High temperatures: This keeps dogs, cats and birds from getting too hot

A nice spot for the guinea pigs on the cool lawn, a cooling down for the dog in the refreshing river or an airy summer home for the budgies on the balcony - be careful, this is a life-threatening situation! Anyone who wants to do something good for their animal companions on these hot days can inadvertently harm them. The Vienna Animal Welfare Ombudsman shows the five biggest mistakes when dealing with dogs, cats and the like in hot weather and reveals how pet owners can properly refresh their charges. 1. Dogs: Jump into the cool water Whether in the bathing lake at the holiday resort or on the river bank in the city: these days, jumping into the water is also a welcome refreshment for dogs. But be careful: overheated dogs should never jump into cold water. This can rupture the aorta, which leads to the dog's death within a few moments! There are also many dogs who are not born water rats. They should not be "forced to refresh" by splashing them with water or even throwing them in. Instead, the Viennese animal protection ombudswoman Eva Persy advises: "Please find a flat entry point where the dog can go into the water independently and at its own pace at any time - and also out again." 2. Cats: Fresh breeze at the open window As soon as the temperatures finally drop in the evening, the windows and balcony doors in the apartments are thrown open. The light breeze is good for humans and animals. But be careful: If the windows and balconies are unsecured, the space in the fresh air can quickly become fatal for indoor cats. In Vienna, around 15 cats a day are injured during the warm season as a result of

Costa upgrades fleet with Starlink Internet

The shipping company Costa is currently equipping its fleet with elite internet systems from the US provider SpaceX. The first ship on which this type of WiFi can already be offered is the Toscana. According to the company, the aim is to be able to offer passengers on cruises stable WiFi internet even in remote regions. For this reason, the fleet will be equipped with SpaceX's Starlink technology by the end of this year. Travelers on the Toscana can already use this. The Smeralda will also be upgraded shortly. Costa currently expects the work to be completed by the end of December 2023. "Costa is continuously committed to innovative solutions that improve on-board service and exceed the expectations of guests and crew. Thanks to the revolutionary capabilities of the Starlink satellites with their low orbit, our ships will have access to a faster and more reliable internet connection than ever before. Our goal is to transform the way our ships are operated and to offer our guests and crew an even better experience through a combination of different technologies, services and broadband connections," says Giuseppe Carino, VP Guest Experience & Onboard Revenues at Costa Crociere. However, the use of the Internet services is not free. Crew members also have to pay for private use. Various packages are offered that include, for example, only WhatsApp, social media or the full Internet. It should also be possible for the Starlink Internet to be used only when needed with per-minute billing. Time-based billing models are actually considered to be yesterday's news.

Berlin: Virtual time travel before departure

Passengers can now go on a journey through time at BER airport. In the departure areas of Terminals 1 and 2, Gebr. Heinemann, in collaboration with the COLD WAR MUSEUM Berlin, is offering a new high-tech experience. At three different locations, passengers have the opportunity to experience a piece of Berlin's history from 1961 for themselves as a "360° VR history experience": "The jump" on August 15, 1961, the photo of the fleeing GDR border policeman Conrad Schumann in the western part of Berlin, went around the world as a "leap to freedom". Passengers at BER can experience this event for themselves: With the latest generation of VR glasses, which the "time travelers" put on, they go to Bernauer Strasse in 1961 at the individual stations. There they either take the perspective of the border guard or that of the photographer who captured this moment in the world-famous photo: completely in line with the principle of the COLD WAR MUSEUM Berlin 'Two sides of the same story'. Tickets for this 360° VR journey through time are available on site for 12 euros. In line with the campaign, Gebr. Heinemann is offering the new collection of the COLD WAR MUSEUM Berlin in its duty-free shops at BER. The products can be ordered by cell phone, for example, and sent to the desired home address. This avoids additional hand luggage. The spacesuit of the Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin is on display in a large museum display case directly on the market square in Terminal 1. He was the first person in space on April 12, 1961, four months before the border policeman's "jump". The spacesuit is on display
