The airport handled 275.851 passengers, which corresponds to an increase of 11,5 percent compared to the previous year. German accommodation providers still below pre-crisis levels

German accommodation establishments had a total of 2023 million overnight stays in October 44,6. This represents an increase of 1,2 percent compared to the same period last year. Kiel Airport with a new operations manager

The northern German airport in Kiel has a new operations manager, Marcus Beurer, as of December 1, 2023. He succeeds Michael Schlaeger, who has retired. "We would like to thank Michael Schlaeger for the many years of close and good cooperation. He has played a key role in the development of Kiel Airport. We wish him all the best for the future," says Volker Prange, Managing Director of Kiel Airport GmbH. "With Mr. Breuer, an experienced pilot with first-class flying knowledge is taking over the management of operations. Most recently, as Aerodome Flight Information Officer (AFISO) and Deputy Operations Manager, he helped drive forward promising investment projects at the airport."

Verdi demands more pay for Lufthansa ground staff

The Verdi union is demanding a 12,5 percent increase in wages per month for Lufthansa's ground staff. Salaries are to increase by at least 500 euros per month. Employee representatives also want shift allowances of 3,6 percent of the basic salary to be introduced in the future. They are also demanding that one-off bonuses of 3.000 euros be paid out due to high inflation. Negotiations on the new collective agreement are to begin on January 18, 2024.

Brussels A330 damaged by apron truck in Abidjan

On December 7, 2023, the Airbus A330-300 with registration OO-SFG operated by Brussels Airlines was damaged at Abidjan Airport. Sabre: Lufthansa increases the GDS fee

Effective January 1, 2024, bookings made via the GDS system Sabre with Lufthansa Group airlines will become significantly more expensive. For several years, Lufthansa and its subsidiaries have been charging a surcharge for tickets booked via GDS systems that are mainly used by travel agencies and corporate travel offices. Gatwick: Woman dies on board BRA-A319

On December 8, 2023, a woman around 50 years old died on board a charter flight operated by Braathens Regional Airlines. The aircraft, registered SE-RGV, was en route from Kristiansand via Billund to Gran Canaria under flight number BIX504. A safety landing was made at London Gatwick Airport, but all efforts were in vain. The crew could not continue the flight to Las Palmas. The following day, a Boeing 737-800 operated by ETF Airways stepped in and brought the travelers to their destination.
