Flyv wants to station its first aircraft in Sweden

The German electric start-up Flyv has announced that it will build its first base at the Swedish Norrköping Airport. At least one Tecnam P2012 is to be stationed at this airport from the end of 2024. The Stuttgart-based company wants to offer regional flight services with 9-seater, electrically powered aircraft. Quarterly figures: Pratt & Whitney with a loss of $2,5 billion

The US engine manufacturer Pratt & Whitney is deep in the red. The parent company RTX had to announce a loss of 984 million US dollars for the third quarter of the current financial year. By comparison: In the same quarter last year, the company earned 1,4 billion US dollars. The group result was largely dragged down by the Pratt & Whitney engine division, which had to announce an operating loss of 2,5 billion US dollars. Sales were only 926 million US dollars - around 83 percent less than in the third quarter of the previous financial year. The financial misery is due to the recall of almost all GTF engines. The disks contain a metal powder that has proven to be problematic. These engines are mainly used in the Airbus A320neo aircraft type. Since Pratt & Whitney cannot deliver replacement engines quickly enough, numerous carriers have already had to shut down parts of their A320neo series aircraft. Other types of aircraft are also indirectly affected, as the manufacturer is focusing heavily on the GTF problem and as a result there are also delays in delivery of other engines. It is not expected that the problems can be resolved within a short period of time. Pratt & Whitney currently assumes that it will take around three years until all engines are overhauled. On average, around 350 aircraft per year will not be available during this period. Only those aircraft in the A320neo series that are equipped with engines from this manufacturer are affected. Those that rely on the competitor's Leap, for example, are not affected. The financial result of the RTX Group is in any case

Jetblue wants to see Air France-KLM banned from New York-JFK

The US budget airline Jetblue has now spoken out about the Dutch government's limit on flights from Amsterdam-Schiphol, which is to come into force next year for "noise protection reasons". It says it has sent a letter to the US Department of Transportation. Jetblue is of the opinion that the limit intended by the Dutch government would violate the existing air transport agreement concluded between the European Union and the United States of America.

Poland: Vinci and IFM participate in future central airport

The companies Vinci Airports and IFM Global Infrastructure Fund have been selected as preferred investors in Poland for the construction of the planned new central airport near Warsaw. The two companies are to invest around eight billion Polish zloty. The construction of the new airport is considered a prestige project of the current government. The new building is currently planned to go online in 2028. The state carrier Lot is to develop this airport into a major hub. In this context, it was recently announced that this airline wants to significantly expand its fleet. The new building will have a capacity for around 40 million passengers and one million tons of freight per year, according to a spokesman for the state-owned CPK. It is a civilian project, but military use is also planned. From the opening, the central airport will be connected to the largest cities in Poland by rail and long-distance buses. It is assumed that one or two regional airports that are currently connected to Warsaw-Chopin will in future only be connected to the planned major airport by land. A final decision has not yet been made on the future of Chopin Airport, as there are currently various options. It could remain on the network for point-to-point traffic, be used as a general aviation site, or be taken off the network. Due to its inner-city location, the area is considered extremely valuable. The construction project also has an indirect impact on the Radom and Modlin sites. The former airport is only used very little anyway, as only Lot and, in the future, Wizz Air offer
