Norwegian considering B737 Max 10 launch

The low-cost airline Norwegian Air Shuttle is once again considering adding the Boeing 737 Max 10 to its fleet. Up to 30 options that are considered for the smaller Max 8 variant could be converted. As part of the presentation of the latest quarterly figures, company boss Geir Karlsen explained that the company has now come to the conclusion that the Boeing 737 Max 10 may be a better fit for Norwegian than previously thought. The company is currently waiting for the delivery of 50 B737 Max 8s and has options for up to 30 more. In this context, Karlsen said that the purchase rights could at least partially be converted to the longer variant. The company currently has 16 B737 Max 8s in its fleet and expects to be able to take on numerous more units this year and next year. A long time ago, under the old management, Norwegian was very enthusiastic about the Max 10. This changed, however, as Karlsen also said that six months ago they had come to the conclusion that this model was unsuitable for the route portfolio. Now they have received further information and this seems to have convinced Norwegian Air Shuttle. The company boss confirmed that they are "seriously considering" adding the Boeing 737 Max 10 to the fleet. He specified that this model would have around 225 seats. The decisive factor for or against an order is likely to be the purchase price, which can be negotiated with Boeing.

Nuremberg Airport enjoys high summer demand

In the first half of the Bavarian summer holidays, Nuremberg Airport was used by 710.000 passengers. This has already exceeded the previous year's volume, as in the same period in 2022 there were 706.000 travelers. Airport director Michael Hupe believes that the growth achieved this year is also due to the expanded summer flight schedule. 62 destinations are currently served by 28 airlines. "The high demand is a confirmation of our efforts to offer the widest possible range of services," says Managing Director Michael Hupe, who has already announced a winter flight schedule that is also diverse. In the first three weeks of the summer holidays, 373.840 passengers flew to and from Nuremberg, over 9.000 more than in the same period last year. The busiest day so far was August 15, 2023 with 17.626 passengers. The aircraft utilization rate is on average around 90 percent higher than last year. The most popular destination remains the Turkish bathing paradise of Antalya, which is served by seven airlines and has around 130.000 passengers alone. Mallorca is also in high demand with almost 85.000 passengers. Istanbul and Frankfurt follow in the ranking as international hubs, as well as Heraklion on Crete. The 2023 winter flight schedule focuses on destinations in Turkey, the Canary Islands and Egypt. New are Etihad Holidays charter flights to Abu Dhabi, operated by Smartwings. The providers Condor and Eurowings intend to expand their offerings from Nuremberg. The latter carrier will now fly to Marsa Alam, among other places.

After an air raid from Israel: Aleppo airport runway badly damaged

The Syrian airport in Aleppo had to be taken offline for an indefinite period because the runway was significantly damaged. This is said to be the result of an air strike carried out by the Israeli Air Force. The Syrian Ministry of Defense reported via a state news agency that the runway was shot at in the early morning of August 28, 2023 at around 4:30 a.m. The fighter jets from Israel are said to have entered Syrian airspace near the city of Latakia. The main target of the attack was Aleppo International Airport and the Al-Nayrab air base, which Israel suspects is a logistical center for the Iranian-backed militias. This is not the first time that Israel has carried out air strikes against aviation targets in Syria. In the last 12 months alone, Aleppo Airport has been attacked five times and most of them had to be taken offline for some time. According to official information, the damage this time is quite extensive, so that extensive repairs will be necessary. Israel has more or less admitted to the attack, but has not specified which type of aircraft was used in the attack. Possible aircraft are F-15 Eagle, F-16 Fighting Falcon or F-35 Lightning II. A few years ago, Israel caused a stir worldwide because it was the first nation to use the F-35 for attacks. The F-35 "Adir" flew air strikes in Lebanon and Syria.
