Autumn vacation: Travel insurance can protect against high costs

The autumn holidays are just around the corner and with them the anticipation of spa and hiking holidays, short trips and spontaneous journeys to warmer regions is growing. Comprehensive insurance cover is a good companion for travelling safely and relaxed. Hiking, wellness and spa holidays in Austria are among the most popular activities during the autumn holidays. Cancellation insurance is the right choice to protect yourself against unplanned events, such as illness. Hotel Cancellation Plus offers financial protection and support, for example in the event of a trip cancellation or interruption, an involuntary holiday extension or in the event of an emergency in the mountains. Even with careful tour planning, changes in the weather can lead to search and rescue operations, the costs of which are not fully covered by social insurance. If you have booked a trip outside of Europe, it is best to also plan the complete cover of European travel insurance with extensive benefits. Illness abroad quickly requires medical treatment on site. In the worst case, an accident can require costly transport back to Austria. In both cases, the e-card is not an adequate replacement for travel insurance. It is only accepted in public hospitals and by doctors with a health insurance contract in the member states of the European Union, as well as countries with bilateral agreements, and does not cover doctor or cancellation costs, or costs for repatriation. Travel insurance has no age limit and - if medically necessary - also covers the costs of repatriation in an ambulance jet. The trend of holidaymakers travelling in the autumn as well as summer and winter holidays is also reflected in booking behaviour: the demand for annual travel insurance is increasing. They offer a comprehensive package of services for short trips, holidays and long-distance trips and are

City Airlines: UFO fears end for Lufthansa Cityline

The flight attendants' union UFO fears that the latest Lufthansa offshoot, "City Airlines," could contribute to the rapid dissolution of the existing Lufthansa CItyline. There is no concrete evidence for this claim, but the announcement that 40 regional jets could be ordered from Embraer or Airbus for the new company is considered to be "hardly refutable facts." Furthermore: "For UFO, this only allows the conclusion that a rapid end to CityLine is planned." The new airline currently has an Airbus A319 registered to the AOC. However, it has not yet taken off commercially. This step is to be taken in summer 2024. City Airlines will initially operate the Airbus A319 aircraft. Later, it will switch to either Airbus A220 or E2 jets from competitor Embraer. Lufthansa has not yet made a final decision on this. The UFO union is quite critical of the "copy" of Lufthansa CityLine and fears that the existing regional carrier will not have a long future. Daniel Kassa Mbuambi, UFO chairman, said: "We expect a similar scenario here as with the closure of the group's flight operations Germanwings and SunExpress Germany. A new, previously untariffed platform will lead to the closure of a well-tariffed flight operation and at the same time puts all other group airlines, especially Lufthansa's cabin crew, under pressure. Lufthansa is thus once again preventing solutions at the collective bargaining table that could have secured long-term employment in its own company for the long-standing employees of the CityLine cabin crew. Now pilots and flight attendants at Lufthansa CityLine are paying a very high price for their long-term loyalty to the group." According to UFO, the

Competition Authority: Heathrow charges must be reduced

The British Civil Aviation Authority has ordered that passenger fees at London Heathrow Airport must be reduced. However, the extent is much lower than that requested by the three largest airlines. British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and Delta Air Lines had requested a reduction to 20 pounds sterling. London Heathrow Airport, on the other hand, wanted to increase the fee to over 40 pounds sterling per passenger. The Civil Aviation Authority wants a reduction from the current 31,57 pounds sterling to 25,43 pounds sterling in 2024. The competition authority, which was called in by the operator, largely confirmed the CAA's decision. Neither the airport nor the airlines, who complained about high costs, were able to prevail.

Easyjet Holidays is coming to Germany

After Switzerland, the low-cost airline Easyjet will also launch its in-house tour operator Easyjet Holidays in Germany. This was announced by CEO Johan Lundgren in Berlin on Thursday, October 26, 2023. The company has been successfully operating as a tour operator in the United Kingdom for several years. A few weeks ago it was announced that this business area would also be expanded to Switzerland, where it has a subsidiary airline with its own AOC. But it will not stop there, as the company also wants to sell its own package tours in Germany in the future. "I am very pleased to announce the planned launch of EasyJet Holidays in Germany today. The success of EasyJet Golidays in the UK has shown us that customers value quality and comfort when planning their holidays. With our in-house holiday packages, we set ourselves apart from other airlines in Germany. I am confident that our offerings will provide travellers in Germany with an unparalleled holiday experience, supported by the quality and value that EasyJet is known for," said CEO Johan Lundgren. Although the CEO made a clear commitment to Germany and the base that the company maintains at Berlin-Brandenburg Airport, he criticised the high airport fees in Germany. "We have experienced a record summer across our entire network this year, despite a challenging operating environment. Our commitment to the capital region is firm: EasyJet is Berlin's home airline! But even though we have successfully turned the tide at BER, we must recognise that the costs of the German aviation industry are still unpleasantly high. We have
