Boeing 777 poser: Swiss warns three crew members

A few weeks ago, a Swiss crew caused a stir when they posed for photos on the wing of a Boeing 777 at Buenos Aires airport. The employer did not take this behavior very well. The incident was investigated internally and now the three crew members have to face consequences in the form of an official warning. Swiss intends to leave it at that, a spokeswoman confirmed to the Aargauer Zeitung. In theory, dismissal without notice would have been possible, but Swiss prefers constructive discussions and written warnings.

Virgin Australia is making a profit again after eleven years

The Australian airline Virgin Australia has managed to return to profit after an eleven-year dry spell. The carrier benefited from the particularly high demand, which is certainly an after-effect of the corona pandemic. In the current financial year, the airline has achieved a profit after tax of 129 million Australian dollars. Sales doubled compared to the previous period to 3,2 billion Australian dollars. EBIT is said to have been 439 million Australian dollars. Even before the corona pandemic, Virgin Australia had been deep in the red for many years. Company CEO Jayne Hrdlicka explained that the carrier can announce a profit for the first time in eleven years. Furthermore, the latest figures show that the transformation has been successful and that the airline is on the right track. The core of this is that it has succeeded in significantly reducing costs. Furthermore, the investment in modern technologies has paid off. While demand from business travelers is still well below pre-crisis levels, there are record booking figures in the private sector. This would be due, among other things, to the fact that there would be a great deal of catching up to do in the aftermath of the corona pandemic, which was characterized by particularly strict restrictions in Australia at times. Virgin Australia assumes that demand will continue to be at a high level. However, it has also noticed that travelers are specifically looking for inexpensive flight tickets. The price-performance ratio would play a very important role for more and more passengers. The company sees itself as being optimally positioned in this segment.

Germany commissions Lufthansa for Israel repatriation flights

On behalf of the German Foreign Ministry, Lufthansa will operate evacuation flights from Tel Aviv to Germany on Thursday and Friday. According to official information, four repatriation flights are planned per day. Lufthansa suspended regular scheduled flights a few days ago for security reasons. This will remain the case, as the special flights are operated for the Foreign Office. The seats are therefore allocated by the client and cannot be booked generally. Other countries were much quicker in organizing repatriation flights or are relying on military aircraft. For example, Austria is initially having the Federal Army fly a Lockheed C-130 from Tel Aviv to Paphos. From there, the flights will continue with civilian aircraft. Switzerland, on the other hand, has commissioned Swiss to operate repatriation flights. Since more and more airlines are no longer flying to airports in Israel for security reasons, the number of regular flights is currently very low. For example, El Al is trying to continue flying. In contrast to carriers from Europe, its fleet has a missile defense system that is intended to provide additional security. The German Foreign Ministry also announced that it is in negotiations with those carriers that still fly to Tel Aviv about increasing capacity. It also explained that the repatriation operation will be carried out according to priority and that travelers must also note that it may not be possible to organize non-stop flights, but rather connecting flights. Some tour operators transport their customers out of the country by land and sea in order to be able to fly them home from a foreign airport. In any case, the German Foreign Ministry requests that German citizens,

That's why you have to check in when flying, but not when traveling by train

To board a commercial aircraft as a passenger, you must be in possession of a valid boarding pass. This is obtained at check-in, which can now be done online in many cases. But why can't boarding passes be issued in one process with the booking? In the world of aviation, check-in plays a crucial role in getting passengers to their destination smoothly and safely. But why do air travelers have to go through this seemingly time-consuming step, while such processes do not exist in rail transport? Why is check-in necessary? Check-in in aviation serves several purposes, all of which help to ensure orderly and safe flight operations. One of the main reasons is to verify passenger identity and security. Legislation and regulations set by aviation authorities around the world require airlines to ensure that only authorized persons board their aircraft. The check-in process: There are several ways to check in: Internet check-in: This method allows passengers to confirm their flight from the comfort of their home or on the go via the Internet. This involves verifying the airline, flight number, travel details and the passenger's identity. After successful verification, the passenger can print out the boarding pass or download a mobile boarding pass to their smartphone. Automated check-in: Many airports offer self-service terminals where passengers can check in. Similar to internet check-in, the flight details and passenger identity must be entered. The machine then issues the boarding pass. What is checked during check-in? During check-in, especially at the airport counter, the staff checks
