Top 3 Ryanair destinations: Germans and Austrians with different travel habits

In 2023, the low-cost airline Ryanair had the most passengers from the Austrian airports in its route network to London-Stansted, Palma de Mallorca and Milan (Malpensa and Bergamo cumulatively). A direct comparison with Germany shows deviations. According to its own information, the low-cost airline operated around one million flights across its entire route network in 2023, which is drawing to a close. This consists of around 230 destinations located in 37 countries. From Austria, the routes to/from London-Stansted, Palma de Mallorca and Milan were particularly strong. In the latter metropolis, the carrier flies to both Malpensa and Bergamo from Vienna. The direct comparison with the most popular destinations from Germany according to Ryanair is interesting. In 2023, the low-cost airline had a particularly high number of passengers on the routes to/from Palma de Mallorca. This is hardly surprising, as the Balearic island is considered a popular holiday destination for Germans. In second place is the destination London-Stansted. Milan, on the other hand, is not among the top three. The third place on the podium after Germany is taken by the Irish capital Dublin, which is also the home base of Ryanair DAC. Thus, the travel preferences of Germans and Austrians in 3 - at least for the low-cost airline Ryanair - differ slightly.

OE-LZR: Fifth AUA-A320neo arrived in Vienna

On Friday, December 29, 2023, the fifth Airbus A320neo arrived at Austrian Airlines' home base in Vienna-Schwechat. The medium-haul jet with the registration OE-LZR landed at 11:46 a.m. and shortly afterwards went into the hangar. The aircraft does not yet have the usual Austrian Airlines livery, but appears completely in white. According to the carrier's statement, this will remain the case in the short term, as the aircraft will fly in white until it is completely painted. The aircraft, which was taken over from the Toulouse factory, will be put into scheduled service in the next few weeks. However, a specific date has not yet been set. The "Thayatal" is the fifth Airbus A320neo in the fleet of the Austrian Lufthansa subsidiary. Four identical aircraft were already taken over between August 2022 and July 2023. These are currently the youngest members of the fleet. AUA is also expected to receive the first Boeing 787-9 next year. However, these are not brand new aircraft, but jets that are being taken over second-hand from the parent company Lufthansa. Austrian Airlines has already confirmed that the originally communicated schedule cannot be met. The reason for this is delivery delays at Boeing. This means that the crane airline needs the aircraft for longer than initially expected. The exact impact on AUA's long-haul service is still unclear, but it is already foreseeable that the Boeing 767/777s due to be phased out will remain in service a little longer than planned. The fleet changeover is to take place step by step. "The arrival of our fifth A320neo is a nice end to the year for Austrian Airlines and a gift for our passengers who
