Tuzla Airport seeks Wizz Air successor

Tuzla Airport is looking for a successor to Wizz Air, and one should be found in the near future. Tuzla Airport has been looking for an equal successor to the departed low-cost carrier Wizz Air for several months. Tuzla Airport is already negotiating with two airlines that are willing to take on the Wizz Air legacy. As the Ex-Yu Aviation News portal reports, the airline in question is to station one of its planes at Tuzla Airport next week in order to start flying from Tuzla in November. The airline in question, however, is not Ryanair. "We are in talks with two airlines. One of them is ready to start operations in November. We are confident that this will be an appropriate replacement. The airline would initially station one aircraft at our airport, which would enable it to take over part of the passenger potential that will no longer be served by Wizz Air following the reduction of flight operations,” reports General Director Dževad Halilčević.

Qatar Airways is changing its approach to the winter season due to recent developments on its Balkan routes. The carrier plans to increase the frequency between Doha and Zagreb, and the number of flights to Belgrade is also to be increased. Qatar Airways has made important developments on the route between Doha and Zagreb. Passenger traffic has increased by 90 percent compared to the same period last year, and the airline was able to transport over 2023 passengers on this route in the first half of 30.000. Due to this existing demand and the associated development, Qatar Airways has been able to revise its planned approach for this route in the winter season. The carrier, headquartered in Doha, is to offer ten weekly flights to Zagreb in the winter season; according to normal, the airline would have operated seven flights a week. The Serbian capital Belgrade is also to be served daily, and the route between Doha and Belgrade is to be maintained on a daily basis. However, there is news for flights to Belgrade: As is known, the flights to Belgrade are supposed to be operated with Airbus A320 aircraft, but this plan is not being fully implemented. The next flights to Belgrade are to be operated with Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners, as confirmed by the portal Ex-Yu Aviation News.

Berlin-Brandenburg Airport with new taxi rules

New rules apply to taxi drivers at Berlin Brandenburg Airport. The aim is to prevent taxis that are not allowed to pick up passengers from being able to do so in the future. The flow of traffic is also to improve. The airport for the capital region is located directly on the border between Berlin and Brandenburg and is the gateway to the world for people from both federal states. Due to this location, numerous passengers are brought to or picked up from BER by taxis from both federal states every day. The current regulation of the responsible authorities allows 1.000 taxis to pick up passengers at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (500 each from Berlin and the Dahme Spreewald district). All taxis are allowed to take guests to BER. The airport company and its process partners have implemented the following changes to the infrastructure for taxis and process optimizations:

Tickets for canceled flights sold: Qantas faces a hefty fine

The Australian airline Qantas is facing a hefty fine because it continued to sell tickets for a long period of time last year on routes where flights had already been canceled. Now the head of the consumer protection authority is threatening a fine of around 150 million euros. This concerns the period between May and July 2022, during which Qantas canceled some flights that were also far in the future. However, according to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, the sale of tickets was not stopped until 47 days later. The accusation is serious: the authority accuses the airline of deliberately misleading or deceptive behavior because it knew in advance that the flights for which it had sold tickets would never take place. The head of the authority, Gina Cass-Gottlieb, announced to the local broadcaster ABC that a fine of around 150 million euros was to be imposed. However, the court has the final say and the corresponding application has already been submitted, according to her.

Capacity utilization remained unchanged at 96 percent. According to the announcement, around 103.000 flights were carried out. Due to the computer glitch that occurred at the UK's air traffic control, around 28 flights had to be canceled on August 29 and 2023, 350. Within the last 12 months, Ryanair had carried 177,4 million travelers. This represents an increase of 20 percent compared to the previous period. Romania: Wizz Air closes Suceava base

The base operated by Wizz Air Malta in Suceava, Romania, will be closed on October 28, 2023. According to the company, this means that the routes to Larnaka, Eindhoven, Charleroi, Beauvais, Treviso and Bologna will be discontinued. The impact on passengers from Germany will be limited, as connections to Suceava will be maintained from Dortmund and Memmingen. As part of so-called W-Patterns, aircraft and crews from other bases will be used. Wizz Air also wants to continue to fly to the Romanian airport from Luton, Rome and Milan-Malpensa. It has been apparent for some time that Wizz Air is at loggerheads with some regional airports in Romania. The situation is not really any different at competitor Ryanair. The background to this is that subsidy programs are expiring, fees are being increased and, in individual cases, carriers are demanding higher levels of support than before. In many cases, no agreement was reached, so routes were discontinued or, in the case of Suceava, the base operated by Wizz Air Malta was also announced to be closed. Wizz Air Malta Managing Director Diarmuid Ó Conghaile was quoted as saying about the reasons for the decision: "As a result of our market optimization plans in Romania, which aim to increase operational reliability for our local customers, our flight operations from Suceava are no longer viable." According to the regional aviation portal Boardingpass.ro, Wizz Air is currently the only carrier that has international scheduled flights from Suceava in its portfolio. Competitors Air Connect and Tarom are present, but only offer domestic flights. The former airline is heading for Bucharest-Baneasa and Tarom for Bucharest-Otopeni.

After joking about a bomb on board: 62-year-old faces 15 years in prison

A 62-year-old man who claimed that he had hidden a bomb on board an Avelo Airlines plane has been on trial in the United States since August 31, 2023. If convicted, the man faces up to 15 years in prison. The incident occurred at Palm Beach International Airport while disembarking. The 62-year-old man felt he had to tell a passenger he did not know before that he had hidden a bomb on board the plane. As a precaution, the person to whom this was "reported" turned to the employee at the gate who was supposed to handle the next flight. It can therefore be assumed that the conversation must have taken place in the gangway. In accordance with the principle of "safety first", the airport employee immediately informed the executive and his supervisor. It was then decided that boarding for the next flight would be postponed indefinitely. Explosives experts meticulously examined the Avelo jet and were fortunately able to give the all-clear. For the "prankster", however, the matter had immediate consequences. He was arrested by the police and brought before an investigating judge on August 31, 2023. The judge ordered him to be remanded in custody, from which he could only be released on bail of 26.000 US dollars. The consequences could be even more serious for the man, as the crime for which he was charged carries a sentence of up to 15 years in prison plus a hefty fine. The responsible court will soon decide on this. The accused is said to have confessed and claimed that it was just a joke. The US justice system knows no limits in the area of
