Air France-KLM consortium is allowed to join SAS

The US bankruptcy court has given the green light for a consortium, which includes Air France-KLM, Castlelake and the Danish state, to enter SAS. The Scandinavian airline had to file for bankruptcy in the United States of America last summer through its parent company SAS Group. A few weeks ago it was announced that a consortium, which also includes Air France-KLM, had been awarded the contract. It is therefore expected that SAS will leave the Star Alliance and join Skyteam. The group of various investors and the Danish state wants to invest around $1,2 billion in the carrier. However, the investment still has to be finally approved as part of SAS's plan to reorganize in early 2024. The company expects that current shareholders will not get much out of this deal. The company plans to cancel existing shares and bonds. The US court also released a loan of $500 million.

Vacations: Greece introduces expensive climate tax

Under the guise of "climate protection", the Greek government will impose another tax on tourists as early as January 1, 2024. The amount depends on the season and is between one and a maximum of six euros per day. In return, the current overnight tax will not be continued. In any case, it will be more expensive, because the so-called climate tax is more expensive than the previous local taxes. The government is of the opinion that the polluter pays principle must be followed and that additional money would be necessary to build "climate-neutral infrastructure". This is to be raised from holidaymakers. Another new development is that this climate tax is levied when renting private accommodation, for example via Airbnb or Booking.com. Here the tax depends on the quality of the accommodation, because simple rooms are to be taxed at 1,50 euros per day and guest. Holiday homes can be really expensive, because the state even wants to take ten euros per night and person. Avoiding it will be difficult, because the agents will also be held liable for the tax. In general, the amount of the climate tax also depends on the time of year. In the winter season, hotels and guest houses charge between 50 cents and a maximum of four euros per person per night. In midsummer, six euros per night may be charged. The exact amount is not determined by the hotel or landlord, but by the government. The accommodation provider is only obliged to collect the tax and pay it to the Greek tax office.
