly to Heathrow Airport in the United Kingdom, but to Luton and Stansted instead. When asked, the carrier did not provide any information on the reasons for the "change" or the increases. The airline has not flown to Heathrow for very long anyway. Business there has apparently developed differently than hoped. Luton will be connected to Chișinău seven times a week, effective June 23, 2023. This means that there will be two more rotations per week. From the beginning of August 2023, Flyone will fly daily between the capital of the Republic of Moldova and Stansted Airport. The Heathrow service, which has not been around for all that long, will be discontinued.

Belgrade: Air Serbia now flies to Palermo and Ohrid

For a few days now, Air Serbia has been offering non-stop flights between Belgrade and Palermo. These will be operated on Wednesdays and Saturdays. ATR72s are usually used. "The combination of history, tradition, culture and entertainment makes Palermo a very attractive holiday destination, appealing to both active holidaymakers and those who prefer to relax on the beach with a book. By introducing a direct connection to this city, travelers can reach this Italian island in less than two hours. With the direct flights to Catania, which we recently introduced, passengers have the opportunity to combine flights and get to know the whole of Sicily. We are convinced that many will take advantage of this opportunity," said Boško Rupić, General Manager Commercial and Strategy, Air Serbia. Also new to the route network is the connection to Ohrid from Belgrade. This will be operated with ATR72s on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. "When choosing travel destinations, travelers pay close attention to their accessibility. A direct flight connection is often a decisive factor. With this in mind, since the beginning of 2023, we have expanded our route network to include more than 20 cities in Europe, North America, Asia and Africa that we did not yet fly to in 2022. From today, you can also reach Ohrid with direct flights from Air Serbia. We believe that the new route will be interesting for passengers and will motivate them to spend their holidays on the Macedonian freshwater sea," said Boško Rupić, General Manager Commercial and Strategy, Air Serbia.

Analysis: Frankfurt-Hahn Airport is particularly unpopular with passengers

Strikes, a NATO air operation and staff shortages have already tested passengers' patience this year. But which airports are particularly unpopular with travelers? According to a recent analysis, Frankfurt-Hahn Airport is said to be the "red lantern". To mark the start of this year's holiday season, the passenger rights portal Airhelp has again examined the ratings of the 20 German airports with more than 500 Google reviews and ranked them based on popularity. One year after the last analysis, eleven of the 20 airports are rated at least 0,1 stars worse. Frankfurt Hahn is the least popular in 2023 Last place goes to the former US military airport Frankfurt Hahn with 3,0 out of 5 stars from almost 4.800 reviews, losing 2022 stars compared to 0,3. The airport itself, on the other hand, sees itself as one of the most important airports with many plus points. Berlin-Brandenburg Airport is no longer in last place in the ranking, but climbs to second to last. However, with almost 25.000 ratings, only 3,2 out of 5 stars were awarded, as was the case last year - meaning that the capital's airport will receive the same rating as in 2022. Last year, Hannover, Dortmund and Weeze were in third-to-last place, each with 3,7 stars. This year, Cologne-Bonn Airport is in third place with 3,5 stars from almost 13.000 ratings. Smaller airports are the most popular with passengers First place in this year's airport ranking is shared by three smaller airports, each with 4,3 stars: Münster-Osnabrück, Friedrichshafen and Nuremberg. FMO thus defends its first place from last year with 1.100 ratings, but has 0,1
