Ural Airlines wants to fly Airbus A320 from the field

The Airbus A320 that landed in a field in Russia on September 12, 2023 due to a technical problem is now to take off again and be transferred to an airport. According to Ural Airlines, the engines were checked on site and it was determined that they did not need to be overhauled. The simplest and cheapest solution would therefore be to simply start the medium-haul jet, which has remained on the Russian field since the emergency landing, there. Airline technicians have already cleared the engine power area of soil, straw and other debris. The engines and the aircraft were then meticulously examined and it was concluded that nothing could stand in the way of a takeoff from the field. Before that, however, they want to take a closer look at some components and the landing gear. Ural Airlines is also considering removing the seats. This should reduce the takeoff weight of the Airbus A320. So far, there is no experience of how a machine of this type can be started on unpaved ground, in a field to be precise. The machine with the registration RA-73805 had to make an emergency landing on a field near Novosibirsk on September 12, 2023. The machine was actually on its way from Sochi to Omsk. Due to the failure of the hydraulic system, the plan was to divert to Novosibirsk. However, there was no longer enough kerosene, which is why the captain of flight U61383 had to decide that an emergency landing had to be made in a field. This was successful, because all passengers and crew members

EU Commission blocks Etravali takeover – Ryanair pleased

The EU Commission has not yet approved the planned takeover of Etraveli by Booking.com. The low-cost airline Ryanair is pleased about this in a press release, as it fears that a large OTA would otherwise be created. For many years, Ryanair has been taking legal action against so-called online travel agents that use screen scraping. The company welcomes the temporary ban on the takeover of Etraveli by Booking.com, as the low-cost airline believes that the merger could lead to "more consumers having to pay excessive prices for their flights if the two digital giants are allowed to merge."

Star Alliance founding member SAS is moving to Skyteam

The airline SAS is one of the founding members of the Star Alliance airline alliance. But it has now been announced that it will leave and move to Skyteam. The background to this is also that a consortium around Air France-KLM is involved. The Star Alliance was founded in 1997 by United Airlines, Thai Airways, Lufthansa, Air Canada and SAS. The alliance is now considered the largest of its kind in the world. The Scandinavian member will move to Skyteam, which has existed since 2000, in the foreseeable future. SAS boss Anko van der Werff has not yet given a specific date for the alliance change. This will happen in due course, said the manager when announcing which bidder had been awarded the contract in the sales process. This would have gone to the consortium that made the highest bid. Air France-KLM will receive 19,9 percent of SAS in the future. The remaining shares are distributed as follows: State of Denmark 25,8 percent, Castlelake 32 percent, Lind Invest 8,6 percent and the rest is to be distributed as free float to numerous creditors. The state of Sweden and the Wallenberg family, who are currently still significant shareholders, will no longer be involved in the future. The consequence of this new ownership structure is that SAS will reorient itself. This also includes moving to Skyteam. Air France-KLM boss Benjamin Smith described the award to the consortium in which the group he leads is represented as an important day for SAS. In the past, the Scandinavian aviation company was considered a takeover candidate for Lufthansa. There were repeated industry rumors that

TSA warns: Pets have no place in the X-ray scanner

In the United States of America, not only is it common practice to take pets on flights, but under certain circumstances there is even a right to take animals with you for emotional support. It is actually logical that dogs and cats cannot be sent through the hand luggage scanner, but this is often ignored. Many US carriers allow small pets to be taken on board, which can be stowed in a transport box under the seat in front of you. There are a few exceptions, however, which generally do not allow animals to be transported in the cabin. There is a loophole here, however, as guide dogs and assistance dogs as well as "emotional companions" are almost always allowed to be taken on board. The latter is occasionally exploited, as there have been cases of huge constrictor snakes being declared "emotional support animals". While you have a good chance of getting away with a small dog or cat, it is hardly surprising that the airline will not be very accommodating with large snakes and especially rodents. In addition, there are passengers who think they have to take their pet with them “unofficially”. In other words, they simply stow it in a carry-on bag and no one will notice. It is obvious that this type of transport is certainly not pleasant for the small pet. However, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is now warning against simply sending pets through the carry-on baggage scanners. According to a statement from the TSA, passengers with the transport box should report to a security officer. The officer will then carry out the security check. However, the TSA also states that a large number of
