GKB has got a new boss

The Graz-Köflacher-Bahn has a new company boss, Barbara Kleinert, on December 1, 2023. She succeeds Franz Weinträgl. "In the coming years, extensive investments to expand the railway infrastructure are planned in Styria. The completion of the Koralmbahn is progressing rapidly. At the same time, the Graz-Köflacher Bahn's route network will be fully electrified and individual sections will be expanded to two tracks. The scheduled implementation of these extraordinary investment projects is extremely demanding and requires the full strength of all the railway companies involved. A new transport services contract is also to be concluded in the near future, which will provide significant improvements in the service for commuters and will thus significantly support the mobility transition in western Styria. I am delighted to appoint Barbara Kleinert as Managing Director of the GKB; she will tackle these major tasks with full force," says Transport Minister Leonore Gewessler.

China partially lifts visa requirements

Since December 1, 2023, the People's Republic of China has allowed citizens from Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, France, Spain and Malaysia, among others, to enter the country without a visa. All that is required is a passport that is valid for at least six months. Between December 1, 2023 and November 30, 2024, people who have the aforementioned citizenship can enter the People's Republic of China for up to 15 days without a visa. According to a statement from the Foreign Ministry, this is permitted for private, tourist and business purposes.
