Klagenfurt: Maximilian Wildt remains airport managing director

Klagenfurt Airport will continue to be managed by Maximilian Wildt, who will be introduced as interim managing director in mid-2023. The manager was successful in a public tender. At the general meeting, the owner representatives decided to extend the contract until the end of 2028. "I congratulate Maximilian Wildt on his appointment. In recent months, he has brought stability and professionalism back to Klagenfurt Airport after very turbulent times. I am confident that with him at the helm, all energy will continue to be invested in the core business, namely flight operations. Klagenfurt Airport is a central infrastructure facility for the Carinthia location. Now it is a matter of working with the new management to make it successful again and prepare it for the future," said Deputy Governor Martin Gruber (ÖVP). "I would like to thank the owner representatives for the trust they have placed in me and look forward to working intensively with my dedicated team to lead Klagenfurt Airport into a successful future. Even though we are facing major challenges, I am absolutely convinced of the potential of our airport," says Maximilian Wildt, Managing Director at the airport. Halmstad, Skavsta, Maastricht, Saarbrücken and Esbjerg are among the destinations served by low-frequency flights. Lumiwings was able to prevail because it was the only airline to take part in the tender.

Tchibo is exiting the travel business

The German coffee roaster Tchibo is withdrawing completely from the travel business. It stopped arranging ocean cruises some time ago and now it is completely withdrawing. The reason for this is that the group posted a loss before taxes and interest of 167 million euros last year. The group's financial situation is considered to be strained. Tchibo was never able to repeat the successes it had achieved in the travel sector before the corona pandemic. First it stopped selling cruises. In the future, it will no longer arrange package tours either.

November 2023: Brussels with 1,6 million travelers

Brussels Airport had around 2023 million passengers in November 1,6. In direct comparison with the same period last year, this represents an increase of ten percent. Cargo volumes were down eight percent. In November, Brussels Airport welcomed 1.613.845 passengers, an increase of 10% compared to the same month in 2022. As the Belgian autumn holidays ended at the beginning of the month, there were more arriving than departing passengers. As in October 2023, the suspension of flights to Tel Aviv had a negative impact on passenger numbers. In November 2023, 15% of departing passengers were transfer passengers, a slight decrease that can be attributed to the general decline in transfer passengers within Europe. The ten most visited countries in November were Spain, Germany, Italy, Turkey, the United Kingdom, France, the United States, Switzerland, Morocco and Portugal. In November, total cargo volumes at Brussels Airport decreased by 11% compared to November 2022, reaching 57.280 tonnes. Airborne cargo volumes decreased by 8%, reaching 47.727 tonnes. The full freighter segment decreased slightly by 1%, while belly cargo on passenger aircraft increased by 9% thanks to the increased number of passenger flights. Planai is converting its fleet to HVO100 diesel replacement

The Planai-Hochwurzen cable cars have announced that the equipment used to prepare the ski slopes and the company's own vehicles, which are powered by diesel fuel, have been converted to HVO100. This is a synthetically produced diesel substitute fuel that, according to the manufacturer, is more environmentally friendly. "Last winter, we used two identical models in our piste grooming fleet for testing purposes. One was powered by conventional diesel, one by palm oil-free HVO100 fuel. The results were sensational: emissions such as CO2 were reduced by around 90% compared to the use of conventional diesel, without losing any effectiveness," says Planai Managing Director Georg Bliem. This statement is supported by a study by Thomas Klein Consulting GmbH, which scientifically accompanied this endurance test on the Planai.
