Virgin Australia allows luggage to be tracked via an app

After around two years of development, the airline Virgin Australia has launched a new smartphone tool that will enable passengers to track their luggage. This was tested from May 2023 and has now been rolled out generally. Initially, the new service will be available on around two-thirds of the domestic network. It is still largely unavailable on international flights. Passengers will receive notifications about the current location of their suitcases via the carrier's app. Passengers will also be informed in this way about the respective collection belt. Virgin Australia admits that while this tool cannot completely rule out the loss of luggage, it should be able to make nervous passengers a little more relaxed. The carrier currently has a loss or misrouting rate of 1,5 items per 1.000 passengers. "We know the risk of lost luggage is a concern for travellers around the world and we expect today's announcement will give many guests the peace of mind of knowing where their luggage is at every step of the journey," said Paul Jones, Chief Customer and Digital Officer of the Virgin Australia Group. Competitor Qantas has already announced that it will make a similar tool available in the app by the end of this year.

Iraqi Airways has picked up the last Airbus A220-300 for the time being

Iraqi Airways recently took delivery of its fifth Airbus A220-300. The aircraft, registered YI-ARH, is the last unit of this order for now. The jet was transferred from Mirabel to Baghdad via Oslo. In December 2013, the Iraqi carrier decided to order five aircraft, which were then still marketed as Bombardier CS-300s. It currently holds eleven options for this aircraft type. These have not yet been exercised, so it is possible that more A220-300s could be sold to Baghdad. Bombardier sold the majority of the C-Series program to Airbus in 2017. Less than a year later, the Europeans decided that this series would now be marketed as the A220. The Canadian company is no longer involved in what is now Airbus Canada. Iraqi Airways took delivery of the five A220-300s between November 2021 and the end of August 2023. The introduction into service has not been entirely problem-free, as it was only in May 2023 that Iraq ordered a temporary flight ban due to problems with the PW1500G engines. This has since been lifted, but to date only the YI-ARE and the YI-ARF have been brought back into scheduled flight operations.
